Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 311 - 310: Let’s Eat Goose Eggs, the Plain-Boiled Kind
Si Shuo casually reached out and felt something. ’Two large, white, slightly elongated goose eggs? Which one of the cubs was being naughty and left these behind?’
She was hungry, so she got dressed, picked up the goose eggs, and went to find Xu Chi. "Xu Chi, let’s eat these goose eggs, shall we? Hard-boiled!"
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but did one of the eggs just move a little?
Back in her world, goose eggs were considered highly nutritious. The elderly believed that if a pregnant woman ate plenty of goose eggs, it could clear "fetal toxins," reducing the baby’s chances of developing skin conditions like eczema or jaundice.
Right now, though, she was just plain hungry. ’These goose eggs are so big, beautiful, and white. They look delicious!’
Xu Chi smiled and agreed. But as he took the eggs, he froze for a moment. There were many types of eggs in the animal kingdom—bird eggs, Snake Eggs, turtle eggs, crocodile eggs, and so on. Each had its own unique characteristics. However, with so many varieties, colors, and sizes, it was rare for anyone to identify an egg on sight alone.
However, python eggs were oval, elongated, and a bit soft. He looked at the slightly dented shell, then silently glanced at Si Shuo’s stomach.
Her pregnancy hadn’t shown much, and now her stomach was completely flat again.
Xu Chi couldn’t stop his lip from twitching. He feigned a casual tone and asked, "Shuoshuo, where did you get these two... goose eggs?"
At the mention of this, Si Shuo grew indignant. "It must have been your Youyou. She must have hidden some eggs and taken them out to amuse one of her younger siblings. Good thing I found them when I did, or I would’ve sat on a bed full of egg yolk."
Xu Chi shuddered just thinking about the image. ’How horrifying!’
Just then, Ji Liang returned, carrying a heavy Beast Skin Bag. He was dripping wet, a clear sign he had been out hunting for his mate and the cubs.
A smile touched his lips when he saw Si Shuo was awake. He set down the Beast Skin Bag, but when he turned, he saw the two eggs in Xu Chi’s hands?!
Seeing Ji Liang staring at the eggs, Si Shuo said with a smile, "Haven’t you eaten, Ji Liang? We’re about to have some boiled goose eggs. They’re delicious with sauce in a flatbread."
Xu Chi felt the eggs in his hands begin to tremble anxiously.
Ji Liang’s whole demeanor changed. He rushed forward and carefully cupped the two eggs in his hands. Feeling the connection to his own bloodline, he gave Si Shuo a strange look. "Little Shushu, you said these are goose eggs? Where did you find them?"
"On the bed," Si Shuo replied. Seeing his odd expression, she asked, confused, "What’s wrong? Is there something special about these goose eggs? Are they not for eating?"
Hearing the commotion, the other Beast Husbands came over. They glanced at the eggs in Ji Liang’s hands, then listened as their mate talked about goose eggs and her plans to eat them. One by one, they broke out in a cold sweat, even as they struggled to keep from doubling over with laughter. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Little Shushu, didn’t you feel that something was a tiny bit... off?" Ji Liang was on the verge of tears. ’My cubs were almost eaten by their own mother!’
"Are these eggs spoiled?" Si Shuo glanced at the dented spot and had a sudden thought. "In that case, I’ll just get some fresh ones from my storage space. No, wait. I need to go through Youyou’s space later and see what she’s hiding in there. Is her space refrigerated, or is time frozen? I have to check if the food she’s stashed has expired..."
Xiao Cheng couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst out laughing. When Si Shuo shot him a frown, he just wagged his tail. "I’m just so happy to see you that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud."
Wei Ce caught the mood and broke into a goofy grin. "The Snake Cubs have been really well-behaved today, haven’t they? They didn’t make a fuss about being hungry?"
Si Shuo froze and touched her stomach. ’Huh?!’ She looked down at her flat belly, then at Ji Liang’s deadpan expression, then at Xiao Cheng, who was now rolling on the floor with laughter, and finally at the two white "goose eggs"...
