Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 167: Fight Night
Visha laughed seeing Alin being hung upside down by the vine, but there was still another challenge on the way.
Uri lunged forward to retrieve Alin from the vine, but before he could arrive, another vine struck out of nowhere. This vine was not as thin as the one holding Alin. This one was as thick as an arm and covered in barbs. It whipped down from a canopy above.
The sound of it whizzing through the air showed how quickly it was moving. If Uri had not been fast enough, the vine might have completely pierced him. He was able to dodge, but not quickly enough. The vine left a deep gouge on his shoulder.
He hissed at the feeling and stepped back.
Xeno moved, lunging towards the plant the vine belonged to. It was a shrub with dark green leaves. Xeno ran towards the shrub as the vine whipped out to pierce him. Knowing from experience that they are unable to cause significant damage, he dodged.
The vine circled, catching Xeno on the leg. In a fit of rage, Xeno grabbed the vine, injuring his hands in the process. Using his claws, he slashed the vine. Unexpectedly, the vine shrieked. Xeno was fast enough and able to see the reason.
The place he had clawed the shrub was injured. A green liquid oozed out of the shrub.
"These can get hurt!" Xeno exclaimed.
Hearing that, Uri and Visha looked over. They saw the injury on the plant. Seeing this, a feeling of hope welled up inside them. Alin was still being held upside down by the vine, but they did not feel so hopeless anymore.
Before they had the chance to rejoice in being able to hurt one of the plants. A deep groaning sound was heard. This was not a single plant. This was something else.
The vine that had been holding Alin abruptly let him go.
The ground began to shake. The four looked at the ground under their feet that was beginning to break. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"Run!" Xeno yelled.
He scooped up Visha and took off running. Uri followed close behind, followed by Alin. The creak of the ground and the sound of fighting echoed behind them. None of them looked back to see what was happening.
The loud sound of chewing was heard. Visha swallowed. She wanted to know what was happening. Since she was not running, she dared to look over Xeno’s shoulder to peek.
What she saw made her jaw drop open. A myriad of plants, shrubs, and trees...were eating each other. Plants clashed, pierced, cut, and clanged against each other. The myriad of plants became a hill, biting and crashing into each other.
Green, black, blue, Visha could see several colours coming from the plants. She wondered if there was a reason. She even wanted to take a sample to study, but now was not the time for that. The same plants that were eating each other are also following them.
"We need to move faster, they’re coming!" Visha shouted. "Put me down, I’ll run on my own."
Xeno didn’t listen and continued running.
The plants were getting more frenzied as they ran. The path they followed before suddenly disappeared. Visha couldn’t help asking herself why the plants were acting like this. Is it because of the plant they hurt?
When one gets hurt, the plants fight for who gets to eat it. Is that what’s happening?
This was the only explanation she could come up with. She was truly unsure why this was happening. All she knew was that their lives were at stake.
The path set by the plants previously began to crumble. More and more plants started to fight, creating more open spaces for the four to run through.
Along the way, Visha quietly used the rite. She could not do a large-scale rite at the moment because she was still weak, but it was enough to keep the plants around them from acting aggressively towards them until they made it past.
She felt Xeno’s arm tighten around her the first time she used it. She knew he knew. But he said nothing. Now was not the time for them to argue. Getting to safety was of utmost importance.
"There," Uri said, as they ran. Between two plants that had just begun their rampage, a building appeared.
It was a strange sight to see. There were no plants in or on the building, yet they surrounded it. If the rampage hadn’t started, they might not have been able to see it.
As soon as Uri pointed it out, they ran towards it.
However, as soon as they were close enough, plants came to block their path.
"Put me down," Visha said. "I’ll be fine."
Xeno knew he couldn’t keep holding her. They needed to fight their way to safety. No sooner had he let her go than the plants attacked. The sounds of roars echoed.
Visha was a bit unsteady on her feet. The use of the rite so many times without rest had taken its toll on her. Now she had to fight, and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could stand.
Nonetheless, she did not want to be a burden to everyone. Her footsteps swayed. Her vision began to darken. Still, she shook her head, determined to ensure safety. She only needed to last long enough for them to make it through.
She tried to breathe through it.
Uri and Xeno saw her predicament and said nothing. Both moved closer to her to protect her. Even if they were injured, they did not want anything to happen to Visha. As for Alin, he could fight on his own.
The plants began to circle. They did not attack. It was as though they were testing. What? They did not know. But since the plants did not attack, Visha could take time to rest. Even have 1% extra fighting power, it was better than having none.
She breathed, steadying herself. She surveyed the plants, wanting to find an exit. But the hoard was still fighting each other. Only this particular set of plants paid no attention to anything and wanted to stop them.
