Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train-Chapter 52 - 48: Inventorying the Spoils
Chapter 52: Chapter 48: Inventorying the Spoils
Clang, clang.
A standard railway crosses the mountain range for thousands of miles to the east, and this is the first time "Infinity" has traveled from night to dawn since departing from Jiang City.
15:47, dawn arrived earlier than expected.
Chen Sixuan had been guarding the train all night without rest, and now together with Lou Shasha and Lou Ye, they took advantage of the daylight to tally up the supplies collected the previous night.
Lin Xian drank a big bottle of water in the cockpit, feeling much more energetic, and fortunately, aside from smashing some wandering zombies, the night’s journey hadn’t caused any trouble for the train’s progress.
"Thank goodness the Mechanical Heart was upgraded, otherwise it would really be tough to drag all these carriages."
Due to the increased load, the storage energy of the electric locomotive decreased in efficiency, and combined with Lin Xian’s superpower energy, he had to stop and rest after running for three or four hours.
"The energy issue really needs to be taken seriously..."
According to his plan, in addition to the electric locomotive storing energy through superpower, there needed to be a backup energy generation system, like generators or oil tanks, in order to ensure the train could keep running when he was out of energy.
According to the law of conservation of energy, increased load meant increased consumption; only with a small nuclear power unit and his upgraded superpower joining the energy cycle could this rule be broken, theoretically enabling infinite travel.
"Brother Lin!"
Lou Shasha excitedly called from a distant carriage to Lin Xian, "You have to come see this!"
The train had stopped, and just as Lin Xian was about to get off for some fresh air, he heard the call and walked over. The rear platform of carriage 5 was open, and the grassy slope beside the railway track was covered with all kinds of supplies, many of which were still stained with blood from the hasty collection the previous night.
"Lin Xian, look, so much."
Chen Sixuan wiped the sweat off her forehead happily. She took a few towels and, as there was a stream not far from the railway, she started washing and tallying them.
KIKI jumped down from the train, took Chen Sixuan’s inventory sheet, and her eyes immediately lit up.
"Three Colts, two Glock 17s, twelve various models of automatic rifles, and one A33K sniper rifle, and so much ammunition..."
"And this!" Sha Sha found their M36 grenade launcher among the spoils, exclaiming loudly, "This thing is really powerful."
Lin Xian breathed a sigh of relief, looking at the pile of spoils and smiling faintly, "Now we don’t need to use knives to hack through the big bugs."
"By the way, there’s something unexpected."
With a giggle, KIKI climbed onto the armored transporter carriage, opened the driver’s door, and took out a remote controller, activating a switch.
Woo~
At that moment, the drone pod on top of the armored vehicle opened, and two small rotor drones slowly ascended.
"With this thing, we can patrol a 10 km radius around us without getting off."
"This Qian Yu from the Black Serpent Team is pretty impressive," Lin Xian said in amazement, "His equipment must be worth a lot."
"But it’s a pity his heavy truck and tanker were driven away..." Lou Shasha said regretfully.
"Besides, from Tang Hai’s two cargo carriages, we collected over four hundred cans, 41 boxes of water, even six boxes of cola and three boxes of red wine; the other perishable food items nearly filled half a container, plus a thousand liters of gasoline!" Chen Sixuan let out a long breath, "This is simply outrageous, what we’ve found in other survivors’ vehicles doesn’t even come close to a tenth of what’s in these two carriages."
"Of course."
Lin Xian’s expression became serious. "That old guy Tang Hai has hoarded an air raid shelter and has robbed who knows how many survivors. All his wealth is right here, definitely not missing much."
What he didn’t expect was that after plotting for so long, Lin Xian ended up benefitting from his efforts.
With so many supplies, it was enough for 20 people to live for more than three months, and there were only five people on Lin Xian’s side, so they were abundantly rich.
At least it relieved them from the pressures of food and water for the foreseeable future.
"There’s one more ..."
Chen Sixuan pointed oddly towards the end of the train, aside from those four cars, she noticed the last flatcar which Lin Xian had overlooked. It was only when Chen Sixuan mentioned it that he noticed that the three-meter-tall ’Iron Guard 3’ military assault armor and the heavy TFV600 twin-tube tank had somehow also been loaded onto the train, placed at the very end after the last two flatcars.
Lin Xian was startled. "When did you get this loaded on? Using a crane?"
This clearly seemed unlikely since the small crane was electrically powered, unusable by anyone but Lin Xian. Besides, how could that small crane possibly lift tanks and armor that weighed dozens of tons?
"Hmph~"
At that moment, a smug hum sounded. KIKI, with her arms crossed, jumped down from the train and, lifting her little face, said,
"Of course, I was the one who loaded them up for you. These things are so heavy, it took quite a bit of effort."
Lin Xian was thrilled. He had been worrying about it, thinking even if it couldn’t be repaired, using it for salvage was a good choice; yet, here KIKI had already used her superpower to load it up for him.
It seemed his decision to let the young lady rest early last night was right; she came in useful at the critical moment.
"You have sharp eyes, today you get a reward: canned meat."
"Who cares about your canned meat," KIKI said proudly. "You... just help me fix that radar system and those computers today, oh and the heating, it was terribly cold last night..."
"Cold?"
Lin Xian glanced at Chen Sixuan. He had enjoyed the warmth of a cozy nest last night and hadn’t noticed the severe cold outside.
Chen Sixuan’s face turned red, and she quickly averted her gaze, stammering, "Yes, it’s a few degrees below zero even during the day now."
As if in response, during their conversation, a bleak and dry cold wind blew past, making everyone shiver involuntarily.
The weather was getting colder, and snowstorms were approaching. The low temperature posed a severe challenge for the survivors.
KIKI and Chen Sixuan found some fitting clothes from the luggage they had gathered, while Lin Xian and Lou Ye, perhaps due to their bodies being enhanced by their superpowers, didn’t feel as cold.
"Speaking of which, where’s Building?"
Due to Lou Ye’s physique, everyone unanimously agreed to nickname him ’Building’.
"Brother Xian." Just as they were talking, Lou Ye stood up from a distant pile of supplies, in front of which he was fixing a motorcycle - the very one belonging to Lin Xian.
"Hey, didn’t I tell you," KIKI said whimsically to Building. "When it comes to fixing things, he’s better."
Building scratched his head naively, clutching a wrench in his hand, "This... I know a little."
"Really?"
Hearing that Building knew a bit about machinery, Lin Xian nodded, smiling, "Since we’re all family here, I’ll speak frankly."
Then, he turned and pulled out a thick steel plate from carriage number five and threw it on the ground.
With a single wave of his hand, a mysterious light flashed, and the steel plate levitated, swiftly shaping into a standard shield in mid-air before landing on the ground.
The others were immediately astounded.
Chen Sixuan covered her mouth in surprise; this was the first time Lin Xian had displayed his Mechanical Heart ability in front of everyone, other than driving the train...
The siblings, Lou Ye and Lou Shasha, were shocked; Lou Shasha exclaimed, "Wow, Brother Lin, what exactly is your superpower?"
KIKI’s eyes widened as her cheeks puffed while watching the scene. It was clear she hadn’t quite grasped it yet.
She originally thought Lin Xian’s superpower was to drive trains, then found out he could create ice blocks and even fire guns barehanded. But now, seeing him folding a steel plate out of thin air, this ability seemed very similar to hers.
Even though she had perused through all internal documents of the ’Angel Plan’, she now felt she completely didn’t understand.