A terrible premonition crept over her. "Ji... Ji Liang... don’t tell me these are... Snake Eggs?! That *I* laid?!"
Ji Liang said irritably, "If it wasn’t you, who else would it be? You think I have another mate on the side?"
’I look away for one moment, and she lays Snake Eggs in her sleep. Then she wakes up, doesn’t even recognize her own cubs, and decides to boil them for breakfast. This... this is a feat no one else could possibly accomplish.’
Si Shuo clutched her chest. ’I almost ate my own eggs?’ ’This... I must have woken up on the wrong side of reality this morning.’
"Shouldn’t they be Snake Cubs? Why are they eggs?" Si Shuo was still terrified by the close call, but now she was also curious. She tugged on Ji Liang’s arm and stared at the white eggs. ’They really do look like Snake Eggs.’
Gong You let out a low chuckle. "Perhaps it was the effect of the Qing-Sheng Flower. It might have caused the cubs to be born in their most primal form. Snake Beastmen don’t just have the appearance of a Snake Beast; they’re also born from eggs."
Si Shuo blinked her eyes and looked at Ji Liang. "Ji Liang, do you know how to incubate eggs?"
Ji Liang had calmed down by now. He wrapped an arm around her, amused. "I have some inherited knowledge on the subject. However, the temperature is low during the rainy season and the coldest season, and on top of that, I have an Ice Ability. So, I’ll need the help of Heat Storage Stones to keep the nest’s temperature stable. I’ll have to guard the nest the entire time and constantly sense the temperature."
Si Shuo pressed her lips together and nodded. She gently touched one of the Snake Eggs, only to see it roll a tiny bit away from her. Unconvinced, she touched the other one, which also recoiled from her touch as if in disgust.
Ji Liang smiled and patted Si Shuo’s head. "The cubs were probably terrified just now. They still haven’t gotten over the shock."
Si Shuo quickly offered a sincere apology to the two eggs. "My babies, I’m so sorry. Mother was still groggy from sleep and didn’t even realize I’d given birth to my two adorable cubs.
"Your shells are so beautiful—so white and big! Mother only wanted to eat you because I liked you so much..."
Seeing the Snake Eggs tremble again, she slapped her forehead. "Well, you can’t blame Mother for craving eggs! It’s your Father! He’s always finding me delicious things to eat. And you two, even when you were in Mother’s belly, you had very particular tastes.
"All four of us share the responsibility for this! Mother will absolutely, positively never mistake my babies again.
"Please forgive Mother this one time, okay? Don’t be afraid. Mother is still very gentle and pretty..."
Ji Liang, having been dragged into the mess, sighed helplessly. ’You can’t hit her, you can’t scold her. All you can do is spoil your mate.’
The other males turned their heads away, their shoulders shaking with silent laughter. ’Their mate is so shameless she could probably block the wind with her nerve.’
"Little Shushu, you just gave birth. Your body is still weak. Go back to the room first. I’ll have you take a Crystal Stone, and then I’ll go incubate the eggs." Ji Liang took Si Shuo’s hand and led her toward their room.
After she swallowed a Level Sixteen attributeless Crystal Stone, Si Shuo’s postpartum recovery was complete.
Ji Liang prepared the nest. He laid down thick Beast Skins, placed a circle of Heat Storage Stones around the perimeter, and carefully set the two Snake Eggs in the center. Then, he shifted into his Beast Form and coiled himself around them.
Si Shuo stayed by his side and asked quietly, "Ji Liang, how long will you have to incubate them?"
Ji Liang let out a hissing laugh. "About ten days, I think." Then he asked curiously, "Little Shushu, did you really not feel anything at all when you were laying the eggs?"
Si Shuo’s face flushed red. ’How could I not have felt anything?’ Could she possibly admit that, in her dream, she thought she was just... passing the Snake Eggs? ’Where would my dignity be then?’
All she could say was that laying Snake Eggs was surprisingly easy. They just sort of... popped out. So easy, in fact, that it had caught her completely by surprise...
