Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 297: Camel Tower Situation
Once everyone had left, Elena then turned to Ethan with a questioning gaze, clearly asking why he had interrupted their happy conversation.
But Ethan had already foreseen his wife’s reaction, so he quickly diverted her attention.
"Look, Leo is starting to wake up. It’s too noisy inside—the babies are getting uncomfortable."
As always, it worked. Elena immediately focused on soothing Leo, gently lulling him back to sleep—and completely forgetting about her husband in the process.
"Sleep, Leo. It’s not time to wake up yet, baby," she murmured softly, pressing gentle kisses to his chubby cheeks again and again.
Not long after, Baby Leo drifted back to sleep. Elena then carefully placed him into the bed, tucking him in together with his younger brothers.
Only then did she turn back to Ethan, her expression growing serious once more.
"So, what exactly happened to Building C?" she asked. "Everyone keeps saying that area has changed."
"I think you should see it for yourself," Ethan replied, handing her a telescope.
Some things, after all, were better seen with one’s own eyes.
The moment Elena looked through the window, she froze. Around Building C, plants and trees were blooming wildly, lush and brimming with vitality despite the extreme heat.
She had thought everyone was exaggerating—but there it was, a pocket of green life standing against the harsh environment.
Even in her past life, no one was capable of doing such a feat instantly.
"Th-this... you never said the youngest created a mini-forest?"
"Haven’t I?" Ethan replied, hugging her and chuckling softly.
"Be serious. This isn’t something to laugh about."
"Alright, alright. Don’t be angry," he said, his tone turning solemn.
"I was shocked too. The plants and trees sprouted out of nowhere right before my eyes after the eclipse. The strange part is that it only happened around Building C, so it was definitely something we caused."
Elena frowned, worry flashing in her eyes as she thought of Baby Max. "This kind of phenomenon is different. It can be traced back to us."
"Don’t worry. It’s already been dealt with," Ethan reassured her. "Aside from Brother Elias, no one knows it’s connected to us—or rather, to our youngest."
"What do you mean?"
"Well... there’s a rumor spreading everywhere," Ethan explained calmly.
"People believe a deity descended to save humanity, and that the sudden growth of plants and trees was its work. With abilities awakening one after another, it only strengthened their belief that this ’deity’ granted everyone power to survive."
Elena frowned even deeper. "That’s absurd. Don’t tell me a cult is starting to form."
"In some areas, yes," Ethan admitted. "That’s what the reports say. Should we intervene?"
"Let the military handle it," Elena replied after a moment. "Just make sure they’re reminded."
Saving the world was no longer her goal. Perhaps in her past life, she had harbored such ambitions—but now, all she wanted was for her small family and her people to live well.
She had already done her part once. This time, she wanted peace, to watch her babies grow in safety.
So, let the military take the lead. She would support them quietly, from behind the scenes.
"Okay. I’ll give them some hints," Ethan said. "But I’ll still assign our people to monitor the situation, just to make sure this newly formed cult doesn’t repeat the same action from the past."
"That’s a given," Elena replied.
Then her thoughts returned to the children. "More importantly, we must make sure no one finds out about the kids’ abilities."
"You’ve already said that—probably five times now," Ethan said with a helpless smile. "But don’t worry, wife. I swear no one will ever know."
He paused, then continued, with clear amazement in his eyes.
"Still, Baby Max’s ability... with the help of the Golden Tablet, was truly terrifying. He turned a desolated area into something full of life. That kind of power is incredible. If he grows strong enough, he could transform wastelands into places where people can actually live."
"That’s exactly why I’m worried," Elena said quietly.
"Their abilities are too powerful to be a coincidence, Ethan. I’m afraid they might play a bigger role in this new cycle.... Sighed, as a mother, all I want is for them to grow up happy."
Nothing in this world was ever free. Her rebirth might have been carried out through the help of ancient space—but was it truly without cost? 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Her instincts as a mother—and everything she had already witnessed—told her that there was far more at play than anything she had known in her past life.
She could only hope that it wouldn’t be her children who would have to bear that burden.
Unbeknownst to her, in every cycle, the world was given a chance to resist invasion.
Abilities were granted to a few beings to defend their planet, and among them was a unique power capable of reviving a dying world.
In the past, that hope had been the two-year-old boy with an absorption ability. But he died before he could even grow up, cutting off humanity’s chance to fight back.
The cruelest part was that heaven never explained anything. At most, it left vague hints—never enough to be understood.
And so, five hundred years later, the world became barren, and the alien invasion ended in total victory.
"If that’s really the case," Ethan said firmly, pulling Elena into his arms, "then I promise you this: our sons will grow up safely by our side. We’ll guide them, protect them, and when they’re old enough, we’ll let them choose their own path."
He looked at her seriously. "So don’t overthink it. Stressing over their future isn’t good for you."
Even though he was worried for his sons as well, he couldn’t help but snort inwardly.
They haven’t even grown up yet, and they’re already making their mother worry about their future.
Elena took a slow breath, then nodded. Luckily, she had a good husband by her side.
She then turned her attention back to the chaos outside. Beyond the unrecognizable Building C, countless mutated animals were also clashing violently, each fiercely vying for territory.
Ability users were also engaged on the other side, confronting these strange, mutated beasts with their powers.
"What are they doing? Spewing non-lethal fireballs at a mutated wolf... do they want to die?" Elena muttered, frowning.
Soon, gunfire rang out as the soldiers adjusted their tactics against the mutated creatures.
"They’re from the military; they’re probably training their abilities," Ethan explained.
"Well, they’re adapting quickly and training hard," Elena observed, watching as they seamlessly switched between using their powers and heavy weaponry to fight the mutated animals.
Her gaze then fell on a soldier giving commands, moving the troops forward.
"Isn’t that General Kaiser leading them?" she asked.
"Hmph, that’s him, definitely him," Ethan replied.
Elena chuckled, curiosity sparkling in her eyes as she wondered if General Kaiser’s ability was the same as it had been in her past life.
"Let’s see what ability he awakened."
