Back To The 80s-Chapter 638: Extra Three: Galsang Flower on the Plateau (Part Ten)_1
Lu Weiyi looked incredulously at the two mischievous little girls before launching herself at Xiaopang, pressing her onto the sofa, and protesting in annoyance, "How old are you to be thinking about boys? Do you know what it means to miss a guy?"
Guoguo nodded seriously from the side, "I get it, it’s like how I am every day, longing for Brother Mo Wang, to the point where I can’t even eat. My grandma says I’ve lost weight."
Lu Weiyi rubbed her forehead and sighed heavily, looking at Guoguo’s chubby cheeks as she managed a bemused smile, "Guoguo, how old are you to understand feeling lovesick to the point where you can’t eat, huh? If anything, you’re plumper than last year."
Guoguo gasped, "Really? No, no, no, I’m not eating tonight, I need to diet. What if Brother Mo Wang doesn’t like chubby girls?"
Xiaopang chuckled and said, "You, dieting? Yeah right, not even a ghost would believe that. Hahaha. You’re the one who gets up in the middle of the night to sneak ice cream."
Guoguo pounced on Xiaopang and they started scuffling in laughter. As Lu Weiyi’s smile faded, there was a hint of melancholy in her eyes. Why couldn’t she control herself? Why did she always want to know how Chen Gang was doing? She finally got some holiday time and rushed over to see Gu Xiaobei and the rest, just so she could glean some information about Chen Gang.
Chen Gang in the secretly watched video looked much thinner. Was he not eating properly?
As Chen Gang walked to his dorm, his thoughts dwelled on the Galsang flowers. The more he thought about it, the less right it felt. He pulled out his mobile phone and found a spot with good reception, then dialed Xiaopang’s number.
Xiaopang was busy messing around with Guoguo and yelled at Lu Weiyi, "Sister Lele, can you answer the phone? If it’s my mom, tell her I’m not online."
Lu Weiyi answered the call with a smile, "Hello, who’s this?"
Chen Gang froze on the spot like he had just been electrocuted.
Lu Weiyi, thinking it was a bad connection, shook her cell phone and said, "Hello, is this Xiaopang? She said she was doing her homework."
Xiaopang screamed in protest, "Sister Lele, you sold me out!"
Chen Gang listened to the conversation on the phone, stunned. Sister Lele...Lu Weiyi... His hand started trembling. It turned out that Lu Weiyi was the niece of Xiaopang’s uncle? What a small world. Just as he was about to give up, he was given a glimmer of hope.
Lu Weiyi was still shouting on the other end, "Hello, hello, can you hear me? If you don’t say anything, I’ll hang up. It’s six cents a minute for a call and Xiaopang will be upset about it."
"Weiyi, it’s me!" Chen Gang managed to steady his nerves before speaking.
Now it was Lu Weiyi’s turn to freeze. She let out a scream before the call cut off.
When Chen Gang tried to call again, it indicated that the phone was switched off. He figured he should probably just give up. The main reason he had bought a mobile phone was in the hope that one day he could get through to Lu Weiyi’s perpetually-off phone.
Finally, he had found her, but as soon as he said something, she hung up on him. It was a clear sign that Lu Weiyi really didn’t want to deal with him. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Lu Weiyi charged at Xiaopang, clutching her phone and screaming, "What kind of lousy phone is this? The battery died at a crucial time... Where’s the charger?"
Xiaopang pointed at her room, puzzled, "It’s inside. Who was it? You seemed pretty hyped."
Lu Weiyi charged her phone and turned it back on, but no more calls came. She didn’t have the courage to call back. She pulled her hair in frustration, packed her bags in haste, and prepared to return to Shen City.
Xiaopang watched Lu Weiyi leaving as if she was escaping some danger, uttering in shock, "Did Sister Lele get chased by someone? Why did she just take off?"
Guoguo casually shrugged with a mature look on her face, confidently stating, "She didn’t run away; she went off to chase a man."
