As A Mafia Boss, I Refuse To Be An Extra-Chapter 145: Giants Come
[Hidden Cave - Human Survivor Camp]
Major Ryan stood at the cave entrance, scanning the forest with experienced eyes.
The past week had been tense with everyone constantly expecting Giant patrols to discover their location.
But strangely, the searches had moved away from their area, the Giants apparently focusing their efforts elsewhere.
"Think we’re safe here long-term?"
Marcus Feng asked from beside him, the businessman-turned-soldier having become Ryan’s de facto second-in-command.
"No location is safe long-term. But this cave is defensible and hidden. We’ve expanded it enough to house everyone comfortably. The water source is nearby as well as edible plants in the surrounding forest."
Ryan’s military pragmatism kept his assessment realistic.
"We can survive here for months if necessary, assuming the Giants don’t stumble onto us."
Isaac Reeves and Thomas Kane, the only other survivors from Damian’s original volunteer group, were helping organize food gathering and security rotations.
Twenty-six people remained alive here. Twenty-six out of the original seventy-four who’d been pulled through the portal.
The survivors had bonded through shared trauma, creating a tight-knit community despite their diverse backgrounds.
"Movement in the sky!"
One of the lookouts shouted suddenly.
Everyone tensed with weapons appearing as defensive positions were taken instinctively.
Then... they recognized the massive form descending toward them.
"It’s Kuro! The raven!"
Relief flooded through the group. If Kuro was returning, maybe Damian was with him.
The raven landed heavily outside the cave entrance, and they saw what he was carrying.
Damian’s unconscious form, covered in blood, his clothes completely destroyed, his body showing signs of extensive damage even though most of the wounds appeared to be healing.
"Shit! Get him inside! Marcus, Thomas, help me!"
Ryan moved immediately, his military medical training kicking in.
They carried Damian carefully into the cave with Kuro following behind, shrinking back to normal size once his burden was transferred.
The survivors gathered around, their expressions mixing concern with horror at Damian’s condition.
"What happened to him? He looks like he’s been fighting nonstop for days."
"Look at his body. He’s changed so much since the last time we saw him. He looks more muscular and taller."
"The blood... there’s so much blood. Is any of it his?"
Ryan examined Damian quickly, checking vitals as he assessed his injuries.
"His pulse is strong. Breathing steady. No immediately life-threatening wounds visible. But he’s completely unconscious and unresponsive to external stimuli."
He looked at Kuro, who watched intently from nearby.
"Did you do this? Put him to sleep somehow?"
The raven cawed once, a sound that seemed affirmative.
"Then you probably saved his life. Whatever he was doing out there... he clearly couldn’t stop himself."
They cleaned Damian as best as they could, removing the layers of dried blood, covering him with blankets made out of leaves... making him as comfortable as possible.
Then they let him rest, posting guards but otherwise giving him space to recover.
"We need to stay hidden."
Marcus spoke to the assembled survivors.
"Damian bought us time by whatever he’s been doing to the Giants. But if they find us while he’s unconscious, we’re defenseless."
The survivors agreed as they doubled the security measures, preparing defensive positions and doing everything possible to avoid detection.
Days passed.
Damian remained unconscious, his body healing slowly, his breathing sometimes irregular as if he was fighting battles even in sleep.
Kuro never left his side, the raven standing guard over his bond partner with fierce protectiveness.
The survivors waited, hoped, and prayed that the Giants wouldn’t find them before Damian woke up.

[Day Five of Damian’s Unconsciousness]
The Giants finally found them.
Five hundred warriors, nearly all their remaining strength, led personally by Commander Vorgath who had finally recovered enough to join the hunt.
They’d been searching every sector of the portal world, and eventually and inevitably, their search pattern brought them to the cave.
"Commander! Tracks lead into that rock formation! Multiple humans have appeared here recently!"
One of the scouts reported excitedly.
Vorgath approached slowly, his ten-meter frame making even the surrounding trees look small.
His massive hammer rested on his shoulder, inscribed with runes that pulsed with B- rank power.
"Surround it. Block all escape routes. I want every warrior ready. If the predator that’s been killing our soldiers is with them, we end this today."
The Giants moved with military precision, forming a perimeter that made escape impossible.
Inside the cave, Ryan heard the approach and his blood ran cold.
"Everyone up! Giants! Hundreds of them! Defensive positions NOW!"
"...Is it finally over?"
"At least we survived more days than the others!"
"Fuck! I want a fucking drink!"
"Good luck getting it here, idiot!"
The survivors scrambled, grabbing their weapons as they formed up in the cave entrance, knowing this was probably their last stand.
Then... they saw Commander Vorgath step into view, and several actually lost control of their bladders.
He was massive beyond comprehension.
Ten meters of armored muscle and killing intent, radiating power that made the air itself feel heavy.
"B- rank! That’s a B- rank Giant! We’re all dead!"
Thomas’s voice shook with terror.
"Hold position! Don’t break formation!"
Ryan tried to maintain order despite his own fear.
Vorgath’s voice rumbled across the clearing, speaking in the Giant language that none of the humans understood, but the meaning was clear from his gestures.
’Surrender or die. Those are your only options.’
Ryan stepped forward, raising his weapon in defiance.
"We will not surrender! You’ll have to kill us!"
Vorgath smiled, a terrible expression on his massive face. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Then he gestured, and the Giants charged.
Kuro launched from the cave entrance, expanding to his full C+ rank size, his red eyes blazing with determination as he used his only skill.
The mental attack hit the front ranks of Giants, dropping twenty of them into unconscious trances.
THUD THUD THUD
But five hundred minus twenty still left overwhelming numbers!
Ryan and the survivors fought with desperate courage, their weapons enhanced with Aura, their skills pushed to absolute limits.
Marcus’s blade opened wounds on D rank Giants but bounced off C rank armor.
Isaac’s strength let him grapple with smaller warriors but was useless against the larger ones.
Thomas’s SFD training gave him technical skill but couldn’t overcome the massive strength disparity.
"AVENGE ME–"
"IF ANYONE SURVIVES–"
"AHHH!"
The survivors fell one by one.
A Giant’s hammer caught one man across the chest, the impact pulverizing his torso.
"AHH–"
An axe split another from shoulder to hip, his scream cutting off as he fell in pieces.
A third was grabbed and literally torn apart, his limbs ripped from his body while he was still conscious.
Twenty-six survivors became Twenty. Twenty became fifteen. Fixteen became Ten.
Kuro fought like something possessed, his talons and beak tearing through D rank and even some C rank Giants with vicious efficiency.
But even he couldn’t stand against five hundred.
CRACK
A hammer caught his wing, breaking his bones and making him fall to the ground.
An axe opened his side with blood spraying.
A spear punched through his chest, the raven’s cry of pain echoing across the battlefield.
