Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 147: Losing his beast
Finding it suspicious that they were willing to give up so easily, Visha couldn’t help but ask. "Is there something you aren’t telling us?"
Crosvil’s daughter was standing beside them, and she was also curious as to why they had given up so easily. She glanced at Xen,o who had not looked at her way. She was unhappy, but there was nothing she could do.
Crosvil pursed his lips. He appeared unsure if he should say anything. Then he thought that they would be a pack. If he wanted to be accepted, he needed to come clean.
"Our tribe has been having issues. I am not sure why this is happening. It began last winter. The animals migrated, and our priest has been having trouble with the rituals. They have been having the opposite of their intended effect. What’s worse are the males in the tribe."
He swallowed and took a breath before continuing. "They have been losing their senses. They can still shift, but they have become much weaker than they used to be. You asked why I wasn’t able to scent him. It is because I can’t. I don’t have the keen sense of smell that I used to."
"The howl changed that. It is not as powerful as it used to be, but it caused the change in our tribe to slow down." Crosvil saw the astonished look on his daughter’s face. "The males decided they would not tell the females. If we cannot provide and protect, what is the point? But we didn’t want to lose our females."
The trio listened as he spoke. They had no idea. If this is really happening to the Cheetah tribe, then it might be happening to others. They thought of their own people and whether they had noticed any such symptoms. They couldn’t say they had.
They also wondered whether taking in the Cheetah tribe would be good for them. What use are people who cannot help them? Still, they have come this far; they would not abandon them. If they truly came to think of them as the same pack, there might be a way to help them.
This was the kind of conversation they were having through their link. They wanted to ensure they were all on the same page before they spoke.
After overcoming their shock, Uri spoke. "If you truly want to be a part of the pack, we are willing to accept. But your tribe needs to accept that you are no longer the leader. You must let your females know what is happening to you. If there are any who wish to leave, you must let them leave. Do not force them to stay. Their choices are their own."
"As for those who choose to stay, we will find a way help you. When you have decided, someone from our pack will take the ones who want to leave to the gate."
After forming a pack bond, Visha would perform another cleansing ritual. She would follow just as she had before to see whether it would yield the same result. If it did, then they would have their explanation. If it did not, they would need to explain verbally.
Visha halfheartedly hoped that the cleansing ritual would be able to help them free themselves of the burden they carried about not being as powerful as they were before. She didn’t ask them to give their secrets simply to unburden themselves.
This was a matter she would need to explain to those who chose to stay.
After Crosvil left, Roc came up to them, followed by a few of his clan members who were flanked by the Warm Pack members.
They had kept Roc and his companions out of earshot of their conversation with Crosvil. Only when they left did they allow them to approach.
"Have you decided?" Xeno asked, his face impassive.
None fot he three had the best impression of the Ram tribe. They were just as disrespectful as the Boar tribe. The only difference is that they let the Boar tribe take the fall for their disrespect.
Visha was sure that Roc was aware of how unruly Alin was. In her mind, Roc had a lot to do with their behaviour behind the scenes. However, she was also clear that Alin did not have to go along with whatever Roc planned. Since he was willing to stand out, he needed to accept the consequences.
"Some of our people have decided to stay. The rest will go back to our tribe," Roc stated, unfazed by Xeno’s attitude. "I will be staying as well."
Uri raised an eyebrow, "Are you certain you want to do that? Our pack does not accept betrayal. If you decide to join, it will mean you and your previous tribe have no connection. If you did not bring your family, it would mean you can only visit. Are you certain of your choice?"
Uri was not threatening him. He was simply giving a warning. If Roc chose to heed his warning, then he would be fine. If not...
"No need to worry. We are joining your pack willingly. Whether I will need to visit late, it doesn’t matter."
A smirk played on Uri’s lips. He wanted to see if he would be able to say the same after going through the pack bond.
"Since you are determined, those who will not stay will be escorted away. As for the rest, they will stay."
Uri made a gesture to have Roc and his entourage go back to their tribe members.
"I don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth," Xeno grunted.
"Same," Visha replied.
"We do not need to trust him. We only need to use him as an example," Uri responded, his small smirk still on his face.
Shaking her head, Visha decided to leave. She needed to prepare for the cleansing ritual and the pack bond. She needed to make contingencies. If she was right, the pack bonding night would be exciting.
