Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 124 Silver
Ling Xuan did not say anything at first. She stood there quietly, looking at the saffron that had just bloomed in front of her. The purple petals were fresh and open, the red threads bright and delicate.
Then her eyes moved to Laurel.
Laurel was still standing straight, but there was something off. Her shoulders were slightly tense, and her face looked a little pale. She was pretending nothing happened, but it was obvious she wasn’t okay.
"You look like you’re about to pass out," Ling Xuan said calmly.
Laurel immediately straightened a bit more, almost out of instinct. "I’m fine."
Ling Xuan’s gaze dropped briefly to Laurel’s hand, which was still resting near her chest like she was steadying her breathing. She did not point it out, but her gaze moved up to Laurel’s face.
"You don’t look fine." Not that she cared, she only wanted to know how to control her own powers. Seeing Laurel effortlessly growing a plant and aiding its life span, Ling Xuan thought of doing the same to see what her powers were really about.
But she quickly buried the thought knowing it would only cause the plant to die.
Laurel exhaled slowly and walked past her toward the hall. Her steps were firm, but not as light as usual.
"It’s the same as before," she said as she lowered herself onto the couch. She leaned back and closed her eyes for a second. "If I use it to grow plants or heal, I take the hit."
"Okay, whatever you say," Ling Xuan replied. Her fingers tightened behind her back... does that mean she was also going to suffer a backlash whenever she used her powers?
Laurel opened one eye. "I wasn’t being reckless. I just wanted to see where the limit is."
"I said okay."
Laurel did not argue even though she could hear the disagreement in Ling Xuan’s tone. The sharp pain from earlier was still faintly there, like a reminder.
Silence settled for a few seconds. Then a familiar shimmer appeared in front of them.
Then the system’s screen unfolded in the air.
[Mission 010]
Laurel let out a quiet sigh. "Of course."
[Harvest all mature crops in the external field within three days.]
[Reward: 10,000 coins]
[Farming EXP: +50]
Laurel sat up properly this time. "Three days?" She wasn’t surprised as that was the usual duration the system normally gave them to complete missions.
Furthermore, three days from now the red mist would start disappearing from the earth. In her past life, the red mist disappeared seven days after it arrived, and that was when people started scavenging and moving around in search of a better place and safety.
The infected also evolved after the red mist became too much of a problem as they could easily turn people into infected.
The meteor shower came before the normal time and the red mist also came three days before... Laurel wondered if the red mist would also disappear before the normal timeline.
"That is enough time," Laurel muttered under her breath.
Ling Xuan who had been watching her expression finally spoke. "What are you thinking?" She asked.
"The bloody mist will start disappearing, I think that will be the best time for us to search for the Snow Lotus," Laurel said, staring at Ling Xuan.
"As long as the mist clears out, I don’t have a problem with that plan." Ling Xuan replied.
Silence stretched between them as both of them got lost in their thoughts.
Ling Xuan snapped out of her daze and turned slightly.
"System."
A system appeared before her.
[Yes, Host.]
"I’d like to trade." Ling Xuan said, her eyes appearing colder than they usually were.
The system responded by projecting several item windows in layered rows, each displaying unfamiliar materials, strange inscriptions, and price tags that ranged from coins to items that did not exist in their current dimension.
Laurel rose slowly from the couch and walked closer, her earlier weakness forgotten beneath her newfound curiosity.
Ling Xuan scanned without emotion until her gaze stopped on a particular armour.
The armor that caught her attention did not look heroic, nor did it carry any exaggerated aura of power; its surface was scratched and darkened by age, the metal edges worn from repeated impact, and the chest plate bore faint engravings that had long since lost their original clarity.
Ling Xuan could not explain the feeling but she felt drawn to it, as if... it was familiar.
"The price?" Ling Xuan said.
[Trader request:
Seasonings: {10000g of salt}
{8000g of pepper} 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
{5000g of sugar}
{2000g of curry and thyme}
{10000g of seasoning Maggi}
Laurel blinked in surprise. "Seasonings?" She knew these were considered more valuable than gold. And one would think it was completely cheap but these were golds and the trader was demanding this much? For a worn-out armour?
"Salt, Pepper, Sugar," Ling Xuan repeated after reading. "That’s absurdly cheap." Ling Xuan muttered under breath.
The system provided further detail.
[Armour Origin: From a Legendary warrior from another dimension. Lost in battle but long for its master.
Name: Silver]
[Condition: Moderately damaged.]
[Repairable by dimensional engineers.]
Laurel folded her arms as she studied it more carefully, and though it looked unimpressive at first glance, the structure beneath the damage was dense and layered, forged from something that did not resemble ordinary steel.
"It doesn’t look reliable," Laurel said honestly.
"It doesn’t need to look impressive," Ling Xuan replied. "It needs to stop a blade."
Laurel glanced at her. "You don’t even know if it still functions at its original capacity."
"I don’t need original capacity...I know it will be good enough." She replied curtly.
Laurel stepped closer and observed the thickness of the plating and the way the joints were designed to move without exposing gaps; whoever had worn it before had survived long enough for the metal to wear down, or maybe passed from one person to another that the armour could no longer handle it.
"We have enough seasonings, right?" Laurel asked.
"Enough to trade without compromising the supplies."
Laurel hesitated only briefly before nodding.
"Fine, we will take it."
Ling Xuan confirmed the trade without hesitation. "Make the purchase." She said to the system.
[Trading in progress...]
[Trading completed.]
The armor materialized onto the polished floor of the space house with a low metallic resonance.
Ling Xuan crouched and lifted the chest plate, testing its weight, and strangely it was as light as a feather.
Laurel extended her hand and touched the surface, feeling the cold density beneath her fingers.
