Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 64: Remember: Rationalize.
Chapter 64: Remember: Rationalize.
Many hands were raised. Those with questions were very many. Lisha Quinn stepped up and waved at the crowd, smiling like a diplomat. "Hello everyone, I am Lisha Quinn, and I am in charge of media and communications in the fortress." She spoke to them in that honey coated fake sweet voice presidential press secretaries tended to use just before they told reporters that the president would not be taking questions. "So, why don’t we make this brief."
Major Elio leaned towards Commander Grayson. "Does she remind you of anyone?"
"Every secretary of every powerful man, smiling sweetly just before they give you the middle finger from their boss." Commander Grayson replied.
"So, whose questions are related to mutant animals?" Lisha asked. "Others lower your hands and let those ones remain."
Eleven hands remained raised.
Lisha pointed to a boy. "We will only be taking his question."
Disgruntled voices rose in the crowd.
"What are mutant monsters?" The boy asked.
"Please visit the library for all this information." Lisha replied. "Tell mommy and daddy to take you there, okay sweetie..." She leaned her face forward, smiling more than necessary.
Lisha looked at the crowd and the tone of her voice changed to that of a law professional, "The same goes for everyone whose question is related to monsters, mist, super humans, signals and the wall."
A woman interrupted. "For how long do you think that the supplies we have now will take us? A year?" She asked, fear clocking in.
"I say we don’t allow others into the base, especially those that come after the apocalypse has started. I mean they do not believe that it’s happening anyway." A short bald young man said his thoughts.
Noise picked up, everyone was just shouting their questions and suggestions. Lisha’s phone was being flooded with messages from the information centers: questions of those that were watching from the second and first wall.
Hades patted Sunshine’s back. "It’s late. We should send them away and have dinner. Also, Ariel says that Earl wants to brush his teeth with the pink candy gel."
"Let’s take one more question and ask them to disperse." She replied and picked up the megaphone. "Just one more question." She accidentally pointed at Major Elio and winced.
"You mentioned gear for going into the mist. Is it available?" He wanted to know this because he thought that it was such a shame so many soldiers were dying daily under Secretary Ceasar’s orders to go into the mist and find out what was inside. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
If there was gear, Major Elio was willing to lead a team into the mist and find answers. Not for Ceasar, but for the soldiers and their families.
"There is some gear, but it is still in the testing phase. When we confirm that it works, we will provide it for those that wish to venture into the mist." Sunshine shared.
Hades leaned towards Sunshine and said into the megaphone, "Remember, rationalize your food. Do not eat as if it is thanksgiving. Repurpose your water. What you use to wash clothes can mop a floor or wash them again tomorrow. Water used to wash vegetables can be used to take a bath or wash clothes.
As for the waste, we provide a special powder named Xetrium 9. Just sprinkle some when you have finished doing your business, liquid or solid and it will take care of the rest. You will notice that most of your toilets do not have flashing capabilities, and this is the reason why.
Remember to use only a pinch per cycle, make sure the window is open. Do not mix it with liquid because it will smell worse than sweaty socks stuck in a gym bag for a month."
Sunshine turned the megaphone her way again. "One last thing, fitness is a must, not an option. We will have a boot camp to get everyone in shape and healthy especially the young, old and the out of shape." She motioned at Hades to continue with his talk amidst reluctant protests.
"Just say fat." Major Elio muttered.
The civilians especially where not comfortable with this arrangement. Why did it have to be compulsory?
"We are heading into dangerous times, those who cannot fight should at least be able to run. Do not become lax and assume that you are safe because we are living behind walls. There are creatures that can break walls, fly over them and so forth. This is not a request people, we are all getting fit." Sunshine doubled down.
"So, what is the plan for the meteor shower?" Someone bellowed. "Do we take cover? Is the protective bubble shield really safe? Many may not show it, but we are terrified."
Sunshine pointed up, prompting everyone to do the same. The bubbled had formed a dome around them and they could see drops of rain falling on it and sliding to the sides. "Trust the bubble, it was built to protect against meteor showers. If you are worried, use the gel that was distributed to coat the surfaces around you every after six hours.
For those that are scared there is an underground bunker in each wall area where you can hide. But the bunkers will not fit everyone so they can be saved for children and the elderly."
"No women!" Major Elio exclaimed loudly. He was in shock as it was always, women, children and the elderly being lumped together as a protected class. What had happened to the women?
"Women too." Sunshine added.
Major Elio squeezed his wife’s hand, relieved that she would be safe. He did not believe in the strength of the bubble just yet. For him, seeing would be believing.
Tension equally drained from some shoulders of some people but coiled up in others.
Lisha waved at the crowd again, smiling widely as if tape was pulling on the corners of her lips. "Thank you everyone for attending this meeting and all your questions. It is rather late, and dinner is ready for those that plan to eat what the base kitchen has cooked." She raised her hand halfway and folded her fist. Her voice became even more sugary and high pitched. "Remember, the squirrel that saves, survives the winter."
"Oh my God! Why is she smiling like that?" Major Elio mumbled.
Commander Grayson laughed.

Outside Fortress Four, the country was quickly diving into more chaos as Pastor Salem had just predicted the meteorite shower which would be devastating and come with a deadly mist.
In some places, people were looting stores. It did not matter what kind. Whether it was televisions, laptops, chemicals, designer clothes shoes and bags, people did not care. Power had been cut off in some areas and curfews had been set in problematic cities.
President Finch was proving to be useless, and Secretary Ceasar was already taking command. He firmly had the military in hand. He was just about to declare some major no-fly zones. The only public flights allowed over the country’s airspace were for returnees, not those looking to escape.
Unlike others that were running away, hiding their families or sitting on pins and needles, Secretary Ceasar was more excited. More mist meant more answers.
He had seen the brochure on how to survive an apocalypse and put one and two together. Carson Warnock had gone into the mist and come out a superhuman.
For the secretary, more mist meant more opportunities. If Carson could become a superhuman, why not him?
