345 Not You

“So what are you wanting to ask me now?” Emily hardly waited for them to be out of the room before popping the question to Jovani whose exasperation remained at a high level.

“You’ve been asking me a lot more favors than normal recently.” The Vedova Nera boss didn’t respond as he lead her further away from the bedroom’s door as he fumbled to get his phone out.

“I keep asking for so many favors because there’s a lot going on right now. This one is a little bigger than some of the others but at a more personal level. Please tell me that you still have some of your stash leftover? I’m dying for a fix right now and alcohol is off the table.” Emily didn’t miss the desperation that laced the other’s voice as he put a hand on her shoulder.

“You’re asking me of all people for something to help sort you out? Damn, you must be desperate since you already know my policy about that type of thing.” Emily worked for the stash she got. Sharing wasn’t caring in her world either, not even when it came to family. If anyone wanted something, they had to work for it the same way that she did.

“Come now. Don’t be such a hard case about it. We both know that I’ve done more than enough for you recently that you could afford to share.” Jovani pushed back. He lost track long ago how many favors he’d done for so surely she could afford to this one for him just this once?

“No, no. You know that it doesn’t work that way. I want something extra. You’ve been asking a lot of favors from me recently to. In fact, you’ve already asked a handful today and I don’t think that will be the end of them. What do you have that you’re willing to give me if I let you have something.” Emily crossed her arms over her chest in a rather defiant manner. Were she a man, Jovani would’ve already begun to cuss her out for that kind of attitude long ago.

“If you’re going to be like that, why not just tell me what you want. We’ve done this came more than enough times I know you’ll reject anything that I try to offer you. You have horribly high and unfair prices that should be illegal.” Emily let out a rather maniacal chuckle in response to her cousin’s words.

“I think that’s a little too harsh coming from you. The price I put forward is in fair consideration of what is being requested from you. I know you well enough to know that you’re going to want something strong. Strong comes with a higher price.” She was right, Jovani knew that much from all the years he’d been involved with drugs. When it came to family, there should’ve at least been some kind of discount deal that he could strike up with her.

“Just, just give it to me now and I’ll pay you back with whatever it is you want later. I swear to god everyone here and on the other side is going to drive me crazy before I even have a chance to get old.” Jovani smacked his head into the wall startling one of the maids who had been tasked with cleaning the area. She jumped and almost knocked over one of the expensive vases. Jovani shot her a warning glare that quickly softened the moment he realized that the girl happened to be one of the younger ones.

.....

“Today isn’t a good day so why don’t you leave for now and you can come back later or have someone else take over your shift. You won’t be in trouble for it.” Perhaps breathing would be easier if there were less people around.

“Fine. I’ll agree to that but because you’re asking me before you’ve even paid, you know that the price is going to be higher later.” Jovani shot a scowl in her direction. Evil woman. How in the world could the two of them be related when he always was the nicer one out of the two of them.

Jovani huffed and scuffed his feet on the floor, shifting the vase slightly away from the edge to prevent it from potentially falling over after the maid had left. Didn’t anyone know better than to put the new workers around the expensive items? Breaking one thing the house would take more than two lifetimes for the workers to pay it back even with the generous amount of money that Jovani paid them. Not to mention most were invaluable family heirlooms.

Rather than continuing his mental rant, Jovani decided to turn his attention to his phone. There was no telling how long it would take for Emily to come back. Her stash wasn’t that hard to find but she could easily get distracted on her way there. Jovani wouldn’t put it past her either to purposely take longer than necessary to come back in order to make his life that much harder.

Jovani scrolled through his phone to check his voicemail. He didn’t know the number but whoever called left a message. Before he could click to listen however, another phone call came through with from a contact less number.

“I don’t know who is calling but whatever you’re bothering me for better be good. I don’t have much patience to deal with any more problems today.” Jovani’s brusque response earned him a chuckle from the caller. A rather familiar sounding chuckle that only aided in further souring his made and making his headache soar to an unimagineable level of pain.

“How nice to be talking with you as well. I honestly didn’t expect that you would answer my call but now that we are here, hopefully have a nice conversation.” No. Absolutely not. Jovani couldn’t handle this on a good day but today when he’d not had anything in his system to help his mood? Impossible.

“Not you. You’re the last person that I want to be talking with right now.”𝒇𝚛e𝘦wℯ𝑏𝓃𝑜νℯ𝒍.co𝗺
