Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 230: Biochemical Research Layer
"Can you access the surveillance system here and see what's happening below?"
"I'll try."
KIKI quickly operated on her mobile terminal, and soon, the online surveillance system for the building appeared on the screen.
"Levels 11 and 12 are already offline." KIKI continuously switched between public area camera feeds. "There’s definitely flooding down below."
"What about the other floors?" Lin Xian asked.
"Not a single person." KIKI shook her head.
"To be precise, not a single living person. And I don’t see any monsters either."
Lin Xian frowned. "That’s strange… How did these people die?"
"Maybe they came from the lower floors where the cameras can’t reach," Shu Qin crouched to inspect the edge of the elevator and noticed water stains. She immediately stood up and said, "There are two possibilities—either they died before the flooding started, and since the elevator is well-sealed, no water got in. Or… something killed them inside the elevator."
"Check level 7. If it looks safe, we’ll head there first." Lin Xian focused on their objective—finding the necessary equipment. Other supplies were secondary.
"Got it."
KIKI immediately switched to the 7th floor’s feed and began searching. "This research facility is massive, divided into different sectors. The classified research and core areas have separate surveillance systems controlled internally—I can only access the public areas. But..."
As she spoke, her eyes suddenly lit up. "Oh! There’s one! A Comprehensive Life-Support Surgical Pod inside a research lab! Whoa, there’s so much equipment here. They didn’t take any of it when they left~"
Lin Xian stepped forward to take a look, his expression instantly shifting. "As expected."
"In an emergency evacuation, the priority is core research data, high-value assets, mid-value assets, and then general assets," Ding Junyi explained. "A Comprehensive Life-Support Surgical Pod is expensive, but for an organization of this scale, it’s at best a mid-tier asset. Leaving it behind isn’t surprising."
"What about the researchers?" Shu Qin asked, puzzled.
Ding Junyi adjusted her glasses and said coolly, "Except for a few top-tier supervisors who qualify as high-value assets, the rest are considered mid-tier or lower. In fact, some biological research specimens rank higher in the evacuation order than the researchers themselves."
"Alright, let’s not dwell on this." Lin Xian pulled out his Black Rifle and addressed the group. "Before the water rises any further, let’s get to the 7th floor and see if we can secure that medical pod. After that, we’ll check for other supplies."
He pressed the elevator button, and the five of them descended underground.
When the elevator doors opened on the 7th floor, a sharp, overwhelming scent of disinfectant filled the air—far stronger than any hospital.
Lin Xian frowned as he and the others cautiously stepped out, scanning their surroundings. The space was massive, divided into multiple sectors.
"Gene Research Area, Tissue Regeneration Engineering, Cell Cultivation, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry… This place is even bigger than the Biological Research Facility in Underground City No. 9." Lin Xian muttered.
Whoosh!
A gust of air rushed through the corridors, followed by a faint tremor in the ground. Loose research documents scattered everywhere, fluttering into the air.
Ding Junyi reached out, caught one, and adjusted her glasses as she read it. "This research facility's work on Dark Entities is far more advanced than the Federation’s. The data here is immense, but something about it confuses me…"
Lin Xian walked over and grabbed her arm, pulling her forward. "The water is rising below. We can analyze later. First, we find that Comprehensive Life-Support Surgical Pod."
"Got it~"
They moved quickly through the facility. Along the way, they passed various sealed research labs—some even reinforced with lead-lined radiation-proof doors, making the atmosphere even more unsettling.
As they ventured deeper, their expressions darkened.
Now, they were encountering large-scale biochemical research chambers. Behind reinforced transparent observation windows, grotesque human body parts, Human Eeries, Zombies, and unidentifiable biological specimens were suspended in preservation tanks.
The pristine, sterile labs starkly contrasted with the grotesque experiments they contained, creating a disturbing visual clash.
"It looks like those conjoined aberrations we encountered in Clearwater Town were created here," Lin Xian remarked grimly.
Ding Junyi, however, appeared intrigued. She carefully examined the specimens, her expression growing more serious. "When I worked for the Federation, Dark Entity research was still in its infancy. The kind of human mutation engineering and limb fusion experiments I’m seeing here… were considered impossible."
They turned into another biological research sector, stopping in front of a heavily secured lab. Through the reinforced glass, they could see a large, white medical pod in the center—resembling some kind of cryostasis chamber.
It was much bigger than Lin Xian had expected. Just at a glance, he estimated it weighed over a ton.
"This is it."
A wave of excitement flashed across Lin Xian’s face. He hadn't expected things to go this smoothly.
Ever since Hua Xiaoling brought him to an underground research facility, he had suspected the Foundation might possess such technology. He had planned to scan a blueprint for it and manufacture one himself on the train.
But after witnessing the Death Game Incident, he realized this Foundation was an insane organization. There was no chance he’d get close to such equipment—until now.
Hiss—
KIKI swiftly bypassed the lab's security using her terminal, and the door locks disengaged. Lin Xian rushed inside and immediately activated his Mechanical Heart to begin scanning the medical pod.
Only by scanning it could he fully understand its systems. If the device was in good condition, he could dismantle and transport it back to the train. With Daluo and KIKI, moving it wouldn’t be a problem. This would save him the trouble of building one from scratch.
"I need about 30 minutes," Lin Xian said, looking at the others. "Search the surrounding areas, but be careful—there might be Eerie Entities lurking around."
"Got it."
KIKI clapped her hands. "Hey, there’s a lot of valuable stuff here. If we can’t take it all, you could devour it, right?"
Lin Xian nodded. "That’s the plan—if we don’t run into trouble. With lake water flooding in, we need to grab whatever we can without compromising safety."
"Then we should check the other floors too." KIKI frowned at her terminal. "Look—level 5 has an armory, and level 9, where we were before, seems to be the core research hub. With such a huge facility, there’s bound to be more useful stuff."
Lin Xian knew KIKI had been fixated on getting a mecha.
He turned to Shu Qin and Daluo, saying, "Alright, the three of you head to level 9. Ding Junyi stays here. We won’t split up too much. If this Comprehensive Life-Support Surgical Pod checks out, we take it and leave—no distractions."
"You’re being overly cautious." KIKI smirked. "I checked the feeds—there’s no sign of any monsters. If there are any, they’re probably in the flooded lower levels."
Lin Xian shot her a glare. "Just go. Less talking, more caution."
He had a clear strategy now—secure priority targets first, then consider secondary objectives. Exploring unknown areas too greedily often led to disaster.
The Comprehensive Life-Support Surgical Pod was something he had wanted for a long time. Until now, they had relied on bandages for every injury. Luckily, aside from KIKI’s incident, no one in their team had suffered life-threatening wounds.
But it remained a major concern.
Injuries, combined with Dark Invasion risks, severely impacted a convoy’s mobility and treatment capacity.
If they secured this medical pod, it would significantly ease the burden on Chen Laoshi and Miao Lu—no more rushing around with bandages.
"Alright, you be careful too~"
Lin Xian nodded as the three prepared to leave but suddenly called out to Daluo.
"Daluo."
"Yeah? What’s up, Xian-ge?"

"Level 9 should have Hua Xiaoling’s office. Check if she left any tea—bring some back for Huo-ge."
"Oh, got it."
As they left, Lin Xian focused back on scanning.
[Scanning Target… Progress: 15%]
Ding Junyi, meanwhile, was completely absorbed in collecting research documents.
Just then, KIKI’s voice burst through the communicator—her tone urgent and excited.
"Lin Xian! Hurry! Come to level 9—NOW!"
"We found something incredible!"
