Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 19 - 18: He’s Pushing His Luck Again
Si Shuo struggled to stay conscious, listening to every single word he said.
She was from the modern world, so her views on love and marriage were different from the Beastmen’s. One was about emotional connection, the other about survival.
But she had to admit, Ji Liang’s words softened her heart a little.
She said weakly, "How do I know if you’re telling the truth?"
Ji Liang chuckled. "The Beast Mark is proof of my sincerity, Little Shuoshuo. I won’t touch you. Just let me in, okay?
I’ll transfer some Spiritual Power to you to make you feel better. Toughing it out will harm your body."
"No! I can’t open the door for you," Si Shuo said, biting down so hard on the handkerchief in her mouth that her gums started to bleed.
Ji Liang sighed softly. "Ah, Little Shuoshuo saw right through me again. Fine, I won’t come in. Can I send you Spiritual Power through the door?"
As he spoke, a cool and gentle energy squeezed through the crack under the door and slowly enveloped Si Shuo.
She almost let out a comfortable whimper, and her tightly furrowed brow instantly relaxed.
"Good girl. The harsh winter just ended, and your body is too frail to handle the night’s chill. Spread some Beast Skins by the door and cover yourself with another layer. I’ll keep sending you Spiritual Power."
Suddenly, the Spiritual Power cut off. Si Shuo subconsciously grasped at the air, let out a soft "mm," and trotted to the inner room. She brought back the Beast Skins, spread them out, covered herself, and then said quietly, "I’m... I’m lying down now."
Ji Liang hissed. ’I really want to break down this door.’
’Does the little female even know what saying that to a male implies?’
He had just managed to get the little female to lower her guard a little, only to be miserably blocked by a wooden door, forced to send her Spiritual Power from a distance and let most of it dissipate into the air.
However, that Spiritual Power also lowered the temperature in the cave, making Si Shuo much more comfortable during her Mating Period.
"Go get some sleep. I’ll watch over you until dawn, then I’ll leave," he said, leaning against the door and gazing at the clear, cold moon in the sky. His voice was incredibly tender.
Si Shuo’s lips curved into a slight smile. "Thank you, Lord Ji Liang."
"If you’re really thankful, then weave me a bracelet when you have free time during the day," Ji Liang said bluntly, raising an eyebrow.
Si Shuo had never met anyone who could take advantage of a situation faster than him. But since he had helped her out immensely, she could only agree sullenly.
Before long, Si Shuo, who had been tormented for two days with little rest, could no longer fight off her drowsiness. She fell fast asleep and even started to snore softly.
After a dreamless night, Si Shuo opened her eyes and habitually touched the Beast Mark on her wrist, letting Zhi Le know she was awake and that she missed him.
When she was fully awake, she realized she had slept by the cave entrance. Remembering last night’s events, her face couldn’t help but flush, and her body temperature rose a little again.
Looking at her pathetic two-digit total of Beast Coins, Si Shuo didn’t dare splurge on a ready-made meal from the supermarket. Fortunately, she had previously bought a 110-pound bag of rice and a 110-pound bag of flour, which would be enough to last her for a very long time.
Besides, the things she bought from the supermarket could be temporarily kept in a storage locker and wouldn’t take up her personal space.
She scooped out some flour, poured in a little water, cracked in an egg, added salt and wild scallions, and mixed it all into a batter. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
She brushed a thin layer of oil on a stone pan and ladled in a spoonful of batter, spreading it flat. Once the batter solidified, she flipped it over. A pancake was done in two or three minutes!
Si Shuo stacked up a good number of the savory scallion and egg pancakes. Soft, springy, and fragrant, they were one of her favorite breakfast foods. Paired with a thick millet porridge, it was just too satisfying.
She stored the leftover egg pancakes in her space, then opened the door, grabbed a fruit that Zhi Le had gathered, and gnawed on it while basking in the sun.
