Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 156 Cheers to Us
Benjamin snapped out of his daze as his breathing turned uneven, his chest rising and falling rapidly while the memories of that night clung tightly to his mind, refusing to let go, and for a moment he simply stared ahead as if he could still see the swarm of infected rushing toward him, the screams of his teammates echoing in his ears as his fingers curled slightly against the bed.
His head turned sharply toward Camile, his expression twisting as anger quickly replaced the fear in his eyes. "Untie me," he said, his voice low at first but laced with tension that was ready to snap at any moment. "Untie me right now."
Camile did not move, she remained in her spot with a calm expression.
Benjamin’s breathing grew heavier as the restraints around his wrists and legs suddenly felt tighter than before, his gaze darkening as he glared at her. "If you had opened that gate earlier, they wouldn’t have died," he said, his voice rising now as his emotions spilled over. "Do you hear me?! They would still be alive!"
Camile remained calm, her gaze unflinching as she watched him without interrupting.
"You stood there and waited," Benjamin continued, his voice shaking with anger. "You watched us die, you let them get torn apart, and now you expect me to sit here quietly like nothing happened?"
His fists clenched against the restraints as his body trembled slightly. "This is your fault... everything... this..." he lowered his head slightly, his voice turning hoarse. "This thing inside me... this is your fault too."
For a brief moment, silence filled the room.
Then Camile finally spoke. "If we didn’t take that long," she said softly, her tone calm and almost indifferent, "we wouldn’t have been able to detect something as special as you."
Benjamin froze. ’Something?’
His anger halted abruptly as her words sank in, his body going stiff as a cold chill ran down his spine.
"What... did you just say?" he asked slowly, his voice no longer loud but strained.
’Something? Instead of someone? Am I really a monster? This must be a dream... it must be a dream...’
Camile tilted her head slightly, her lips curving faintly. "You survived something no one else did," she said, her gaze lowering to his body. "That alone makes you valuable."
Benjamin stared at her, his mind struggling to process her words as unease crept into his chest.
Camile turned away from him, her expression returning to its usual calm state. "Get some rest," she said simply.
Benjamin’s eyes widened as she began walking toward the door. "Wait! Explain what you mean!" he shouted, his voice rising again as panic replaced the earlier anger. "Let me see Scott! Where is he? You said he survived, didn’t you?"
Camile did not stop.
"Camile!" Benjamin called out again, his voice echoing through the room as he strained against the restraints. "Let me see him! Let me see Scott!"
But his voice gradually faded as the door closed behind her, cutting him off completely. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
...
Camile walked down the corridor with steady steps before stopping in front of another room, pushing the door open without hesitation as the scent of wine immediately filled the air.
Inside, Mack sat comfortably on a cushioned chair, one leg crossed over the other as he slowly swirled the wine in his glass, his posture relaxed as if the chaos outside had nothing to do with him.
Camile stepped in and closed the door behind her. "Benjamin is awake," she said calmly.
Mack’s lips curved into a tight smile as he lifted his glass slightly. "Is that so," he murmured, his tone carrying faint amusement. "Then this calls for a celebration."
Camile walked further into the room, her heels clicking softly against the floor. "Exactly," she replied, her voice lowering slightly. "With him, we no longer have to fear the great hunt."
Mack’s eyes flickered with interest as he leaned back slightly in his chair.
"His blood..." Camile continued, a faint smile forming on her lips. "Killing monsters will be as easy as crushing ants."
Mack’s fingers tapped lightly against the glass before he spoke again. "What about the other one?"
Camile glanced at him. "Scott?"
Mack nodded.
"He is still in a coma," Camile replied, her tone calm. "But his body has already healed, there are no external injuries left."
Mack’s gaze darkened slightly as he set his glass down. "Wake him up," he said without hesitation. "He is very important."
Camile’s brows lifted slightly.
"If Benjamin is the weapon," Mack continued, his voice steady, "then Scott might be the cure."
Camile’s lips curved faintly as understanding dawned in her eyes. "His body neutralized the virus," she said slowly.
Mack nodded. "Which means we don’t have to fear the infected bites or the mist anymore. With both of them in our hands, we don’t have to fear anything... we will finally get to rule this new world."
Camile let out a soft chuckle, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "You are right. That makes things much easier for us." A mischievous glint flickered through her so fast that Mack missed it.
Mack reached for the bottle beside him, pouring wine into another glass before handing it to her. "You really are my fortune," he said with a faint smile.
Camile accepted the glass, her fingers brushing against his briefly before she lifted it. "Cheers to us." She muttered.
Their glasses touched lightly.
"Cheers to us," Mack replied before raising his glass to his lips.
After they finished drinking, Camile lowered her glass but before she could lower the glass completely, Mack suddenly reached out, pulling her closer without warning as his hand gripped her waist firmly.
Camile’s eyes widened slightly in surprise. "Wha...?"
In the next second, his lips crashed against hers.
Her eyes widened as her heart pounded in her ears. Her fingers tightened firmly around the glass that it almost fractured.
Mack pressed his lips harder against hers, deepening the kiss.
