Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 544: The History of the Village
After waiting for a few minutes and exchanging more pleasantries, an old man using a walking stick appeared from a distance.
He was walking slowly but one could tell that despite his old age, he still had the vigor of a younger person.
He walked with slow but quite steady steps to the tree where the group of old men and the newcomers were sitting.
Chu Miao and Ye Xuan stood up and bowed to the old man.
This was also due to respect and the fact that he was even older than her grandfather.
"Hello chief."
"Hello elder."
The two of them greeted him at the same time.
"Hello young friends. Please sit down." The chief invited them to sit back down. He then waved at the woman who had brought him over and instructed her to serve them tea.
"What are our friends doing so far out of the city?" The chief asked.
Listening to him and what the other elder had asked earlier, it seemed that they don’t get visitors very often.
"We were passing by from City A to City C over a week ago when we noticed something strange about this village. We wanted to come in and have a look but we were in a hurry to send medicine to a dying person.
Now that our mission has been completed, we decided to pass by here again and check out the village. But we noticed more activity around the village and thought that something had happened, so we came in unannounced.
Sorry about that." Chu Miao took the lead to explain knowing that her boyfriend was useless in this area.
"Oh, so you were just passing by when you noticed the village?" The chief asked as if he was not surprised at all.
"Yes, is there a problem?" Ye Xuan sensed something in the old man’s words and asked.
"It is not easy to notice our village even if you pass by here." The chief replied.
This surprised both Ye Xuan and Chu Miao because the village was so obvious by the road. How was it difficult to find?
Seeing their puzzled expressions, the chief smiled.
"Prepare a feast for our friends. I will explain the details as we eat." He said.
Chu Miao sensed something was amiss and decided to stay. They hoped that the others outside would not think too much and cultivate in peace.
Soon, a table filled with different dishes was prepared.
This was actually a rare sight. Not for Chu Miao and Ye Xuan who had an abundance of food in the Soul Ring but for others experiencing the apocalypse.
There was a chicken that had been slaughtered and made into soup, stir fried vegetables, and rice.
A few middle-aged men joined them and ate with them.
Once they had eaten, the chief finally got to the point.
"Our village is special. You must have noticed this if you decided to come in.
There is an ancient array surrounding it that prevents us from leaving in case of a calamity.
This is a form of protection left behind by our ancestors but it also means that those in the village when it was activated could not leave.
In fact, those passing by outside can’t even locate the village and therefore, cannot come in either." The old chief explained and took a break to sip tea.
However, what he said confused both Chu Miao and Ye Xuan.
Saying that those passing by outside couldn’t find the village felt a little exaggerated. After all, they were already inside, meaning that they not only found the village, they came in too.
The old chief seemed to have read their thoughts and explained.
"The array protecting this village is very old. It is thousands of years old and was built to surround a family.
The Liu family was a middle-tier family in those times and had about a thousand members living in the main branch.
Then, the ancestors of the Liu family heard rumors about a prophecy that said that a calamity would one day befall the world and when that happened, all humans would perish.
The only way was for the chosen savior to take action, then part of the human population could be saved.
Because of their low status, the Liu family didn’t get many details, but they didn’t ignore the prophecy either despite getting sketchy details.
They decided to take advantage of their resources and background in array formations to create a large array that could protect the family if something really happened.
So the array surrounding this village was built. Yes, this village was the main residence of the Liu family, but with the decline of the family over the thousands of years, not many members of the original family are left.
Instead, more people moved here and the once family residence turned into a village.
However, the array remained.
After so many years, however, the Liu family never neglected to tell the story about the prophecy to their descendants.
That’s how I also know about it.
My name is Liu Da, the oldest remaining member of the Liu family." The chief explained, causing Ye Xuan and Chu Miao to look at each other.
The prophecy he talked about should be the same prophecy that brought Chu Yue to the modern world.
"So, you activated the array when the apocalypse started?" Chu Miao asked.
She was impatient for more details.
"No, it looks like the ancestors got some more details about the calamity than they talked about.
When people started having mass fever that night, without a warning, the array activated. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Since then, no one could come in or leave. The prophecy said that the only person who could come in through that array or even find the family residence was the chosen one.
That’s why I was surprised when you just happened to be passing by and found the village entrance." The chief explained further, which also cleared Chu Miao’s doubts.
