Chapter 1474: Chapter 1474: Life is Like a Dream 3

Halfway through her journey, Feng Qingxue suddenly remembered that yesterday, Lu Erxiong had torn up the comic book Dundun was reading, so she detoured to the bookstore.

Their family buys books in complete sets, never minding the cost.

The bookstores normally sell books that don’t have any major issues, and over the years, Feng Qingxue had purchased all of them. Her study couldn’t accommodate more, so she stored them in void space. She hadn’t forgotten that, years later, these comics and stamps would be sold at exorbitant prices. Naturally, she wouldn’t miss out on items like "The Whole Country in Red" or the Monkey Stamp, which are said to fetch tens of millions.

Although the department stores and various food stores are bustling with people, there are hardly any customers in the bookstore aside from the staff, with the bright red Quotations from Chairman Mao occupying most of the shelf space.

Eating is paramount and education is not given much importance now.

There stood an old man in plain clothes, thin and worn, reading a book in front of the bookshelf. He was looking at an English book, his nose supporting a pair of glasses mended with tape. His hair was all white. When the bookstore staff sorting the books walked by him, they veered away as if he were a piece of filth, fearing to get tainted.

"Teacher Qin, are you here to buy books?" Feng Qingxue greeted as she walked over.

Professor Qin looked up at her, laughing self-deprecatingly, "How could I afford it? Taking advantage of the school break and not having to scrub toilets, I just came out for a stroll. I’m just here to have a look, as many glances as I can get."

Feng Qingxue felt a pang of sadness, whispering, "I made you a winter coat. You weren’t in, so I left it at the reception with Teacher Jin."

Professor Qin was taken aback, his eyes reddening.

"Why waste the money on that? These old clothes of mine can still be worn." He had his own, and those few old folks who had tutored Feng Qingxue privately for sure had some too. Each piece might seem trivial, but together they added up to a significant sum.

Feng Qingxue smiled, "As long as you’re warm, it’s not a waste. I won’t keep you. Let me see if they have the books I want."

"Which books? I’m quite familiar with this bookstore’s stock." Professor Qin was a book fanatic, and despite having lost thousands of books to fire once, he hadn’t changed his ways.

"Comic books!"

Professor Qin choked on his saliva, "You’re buying it for the kids, right?"

"Yes, my naughty little boy tore up his brother’s two comic books, and I need to replace them." Dundun was a good brother; he didn’t beat up Lu Erxiong, nor did he cry. He just picked up the torn comics and pieced them back together. Whoever saw it couldn’t help but feel heartache. That’s why Feng Qingxue had severely punished Erxiong.

Professor Qin pointed to the left, "The picture story books are all over there."

After buying a few sets of newly published comic books and spotting a few sets of the "Self-Study Series on Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry," Feng Qingxue paid for them. She could never have too many of these books; they would come in handy in five years.

Carrying a large stack of books bound together, Feng Qingxue arrived home, only to be surprised by two familiar faces.

"Teacher Zhu? Teacher Wenyue?" Sitting in her own living room were none other than Zhu Ling and Wenyue, looking neat and clean, their faces beaming with radiant smiles.

Wenyue said with a smile, "Xiaoxue, have we been away so long that you don’t recognize us?"

"It’s not that I don’t recognize you, how could I not when I’ve addressed you without missing a beat? It’s just surprising to see you both back in the Capital." In truth, she was curious, as encountering the elderly couple here likely meant a turn of fortune for them.

Wenyue said with emotion, "Who would have thought we’d return to the Capital in our lifetime. Not just you, we too felt like we were dreaming the entire journey here."