Xiaopang looked incredulously at Guoguo, pointing at her smooth forehead, "Guoguo, you’re only thirteen. How is it that you know everything? It’s not adorable at all!"
Guoguo giggled, "Well, that’s because I’m a genius kid who knows everything!"
"Thick-skinned enough to be my sister-in-law, huh?" Xiaopang teased, hugging Guoguo with a big laugh.
Guoguo blinked her large eyes and declared confidently, "Not just can, it’s a must!"
Xiaopang suddenly whispered mischievously to Guoguo, "Don’t tell my mom about this; if my six brothers really became our brother-in-law, we could extort a big red envelope from him."
Guoguo nodded wholeheartedly, their plans were set!
In March of 2003, SARS outbreak began, spreading from Yuegang to the entire country, being especially severe in Capital City.
Almost every day after training, Chen Gang would intently watch the news on television or monitor the epidemic’s developments on military websites. Being a doctor, he knew Lu Weiyi would definitely be on the frontline.
There were daily reports on the progress of the Xiaotangshan emergency center; Chen Gang wouldn’t miss any news about any hospital, hoping to catch sight of a familiar figure while simultaneously hoping not to see Lu Weiyi on screen.
Chen Gang didn’t understand why he acted like this - he just couldn’t help but concern himself and miss her. His lovesickness was deeply etched into his bones, yet he found it sweet.
Whenever Chen Gang had time, he would call Gu Xiaobei to ask about their situation and express concern for each of them. He longed to ask about Lu Weiyi, but every time her name rose to his lips, he swallowed it back down. He didn’t want Gu Xiaobei worrying about his relationship troubles.
As if suddenly remembering something, Gu Xiaobei asked, "Oh right, Chen Gang, have you run into Lele?"
Chen Gang jolted at Gu Xiaobei’s initiative, "No, did something happen?"
Gu Xiaobei seemed to talk to himself, "That devil! Half a year ago, she ran off from our place straight to Shen City, and then apparently requested a transfer to the Tibetan Area to work as a doctor. It seems she is in your city. She hasn’t been in touch for half a year, aside from a brief call during the New Year. Haven’t heard anything since then because she’s been too busy. If you run into Lele, could you look out for her a bit? Aside from her work, she’s so haphazard with everything else. I’m afraid she might lose her way."
Chen Gang didn’t hear what Gu Xiaobei said after that. All he knew was that Lu Weiyi was in the Tibetan Area. And she came to the Tibetan Area again without informing him.
After hanging up the phone, Chen Gang requested a leave and headed straight for the city hospital.
Watching Chen Gang’s hasty departure, Sun Meng grimly admitted to herself that she had lost.
Chen Gang ran to the hospital information desk, asking if there was a new doctor named Lu Weiyi who had transferred there six months ago.
A feminine voice from the nurse spoke warmly, "I think you’re referring to Galsang Flower, right? She joined us six months ago and named herself Galsang Flower."
Chen Gang asked urgently, "Where is this Galsang Flower now?"
"She should be resting in her dormitories now, it’s her lunch break. It’s the building in the back, second floor. You’ll find her name on the door," the nurse answered enthusiastically.
Chen Gang ran towards the rear building, fearing he would be too late and Lu Weiyi would disappear again.
Lu Weiyi had just taken off her coat and was preparing to wash her face and take a nap when there was an urgent knock on the door.
Lu Weiyi, thinking it was an emergency, quickly opened the door. Before she could make out the visitor, a blur of green rushed in, spun around to close the door behind her, and with the same momentum pressed her against the door.
Lu Weiyi finally recognized it was Chen Gang. As her eyes reddened, she whimpered softly, "Chen Gang."
Chen Gang looked at the woman he had longed for over three hundred days, standing before his eyes. She looked thinner and paler. Overwhelmed with a mix of anger and worry, he bent down and kissed her without hesitation.
