After school, Gu Zi returned home and instructed the children to get started on their schoolwork. But as she glanced at Big Yellow, she realized she hadn’t yet taken him out to explore the surroundings. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Spontaneously, she decided to take him for a walk, attaching a leash to the dog’s collar before heading out the door.

Just as they entered a narrow alley, a woman’s voice suddenly pierced the air. “Thief! Someone’s stealing my bag!”

Gu Zi’s eyes snapped up, and she saw a man in his thirties sprinting towards her, clutching a designer handbag. As he passed her, he shot her a taunting look and sneered, “What are you staring at? Don’t get involved!”

Startled, Gu Zi let go of the leash without realizing it, too stunned to react. But before she could even process what was happening, Big Yellow let out a low growl—a warning before he lunged toward the thief.

The man, still swaggering ahead, turned just in time to see a large dog barrel towards him. With a startled yelp, he was knocked to the ground by Big Yellow, who seized the thief with a fury. The designer bag dropped from his hands, and the woman chasing after him quickly grabbed it and began inspecting it.

Within moments, the local security team from Jiangjia Village arrived, quickly subduing the now bloodied and bruised thief. As they dragged him away, the grateful woman walked up to Gu Zi. “Miss, thank you so much for your dog. If it wasn’t for him, it would’ve been a nightmare. It’s one thing to lose money, but I can’t afford to lose my ID.”

Gu Zi took in the woman’s outfit—head to toe in designer labels—and her eyes narrowed. This woman was clearly wealthy, with a bit of a plump figure, and it was obvious she had little to no street smarts.

Who in their right mind would come to a place like Jiangjia Village dressed so conspicuously? It was practically asking for trouble. If it hadn’t been for her spontaneous decision to walk Big Yellow, this situation could’ve ended much worse.

“You should thank Big Yellow, not me. He’s the real hero here,” Gu Zi replied dryly. “By the way, you don’t seem like you’re from around here. Are you looking for someone?”

The woman’s face brightened. “Your dog is really well-behaved, like a military dog! When I come back next time, I’ll bring him some premium meat bones. I’m actually here to find someone. I was wondering if you could help me. Do you know of a family that just moved in, surnamed Su?”

Gu Zi’s heart skipped a beat. New residents, surnamed Su—was this lady talking about her family? Was she looking for Su Shen?

“The Su family… is the man of the house called Su Shen?” Gu Zi asked, her voice calm but with a sharp edge.

The woman’s eyes lit up. “Yes, that’s the one! Su Shen is my husband’s old comrade-in-arms. I’m not here to see him, though. My husband mentioned that Su Shen married a young, beautiful woman, a top student from Imperial Capital University. I just have to meet her. She must be something extraordinary.”

Gu Zi let out a small cough, surprised. “Well, actually, I’m Su Shen’s wife. My name is Gu Zi. It’s nice to meet you.”

The woman froze for a second, her expression a mixture of surprise and realization. Then she broke into a smile. “Well, what do you know, we’re really meant to meet! I’m Sun Yi, Chen Yu’s wife, and Chen Xi’s sister-in-law.”

After exchanging introductions, Gu Zi led Sun Yi back to her home.

As they sat down, Gu Zi learned that Sun Yi wasn’t just the typical rich wife—she was an incredibly successful businesswoman in her own right. She ran a profitable clothing business, owned a factory, and earned as much as Chen Yu.

Sun Yi came from a family of entrepreneurs in the south, and her business acumen had been honed through years of traveling and working with her parents. She met Chen Yu after he retired from the military and started a business of his own.

Perhaps because of her upbringing in a family of traders, Sun Yi had an innate knack for business. If she hadn’t married and had children, Gu Zi mused, Sun Yi would probably have become a powerhouse in the business world.

As it was, whenever Chen Yu faced financial setbacks, it was Sun Yi and her family who stepped in to help him bounce back. Listening to her story, Gu Zi realized that Sun Yi was a formidable woman—a true example of modern-day female strength.

But even the most successful women have their struggles, and Sun Yi was no exception. She sighed as she vented her frustrations. “Speaking of Chen Yu, I could just strangle him. When he married me, he promised me that no matter how old I got, he’d never change his feelings. But just a few years after I had our baby, I started putting on weight, and suddenly, his eyes were everywhere but on me. Now, he’s always involved in scandals with other women. I’m good at making money, but unlike those women, I just can’t play the game of seduction.”

Gu Zi listened, a touch of disdain creeping in for Su Shen’s old comrade. It was becoming more and more clear that Chen Yu had placed that woman by Su Shen’s side with ulterior motives, trying to use her to trap Su Shen into some sort of romantic distraction.

It was no surprise, then, that Chen Yu, despite his business setbacks, couldn’t escape the web of resentment he’d built for himself. Yet, he was still dependent on Sun Yi’s support to stay afloat.
