Chapter 54: Chapter 54 - Particles

Dante traveled through the forest with his cane. He was not at the age where he needed the cane but sometimes, he was exhausted from walking all day.

Right now, the snow was coming so he decided to take shelter inside the cave which he found accidentally by following the bear.

He easily cut the bear’s head and occupied the cave.

He created a fire by using mana and sat there. He closed his eyes and trained his mana manipulation. Right now, his compression was about to reach the desirable rate.

He also had a good idea for the next upgrade. It was mana construct. To get that skill, he needed to study the natural mana a lot.

But he was also focusing on the body enchantment skill.

Dante sighed and stared at the white snow. The surrounding was painted in white as if the world turned into an untrained canvas. He washed as his breath danced near his mouth.

He scooped out the snow and made it into a tiny snowman. Dante smiled as he felt his mood starting to increase under the horrible weather.

He then entered back into the cave and sat down under the hot rock he warned up. He closed his eyes and entered into a deep meditation.

Before using his External eyes of the hunter to the fullest, he consolidated his gain of today. Not a lot happened today.

He met with a bunch of shadow wolves and faced them. Because of his eyes, their speciality, entering into shadow and jumping onto the prey was useless.

But during that battle, he realized a lot about his reaction speed. His eyes saw everything instantly but his body can’t follow that well. He needed to sharpen his instinct a lot to anticipate the attack.

Before he developed his instinct, he needed to read the muscle movement.

In short, he needed to rely on his eyes a lot.

After contemplating his day, he looked down at his eyes and activated his eyes to the fullest.

This time he had learned his lesson and immediately went straight to look into his body enchantment effect.

The mana around him twisted and mixed with the unknown particles in reality, the particle then changed the mana into a new type of energy.

He released his eyes and nodded to no one. He could feel himself improving his mana control, at the current rate, he calculated that he would gain the skill in two or three days.

Dante sighed and rubbed his chin. "Maybe that is how affinity mana was created. By combining with the particle."

He said to himself. Then what were those particles?

Manifestation of reality? As his thought was wandering around, his eyes picked up a lighting speed moving arrow.

It was aiming at his throat.

Dante tilted his head, avoiding the fatal shot.

He grabbed the small axe beside him and blocked another arrow. This time the aim was focused on his chest.

There was no mercy in the surprise attack. Dante furrowed his bows and extended the range of his eyes.

"Found it." He muttered.

There were three humans near him. They covered themselves under the piles of snow. The archer was on the tree, drawing his bow again.

Dante’s expression didn’t change and he used Swift Rush. The archer fired a burning arrow, packed with fire mana. It was used in a way much different from Thomas.

But the power behind the arrow was no joke. If the arrow managed to hit his body, no doubt, his body would explode.

But his movement was fast with the Swift Rush skill.

When he entered the fighting range, he fired a mana bolt at the archer without hesitation.

The archer didn’t react to the mana bolt.

Dante thought that it was strange but after a few seconds, he knew the reason behind that.

As the mana construct formed in the air blocking the mana bolt.

The archer stood up and looked down at Dante. His eyes filled with arrogance. He spat.

"Seems like we got ourselves a warrior." He said to his companion.

The two people emerged from the white snow.

Dante gave a quick scan and nodded. On the left was a huge man similar to Thomas. His muscles packed densely and mana emitted from it was fierce.

The last one was a girl no older than him. Her eyes seemed to remember Dante but he had no such memories of meeting her.

Her mana was controlled, similar to the people he encountered in the castle. He suspected that the girl was a mage and she was the one who blocked the mana bolt.

"Tell me one reason why you all decided to kill me from sight?" Dante asked.

The archer laughed. He laughed as if Dante just told him the funniest joke he had ever heard. He controlled himself and wiped the small tear from the corner of his eyes.

Dante didn’t say the entire time and waited. His expression was calm and ready for the attack.

The archer gathered himself. "You don’t need a reason. What are you?"

Dante remained silent.

The archer sighed. "Fine, I will give you one. You are the unknown to us. Unknown means enemy."

Dante nodded. He didn’t agree with this line of thinking but fair enough.

He looked at the remaining two and asked. "Do you believe the same as him?"

The huge man scowled. "Of course, the best way to deal with the unknown is by killing it. Then, we can test that or check whatever we want."

Dante turned to the mage girl. She was timid, holding her staff tightly.

Seeing her state, the archer gave a threatening glance at her.

She flinched and answered. "I also think the same."

Dante slowly nodded.

For now, the silence was the loudest between them.

Dante closed his eyes and opened. Seeing his eyes, the archer backed away and drew his arrow.

"Attack him." He yelled at the two companions.

Thus, the fight began. For the first time, Dante experienced the battle to the death against the fellow humans.

He didn’t know if he really had the gut to claim life. But he would try.
