Becoming Enkidu in DxD-Chapter 303: Daki
Chapter 71 — Daki
Upper Moon Six — Daki.
Daki was no ordinary demon. She was part of the infamous twin siblings who shared the title of Upper Moon Six. Her brother, Gyutaro, usually resided hidden within her body, only emerging when Daki was in danger—or when she summoned him.
The ribbon in the footage was unmistakable—one of the manifestations of Daki’s Obi Blood Demon Art.
Daki could shape parts of her body into ribbons that acted independently, capable of moving and attacking freely under her control, even from a distance.
Worse still, those ribbons could absorb humans into them—storing their bodies in an inner dimension, transporting them through hidden passages, and keeping them alive until Daki chose to feast.
At Angel’s Stairway, two of the five missing women had vanished while still on duty. Now, seeing that same ribbon slithering through the security footage, everything finally made sense.
Those ribbons had their own consciousness. For an ordinary human, encountering even one of them would mean instant death.
Victims wouldn’t even have the chance to scream before being absorbed—swallowed whole, their existence erased without a trace.
And since those ribbons could move independently and disguise themselves as decorative fabric, no one would have suspected a thing.
Akira leaned closer to the screen, his eyes narrowing.
"So... I’ve finally found you."
A faint smirk curved his lips.
Once the unknown became known, fear lost its power.
Now that he had identified the demon behind this, it was only a matter of time before he crushed her.
Though Upper Moon Six was technically the weakest among the Upper Moons, Daki and Gyutaro were unlike any other demons—they were two beings sharing one existence.
Gyutaro, the elder brother, was the true powerhouse. Daki, the younger sister, possessed elegance and cunning, but her strength alone sat between the ranks of the Lower and Upper Moons.
Together, however, they formed a perfect symbiosis.
Unless both their heads were severed at the exact same time, they could not be killed.
Akira exhaled slowly.
The faint sound of movement beside him drew his attention—his slight shift had been enough to wake Yukinoshita Haruno, who stirred from her light sleep.
Her lashes fluttered, and she blinked drowsily. Haruno had barely slept these past few days, tormented by the thought that a demon might strike at any moment.
Now, with Akira’s presence beside her, that tension had finally begun to fade.
Unconsciously, she had come to associate him with safety—with trust.
"...What time is it?" she murmured, still half-asleep.
Akira glanced at his watch. "Twelve fifteen. Sleep well?"
"Mm... surprisingly, yes." Haruno stretched lazily, her eyes half-lidded. Then, as her senses returned, she realized exactly where she had been resting—her head still on Akira’s lap.
Her face flushed crimson.
"Thank you, Akira-chan. I didn’t think a man’s lap would make such a comfortable pillow."
Her teasing tone returned—part habit, part effort to mask her embarrassment. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Hmm," Akira replied with a faint grin. "Next time, it’s my turn to use your lap."
"Oh? Just a lap pillow? We could do something... far more intimate than that, you know~"
Haruno leaned closer, her sultry voice brushing against his ear. Her warm breath sent a faint shiver down his spine as her body pressed lightly against his.
Akira chuckled quietly, his hand slipping around her slender waist.
Their faces were close now—so close their breaths mingled, only inches apart.
"Careful, Onee-san," he whispered, his tone low and dangerous. "I’m not exactly the herbivore type. Keep teasing me like that, and I really will eat you."
"Y-You...! L-Let me go!" Haruno stammered, her composure breaking.
Akira released her, smirking as she pulled away in a flustered panic.
Her face was bright red as she caught her breath. For all her experience in playful seduction, Haruno hadn’t expected him to turn the tables so easily.
Sure, she often teased him just to see his reactions—but this time, he’d struck back in kind, leaving her heart pounding in genuine panic.
Even now, the blush refused to fade from her cheeks.
"Eh? This ribbon..." she muttered, suddenly noticing the frozen frame on the laptop screen beside them.
The image showed a zoomed-in still from the surveillance feed—a pink ribbon with a net-like pattern dangling eerily from the corner.
"The owner of this ribbon," Akira said quietly, "is none other than Daki—Upper Moon Six."
"Upper Moon Six?" Haruno echoed, her voice tense.
"Yes. She’s a female demon who uses ribbons as extensions of her body. Each one can act like a clone and absorb people into it."
"So... the five missing women were all absorbed into those ribbons and kidnapped?"
"Exactly. Daki’s... selective, though." Akira’s tone turned grim. "She only targets beautiful women. She believes only the most attractive have the ’richest flavor’—that only they’re worthy of being eaten."
Haruno’s brow twitched. "She only eats beautiful women? What a twisted sense of taste."
"Well," Akira replied dryly, "most demons are mentally unhinged. Comes with the territory of serving Muzan."
All demons, after all, carried traces of Muzan Kibutsuji’s blood. That corruption didn’t just alter their bodies—it warped their minds.
And though most demons lost their memories of being human, Daki and Gyutaro were different.
They remembered everything—every shred of their human life.
They had become demons not by choice, but in desperation, standing on the brink of death. That was when Doma, then holding the title of Upper Moon Six, appeared before them.
For reasons unknown, he shared his blood with them—transforming the dying siblings into demons.
Since then, aside from Kokushibo, the Upper Moon One, only Daki and Gyutaro had retained their human memories completely.
And unlike others, they had never regretted becoming demons.
"...So what’s your plan?" Haruno asked finally, her tone serious again.
They might know the culprit, but finding her in a city the size of Chiba—with millions of people and endless shadows—was no easy feat.
But Akira only smiled faintly.
Daki had a habit. She liked to keep her "food" in storage—capturing beautiful women and sealing them alive within her ribbons.
That way, whenever hunger struck, she could simply pick one to devour.
The pattern of the disappearances told Akira everything he needed to know. The victims weren’t dead—they were being kept somewhere, waiting to be eaten.
And right now... there just so happened to be one "beautiful woman" sitting beside him.
His gaze slowly shifted toward Yukinoshita Haruno.
The moment their eyes met, Haruno felt a chill run down her spine.
"...Wait. Don’t tell me you’re planning to use me as bait?"
Akira grinned. "Impressive. As expected of the Yukinoshita family’s eldest daughter—you catch on quickly."
"Oh, thank you so much," she said flatly. "Really appreciate that."
"If we want to catch a wolf," Akira said, his tone calm and deliberate, "we’ll have to sacrifice a lamb. And right now, Haruno... you’re the only suitable bait we have."
"You—"
For a moment, she wanted to shout at him.
I asked for your help, and now you’re offering me up as bait?! You call yourself my fiancé?!
But despite the anger boiling in her chest, Haruno bit back her words. Her upbringing and pride wouldn’t allow her to lose composure.
"...Fine," she said finally, exhaling softly. "I’ll be your bait."
Her tone carried a touch of sarcasm—but also resolve.
Because deep down, she knew there was no other option.
Almost no one else knew the truth about demons, and this was her establishment. She couldn’t run from the responsibility.
And if using herself was what it took to save her people—then she would do it.
