Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 168: Train Upgrade Plan 1
"Oh yeah!"
KIKI cheered excitedly, "We're finally upgrading the train!"
Even though Shu Qin’s group knew Lin Xian had a mechanical ability, they were still a bit dumbfounded when they heard him mention upgrading the train.
Lin Xian’s mind stirred slightly. Then, with a lift of his right hand, a glow appeared in his palm. Several materials flew out, converging, shaping, forging, and assembling—
Clang!
A Howler K23 Electric Gatling Gun materialized out of thin air!
Boom! The massive gun landed heavily on the ground in front of Da Lou.
"Da Lou, here's your new toy."
Seeing this incredible scene, everyone in Shu Qin’s convoy was stunned. A Gatling gun of this caliber was a game-changer for any convoy, something only mid-to-large-scale groups could typically afford.
Yet Lin Xian had just summoned one with a wave of his hand! It completely shocked them all.
"Whoa!"
Sha Sha and Lu Xingchen were dumbfounded, eyes wide in disbelief. Da Lou, stunned as well, bent down and picked up the weapon.
It was heavy. The six-barreled muzzle exuded a devastating presence. Coupled with Da Lou’s towering, iron-tower-like physique, he now looked like an unstoppable war god.
"Bro! This is insane!"
"Heh." Da Lou licked his lips, clutching the massive weapon with delight. He turned to Lin Xian and said, "Thanks, Brother Xian!"
"What are you thanking me for?" Lin Xian gestured toward the Infinite Train and said, "Now that we have time, let's properly upgrade our fortress train. We need to equip it with weapons where needed and remodel the carriages where necessary. With so many people aboard, we have to make sure our living conditions are top-notch."
"Hell yeah!" KIKI's face lit up with excitement. "My Carriage No. 2 needs an upgrade too!"
"Captain Lin."
Shu Qin's expression was full of anticipation. "Just say the word, and we'll follow your lead."
Lin Xian nodded. "Gather everything useful from these vehicles, including your own supplies. Have Ms. Chen take inventory of everything."
"Got it, I’ll handle it right away!"
Lin Xian then turned to Lu Xingchen. "Fire God, take a few good hands and set up some sentries at the best vantage points. If you spot zombies or any other threats, take them out immediately."
"No problem." Lu Xingchen grinned smugly. "Leave it to me."
"Da Lou, Sha Sha, you two handle all the weapons and ammunition." Lin Xian pointed to an open area. "Organize our firepower over there."
"Got it, Brother Xian!"
"YES!" Sha Sha was pumped up.
"Everyone else, help me clear out those passenger carriages. KIKI, Ms. Chen, let's rework the train's layout."
"Understood." KIKI and Chen Sixuan responded in unison.
Lin Xian looked at the Infinite Train. Now that he had manpower, time, and a proper workspace, he wasn't going to waste this golden opportunity.
At his command, the entire group sprang into action.
His plan was to first build the combat carriages, reinforce the carriage doors, install elevating platforms, and equip the train with an external electric blade defense system, a sentry system, and 1130 CIWS (Close-In Weapon System).
Inside Carriage No. 2, Lin Xian, KIKI, and Chen Sixuan were huddled around a computer, studying the train’s layout.
"The Whale 03E Heavy Gas Turbine Locomotive stays as the lead engine, and the Gemini 11R Nuclear Electric Locomotive remains the rear engine. Those won’t change," KIKI pointed at a rough 3D model of the train on the screen. "But we do have two major issues to address."
She tapped the screen. "First, we need to link the nuclear locomotive’s control system to my station. That way, I can monitor the entire train’s operations. We'll also integrate the sentry and radar systems with the train’s water, air, heating, electricity, and communication systems. Once that’s done— ta-da! Infinite Train will be a smart train!"
"And the second issue?"
"Firepower, obviously!" KIKI smirked, pointing to the last carriage. "With five additional carriages, we’ll have twelve in total. In a crisis, we can’t afford to run back and forth with just walkie-talkies. Plus, the nuclear locomotive must be well protected. That’s why I think Carriage No. 12 should be converted into a weapons station. The 1130 CIWS you’re planning should go there."
Lin Xian nodded. KIKI's idea aligned perfectly with his own. "That was my plan too. If we keep adding people, our nuclear-powered carriage should remain sealed unless necessary. Converting Carriage No. 12 into a defense carriage will help protect the power system."
"Should we add extra defenses, like Dragon Mountain No. 1?" Chen Sixuan suggested. "I observed its layout last night—their firepower and anti-air defenses are evenly distributed along the entire train, covering all angles."

"Hmm, good point. Let's do that." Lin Xian agreed. "Carriage No. 5 will be our flexible defense unit, with a retractable Gatling gun on the roof and an access point for defenders. Da Lou and Lu Xingchen can hold the midsection."
"Wait, what?" KIKI’s eyes widened. "I thought you were making another 1130 CIWS?"
Lin Xian gave her a deadpan look. "You think I'm some kind of walking arms factory? Even making one of those might burn through all the repair bay’s materials. And you want two?"
KIKI stuck out her tongue, sneaking a glance at him. "You’re really that low on stock?"
Lin Xian: "..."
Why did that sound so weird?
"By the way." KIKI pointed to the train’s roof. "Didn't you promise to weaponize Carriage No. 2 as well?"
"I was planning to." Lin Xian nodded. "I’m going to install a G3 Electromagnetic Rail Cannon and a bulletproof gunnery bay on the front section."
"Whoa, seriously?!" KIKI’s eyes lit up, and she almost jumped out of her chair—until her face suddenly changed. She narrowed her eyes at Lin Xian.
"Wait... there’s a ‘but,’ isn’t there?"
Lin Xian grinned. "But..."
"As always, I can only set up the bulletproof gunnery bay for now. The rail cannon will have to wait—it requires rare materials, and I don't have enough high-grade resources yet."
Even with the Manufacturing Center, high-tier materials were still a major bottleneck. Low-grade materials could be converted, but the process was inefficient and slow. It would take a while to gather everything needed for the electromagnetic rail cannon.
"Also," Lin Xian shrugged, "mounting the rail cannon on Carriage No. 2 will eat into your living space. This thing is massive, and for safety reasons, it’ll need a built-in retractable platform along with a high-energy capacitor module. That’ll take up a lot of room."
"So what?"
KIKI leaned back in her chair, completely unfazed. "Sha Sha and I just sleep in a bunk bed. This carriage is mostly empty anyway. Each car is nearly 30 meters long—we don’t need all that space."
She shot Lin Xian a playful glare. "Not everyone is like you two, always ‘tinkering’ with stuff."
Chen Sixuan wasn’t expecting KIKI to blurt out something so random and immediately turned red. "What are you even saying?! We’re talking about serious matters here..."
Lin Xian chuckled helplessly. "Alright then, I’ll install everything in Carriage No. 2—server hub, drone control, sentry system, and nuclear locomotive monitoring. Happy now?"