Hearing the noise, Yimei poked her head out and waved. She mouthed silently, "Si Shuo, did you hear the commotion last night?"
Si Shuo went rigid. ’Didn’t Ji Liang say he set up some kind of defensive barrier to block out sounds and smells? How could someone have heard?’
She shook her head.
Yimei slapped her own forehead. "I forgot you can’t hear, Si Shuo."
She pointed down below with some excitement and continued to just mouth her words: "Your sister brought a Rogue Beast back to her cave last night! It was one of the Little Captains from the Dark Crow Trading Team, the Level 5 Crocodile Beastman, You Wei!
Oh my, the two of them made such a huge racket last night. He really is a Rogue Beast! That ferocity... it got my Rongxing so riled up he was way more intense than usual..."
Si Shuo was stunned. ’Is... is this something I should be hearing for free?’
Yimei looked at her dazed expression and laughed. "It’s a good thing you can’t hear, otherwise how much would you be missing your Zhi Le?"
Si Shuo shot her a glare and huffed. ’Teasing me at a time like this...’
Yimei nudged her and jutted her chin in a certain direction.
Si Shuo followed her gaze and saw Bu Meng and two other Rogue Beasts going in and out, acting as laborers and carrying things into Yu Jiao’s cave.
But then she also saw Ji Liang sauntering over. With that lazy swagger, he didn’t look like a Beastman at all, but rather some idle Prince from ancient times out for a stroll!
He looked over at her, flicked his tongue with a HISS, and smiled as he touched his wrist.
Si Shuo pressed her lips together and refused to look at him, but she went back into her cave, gathered some things, and sat down with Yimei at the entrance with her shallow wicker basket to do some crafts.
She had already sewn four spring outfits for herself and two for Zhi Le.
Besides clothes, she had also made many accessories, like fluffy hair flowers, brooches, bracelets, necklaces, and wristbands.
Yimei and the others thought they were pretty and had made some as well.
Si Shuo looked through her sewing basket at the beast tendons, beast teeth, and beads. ’Things made from these are a bit too feminine.’
Her gaze shifted to the Beast Skins. She picked out three pieces—black, red, and gold—that had good hardness and elasticity. Taking them into the cave, she used an eyebrow razor to painstakingly scrape all the fur off.
Si Shuo took a pair of scissors and cut the de-furred beast skin into thin strips, about as wide as they were thick.
She paired up the strips by color, treating each pair as a single strand, and wove them together in a three-strand braid. The end was finished with an adjustable sliding knot.
Such a bracelet was simple and elegant. The contrasting colors matched his style of dress, and it didn’t look feminine at all. In fact, it had a rather cool vibe.
She couldn’t resist trying it on her own wrist to see. The more she looked at it, the better it seemed. She made one for Zhi Le with alternating cyan, white, and light blue, and one for herself in white, pink, and blue.
The other females saw them and loved them, and they all started learning how to make them from her.
The bracelets were simple to weave and looked good. While teaching the other females, Si Shuo ended up making quite a few herself, since she could finish one in just five or six minutes.
When it was time for lunch, she took the bracelets to the plaza to sell to a trader, exchanging them for some trinkets. She also took the opportunity to stuff the bracelet into Ji Liang’s hand.
Ji Liang couldn’t help but grasp her hand. "Little Si Shuo, am I someone who can’t be seen in public? Is this the bracelet you wove especially for me?
The one you made so many of that you’re selling the extras..."
His hand was cool and dry, and Si Shuo couldn’t stop herself from wanting to press it against her cheek.
Si Shuo had no retort for his words. ’Why did I have to be like this? Just because the bracelet looked nice, I couldn’t stop myself from making so many, giving him another reason to press his advantage!’
"Then what do you want?" Unable to pull her hand away and anxious that other Beastmen might see, Si Shuo asked in a low voice.
Ji Liang slowly played with her hand. ’The little female’s hand is so soft and smooth, I want to take a bite...’
