Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 136: The Stonefang Pack at the gate
Visha’s eyes narrowed when she heard that someone was at the gate. The pack members made their way to the gate, unsure of who it was. If they were the people from before who wanted to talk, they were not sure what to do.
Through a narrow gap in the gate, they could see who was outside. According to the scout on top of the gate, they were not sure who the people were. There were quite a number of them. There were some in loincloth, some wrapped tightly, some in fur. All in all, there appeared to be different groups.
"We will not invite them in. The three of us will go out to face them," Uri said.
The pack members began to disagree, but Uri held up a hand, stopping them.
"They will not leave, so we must go out."
A heavy silence fell as the gate opened. Of course, it was not opened completely. They could not afford these strange people entering their home. It was only open wide enough for the trio to step outside to confront the people.
As soon as they stepped outside, aggressive faces appeared. Not everyone was aggressive. It was clear that those who were not aggressive were waiting for the aggressors to make their move before they made theirs.
"Where’s Lyra?" came a growl.
Visha raised an eyebrow. These must be people from the Stonefang Pack. They actually came looking for Lyra. She took in the faces of the Stonefang Pack and the faces of those standing on the side.
Xeno was already waiting for someone to strike. His posture appeared relaxed; however, the way his muscles coiled made those who were knowledgeable aware that he could pounce at any moment. Uri, as always, held a cold gaze. His posture was even more subdued.
"Who’s Lyra?" Visha questioned innocently. "And who are you?"
"My child," the man yelled. "You disgusting people took my daughter. Give her back."
Visha, Uri, and Xeno’s eyes darted to the man. It only took a second, but they were able to match the description with the actual face. And from what they were seeing, Lyra looked nothing like this man.
I think you’re right, she isn’t his daughter. Visha couldn’t help sending a mind link.
Xeno nodded imperceptibly to show his agreement.
"I don’t think we have anyone named Lyra here. Do we?" She asked Uri and Xeno. Both men shook their heads.
"Don’t lie. You took her from our Stonefang Pack and won’t let her leave!"
If the trio didn’t know any better, they would think the man suffered great injustice and genuinely wanted to find his daughter. But they knew differently. This was most likely a ploy the Stonefang Pack employed to enter the caldera or to force Lyra out.
"Stonefang Pack?" Visha said, with a face that showed she was thinking. "Yes, yes, we did save someone from the Stonehang Pack. She was covered in blood and begging us to save her life. Is that your daughter?"
"You say you are from the Stonefang Pack, yet your daughter is being targeted by the Stonefang Pack. That does not fit the narrative. Aslo the girl we rescued clearly told us her parents were being held hostage. How did you get?" Uri asked. "Are you really her Ba?"
The man’s sneer made his already unpleasant face even worse. "You don’t need to care about my daughter, just bring that bitch out."
"I don’t think," Xeno said with finality.
Another man spoke, "So you admit you have his daughter?"
Uri met the man’s malicious gaze. "As we have said before, the person we met was running from your Stonefang Pack, and according to her, her parents are being held. How can you say she is this man’s daughter?"
Uri waved his hand dismissively. "If you have nothing else to say, then leave."
"You-," the man snarled.
"If you aren’t here to fight, go away. We don’t have time for you," Xeno asserted.
The man claiming to be Lyra’s father put his hand on the other man’s shoulder, shaking his head. It was obvious they were not here for a fight; they were here for information. Lyra did not go back. They wanted to know whether she was alive or if something happened.
Those on the sidelines would occasionally make small sounds, whether of affirmation or contempt, the parties involved did not care to question.
From the trio’s response, they found out that Lyra was still alive.
Lyra’s father said, "Just let me go in to see my daughter."
At that moment, the gate opened. Once again, it was not opened all the way. Two figures emerged, Lyra and Cato.
Lyra’s father stepped forward, but Cato blocked him.
Their eyes met, and Cato and the man were locked in battle. Neither of them let their gaze falter. The standoff lasted more than a minute when Lyra popped her head out from behind Cato, which made the man’s gaze falter.
"Lyra," he called out immediately. He reached out his hand, trying to go around Cato.
Cato gripped his hand and flung him back towards the Stonefang members.
"Who the fuck are you? Move!" Lyra’s father said.
Cato did not respond, only keeping his stand firm.
"I’m not going anywhere with you," came Lyra’s voice. "I’ve joined their pack, and there isn’t anything you can do about it."
Lyra moved from behind Cato, her eyes wide with unshed tears. "You lied to me. You told me I had to spy on them or they would kill you. If I didn’t accidentally find out you were fine, would you have told me?"
The question wasn’t answered. The man stood there, looking at Lyra as though she was shit, stuck to the bottom of his foot.
"I’m your Ba. You don’t have the right to question me."
"Wrong. I have every right. Especially since you aren’t my Ba." Lyra dropped the sentence as though it were certain. It was said before, but they had no way to confirm. The only way to know is to have him confirm. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
The falter in his step told everyone what they needed to know. And Lyra, who saw the hesitation, couldn’t help but launch herself forward. Instinct took over, and she lunged for his throat.
Cato pulled her back before she could do any damage.
Visha sent a mind link to the pack to open the gate for Cato and Lyra to go back inside. She motioned to Cato to quickly take Lyra back inside.
The reason she did this was because of her beast. As soon as Lyra launched her attack, it told her she needed to get Lyra away from everyone. She scanned Lyra briefly and found the reason for the urgency.
So she made a quick decision to send her back in. She also sent a mind link to Cato, letting him know to keep her away from the rest of the pack.
After doing so, she rubbed the space between her eyes.
