Arranged marriage to the princess of the Red Scorpions-Chapter 299
299 Not So Fast
Alonso did his job. Once it was confirmed the information went through successfully, he paid Cane. The mercenary could have whatever he wanted so long as the other didn’t have to deal with him again.
Of course, he didn’t let the other leave until he made sure the promised amount hit his bank account. No way would he let that kind of money escape him. Such a simple thing such high pay.
“Now that you have what you want and help me to get what my boss wanted, we don’t have to see each other again.” Alonso packed up his things to leave. Except, one of the other men suddenly blocked his path.
“Ah ah ah. Not so fast. You didn’t really think you could leave already? You and I have hardly had any time to catch up yet.” Putting his phone away, Cane stood up and put his arm around Alonso’s shoulders, pulling the other closer.
“Don’t you think that it would be good for us to take some extra time together? Since as you say, we likely won’t be seeing each other again?” The right-hand man resisted the urge to shove the other. His sixth sense told him it would the wrong move.
“Spend time catching up? I don’t have time to do that right now. I already told you when I first came here that this was a rush job. That’s why you got paid extra.” Cane nodded his head slowly in a rather understanding manner.
“True. You did say that now that you mentioned. I can’t but notice though that you left out some rather important information.” Cane’s tongue ran over his bottom lip before they pursed together.
“What part did I leave out? I told you who I needed the information for. You even heard for yourself that I wasn’t lying.”
“You did. You didn’t tell me though that there would be someone else needing it as well. You left out that small little important detail.”
.....
“So? It’s not important who the other person is. They aren’t the ones who would be paying you.” Alonso felt the hair on the back of his neck prickle when the other turned to look at him.
“You see, that’s where you and I are different now. Everyone who is involved in a transaction is important to someone like me. Maybe in your little mafia world, it doesn’t matter. It seems that you forgot on this side of things though that that kind of information can make all the difference in the world.” A dark look flashed through Cane’s eyes. The arm around Jovani’s shoulders suddenly got tighter.
“Especially when the other person getting the information happens to be someone of great interest.”
“Great interest? How so? You don’t even know who they are. The only one who should matter to you is the one paying you.” Alonso argued as he tried to push the other away. Cane wasn’t so quick to let him go.
“That’s for me to decide, not you. Purposely keeping information from me when I thought that we had finally gotten back to being on the same page? That really isn’t going to do at all.”
“Cane, back off. You can’t just start changing the rules as you want now. You got paid so leave it.” The two men stared each other down. The rest in the room were tense but unmoving until their boss gave the signal.
“And what? Do you think that I am going to listen just because I got paid? No, no. That isn’t going to work.” He waggled his finger in the other’s face. His anger was barely contained based on the way his eyes narrowed and the redness of his cheeks.
“If you’re wanting me to keep this kind of secret for you, that’s going to cost extra.”
“That isn’t what we negotiated.” Alonso took a step back without breaking eye contact with the other. Hand sliding down to feel for the gun holster.
“Call your boss back up then. We need to renegotiate this matter.” Cane waved at the other’s phone.
“I’m sure he will reply right away since a second so quickly wouldn’t be expected.” Could this man for once not push his limits? Alonso didn’t have the energy to deal with this right now.
“And what if I refuse to do that? You don’t have much of anything to hold me here with. I already got what I wanted.”
“Nothing to hold you with? Have you actually taken a look around this room?” Cane threw up his arms up.
“You’re surrounded! You’re the one who doesn’t have anything on his side to be able to leave here.” 𝐟𝓇ℯ𝐞𝚠𝚎𝒃𝑛𝒐ѵe𝚕.co𝚖
“And you think these many men are enough to keep me here? I think that you might want to reconsider. You seem to be the one forgetting that I dealt with much worse than this in the past. Is that a button you really want to risk pushing with me?” Alonso shifted his position to stand at his full height. Surveying the room to see if everyone was watching them.
“If these men have worked with you long enough, I am sure that they have heard some of the stories. Enough to know that they would be better off backing down than trying their luck.” Some of the men glanced between each other. Confusion and uncertainty crossed their features.
“Are you sure you’re still capable of that? Last I heard, it sounded like the mafia life turned you rather soft. Made you forget about how hard it used to be out here.” Cane sneered at the other who brushed him off.
“I’ve hardly gone soft. Unlike you, I have just chosen to put it aside and focus on other things. He could tell that the other had begun to lose his patience.
“If you want to get paid more, I recommend that you refrain from doing anything right now. I can speak with my boss but I can’t promise anything if I don’t leave here.”
“Not so fast.” Cane stopped the other by taking a step forward to close the space between them.
“You’re just starting to get back into this and now you leave? Why don’t you follow through if you’re so serious?” Alonso knew right away that the other wanted to try and goad him.
“Because I have more important things to do. I suggest you ask the one guarding the other door to move.”
“No. Not yet. We’re not done talking. I still-” A fist connected with Cane’s face resulting in a rather sickening sounding crunch. Falling back hard, his body made contact with the table, upending it as everything either fell to the floor or flew through the air.
Shit... that wasn’t supposed to have been so hard.
