Back To The 90s: The Resilient Daughter-In-Law-Chapter 1407 - 1426: Pleading
Nan Fei returned from outside and was stopped by Duan Yuang in the corridor, with Lin Jiang standing nearby, seemingly indifferent.
"May I ask what the matter is?"
"Jiang Nanfei." Duan Yuang hesitated, his eyes scanning Nan Fei’s face which briefly showed a hint of struggle. Finally, he turned to look at Lin Jiang not far away before he finally said, "I have a favor to ask of you."
Nan Fei looked straight at him, her clear eyes making Duan Yuang feel uneasy and uncomfortable. He was friends with Jiang Nanfei on equal terms, but now he was using the goodwill of their friendship to ask for a favor, which made him feel extremely awkward.
The main thing was that Duan Yuang had always been a prideful individual from a young age, although he was generally mild-mannered, his pride was no less than anyone else’s.
It can be said that he had never bowed his head to anyone throughout his life.
Nan Fei just quietly watched him, waiting for him to continue speaking.
Duan Yuang looked even more embarrassed, having thought that after his initial speech, Jiang Nanfei would take the initiative to ask him about it. He had not expected this outcome at all.
Actually, he was mistaken; if this had happened in the morning when he first arrived, and he was willing to speak up, Nan Fei would definitely have responded actively, but now she didn’t want to.
Lin Jiang stood not far away, appearing to be admiring the scenery, but in fact, he was sneakily observing the two, listening to their conversation. For some reason, he felt slightly pleased, his lips curling into a smile unintentionally.
"It’s about Wen Qi." Duan Yuang’s face turned red as he spoke, whether from embarrassment or frustration was unclear. "I... I, I want to ask if you could please be so kind as to let Wen Qi off this time."
When Nan Fei heard Duan Yuang say the words "be so kind as to let her off," her gaze turned colder. She was now certain that she had made a mistake in choosing this friend. No true friend would use such words to describe another friend.
"Be so kind" sounded like it was describing a villain, and she detected a tone of mockery in it.
"Don’t you dislike her? Aren’t you angry that she has been following you since childhood, ruining your chances of making new friends?" Nan Fei asked, puzzled.
Duan Yuang became even more awkward, stuttering as he explained: "It’s not really like that, Wen Qi is still young, spoiled from childhood, inevitably having a bad temper but she does it unintentionally, without any malice."
Nan Fei was now very certain about her previous decision to befriend Duan Yuang, thinking he was a very decent person, even having been targeted by Wen Qi because of him. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
She must have been blind back then.
Now it seemed that Duan Yuang must have known about the things Wen Qi did behind the scenes, or at least, he approved of them tacitly. Perhaps, he actually enjoyed Wen Qi’s twisted possessiveness.
These two are truly childhood sweethearts, indeed a match made in heaven.
"So you mean to say that I am a malicious thinker?" Nan Fei asked nonchalantly.
Duan Yuang was stunned, taking a moment to catch on before hastily shaking his head, "Of course not, I really didn’t mean anything else. Nan Fei, considering we are both classmates and friends, please let Wen Qi go this time! She is still young, and she only applied to the military academy for me. If she carries a lawsuit on her back, it would greatly affect her future prospects."
From his delayed reaction, Nan Fei clearly saw. Now, in Duan Yuang’s mind, she was probably nearly equivalent to the evil queen in a fairy tale. And his little childhood friend is a naive and pure princess, with a bad temper but no malicious intentions.
