Becoming the Wasteland Overlord With My Harem System!-Chapter 248: Queen Competition (1)
Back in the castle, inside the dining hall, all the girls had gathered.
Eve, Arianne, Maria, Cherry, Beatrix, Fenrir, Teruria, and Ethernina were present, sitting around the long table, with Axel at the head. Even Navi and Mimir were in the corner, flirting with each other.
"So, as previously arranged, the marriage to Sir Axel and the founding of the Kingdom will be set for the 15th day of the tenth month; that’s exactly four days from now," Beatrix continued.
While they ate, the meeting went on.
Their primary topic was the main "task" at hand: to establish the "royal family" that would lead the Axevaria Kingdom. What about the other minor items on the agenda, like the guilds? Those items were pushed to the end and placed low on the priority list.
"For that, we need to decide on the order," she emphasized. "Who will be the first queen, the second, and so on?"
"Of course, Master’s Luna will be me," Fenrir claimed confidently.
"I—I need to be the first queen to revive the bloodline of our former kingdom. Even if it’s you, Fenrir, I can’t just nod!" Eve countered.
"Me too! Me too! I want to be the first wife!" Ria exclaimed, raising her hand with a drumstick in it, her mouth messy with oil. "Being the first sounds wonderful, after all! And technically, I was his first among the three of us, right, Sir Axel...?"
Suddenly addressed, Axel leered. "Hey, don’t drag me into your problems..."
If left to his decision, he would just declare all three of them as first wives. He believed that having "rankings" would complicate the internal dynamics later on.
However, the girls themselves quickly dismissed his suggestion.
They apparently couldn’t accept a situation without a first, second, and so on queen for the kingdom. There "must" be some kind of ranking.
The three "wives" who were set to marry him in four days were all in disagreement. None of them wanted to forfeit the title of first wife.
"I’m the strongest, so I am the Luna!"
"No way! Being the queen isn’t all about strength; it’s about leadership!"
"If I’m the first queen, I can make everyone obey! Doesn’t that make me the best fit~?"
Their discussion continued for several minutes and grew quite heated. It seemed to have no end, so Beatrix had to step in to mediate.
"Alright, the three of you," she said. "Why don’t we settle this with a competition then?"
Fenrir grinned. "A fight? I’m up for it. I don’t mind you all ganging up together either."
"Fufu~!"
Beatrix chuckled at the confident response before shaking her head.
"If we were fighting for the position of war general, that might be a valid measure, but that’s not the case. "We’re competing for the title of First Queen." She clarified. "In other words, we need to evaluate your qualifications as a queen."
Axel, who was listening from the sidelines, couldn’t help but shiver. He swallowed his food as he glared at Beatrix, who looked like she was having fun out of all this.
’I... don’t like where this is headed.’
"Thus, for the next two days, counting from tomorrow, we will be holding the very first Axevaria Kingdom’s Who is the Best Queen Contest~!"
"I knew it..." Axel sighed.
Of course, it wasn’t hard to imagine what sort of trouble this suggestion would bring.
...
After spending the night with the two witches, Axel managed to get only about four hours of sleep. While this was far from sufficient for a full recovery, it was still better than nothing.
"Master, it’s time to wake up. You still have a lot of things to do in your itinerary."
"Sir Axel, if you don’t get up, I’ll be joining you in bed again~!"
"M-My King... It’s time for your morning duties."
"Huh...?"
Upon waking up, Axel found himself in a bizarre situation.
Beside the bed stood three familiar figures: Fenrir, Teruria, and Eve. However, what flabbergasted him was not just their words but rather their appearance. "Why maids?"
All three were dressed in outfits reminiscent of what Maria and Cherry typically wore—black and white standard maid uniforms. Yet, each had a unique twist to their attire.
Eve’s uniform was the closest to traditional. She wore a long skirt that reached her ankles, complemented by a white maid cap and a long-sleeved dress paired with black gloves. She resembled the perfect, stern maid—though her embarrassed expression undermined that image.
Next was Ria, whose outfit was far less "demure" than Eve’s. Her dress featured shorter sleeves that extended only halfway down her shoulders. She wore no gloves, and her skirt reached her knees. High boots, similar to her usual style, completed her look, creating a quirky yet cute appearance.
Then there was Fenrir, who took the cake for the most provocative attire. Her outfit resembled something from a maid café—not the standard kind, but rather the ones requiring age verification for entry.
Her bubbly skirt was just millimeters away from revealing what lay beneath, while her dress featured a wide, open back and a deep front slit, barely containing her ample assets.
Axel stared at the three in silence, quickly realizing the nature of the situation. "So this is the competition Beatrix came up with?" he asked, his voice sounding resigned.
"Y-Yes, My King," Eve replied, feeling awkward not just from her attire but also from the way she addressed Axel.
"For fairness, the metrics of the competition won’t be revealed to you until it ends. But until then, the three of us will be working as your personal maids and secretaries."
Ria raised her hand excitedly, jumping in place. "Just give us tasks to do, and we’ll do it for you~!"
"Basically, we’re Master’s slaves for the next two days. You can ask us to do A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G~," Fenrir added with a wink and a light tug at the collar of her dress.
"Hey, Fenrir, that’s cheating!" Ria countered. "If you’re going to be like that, then I too...!"
Without warning, Ria jumped onto the bed and toward Axel, hugging him. She buried her face against his side, almost like a cat leaving her scent on him—as if she wasn’t already filled with his scent from the previous night.
After that, Ria raised her head and smiled innocently. "Ehehe~!"
"T-That’s unfair...!" Eve commented but remained principled. "Remember, direct seduction leads to score deductions!"
"Ehhh? I’m not seducing him, am I?" Ria grinned, feigning ignorance.
"Hmph... We’re just warming Master up so he can wake up faster." Even Fenrir landed on the other side of Axel, pressing her chest against his arms.
Eve looked like she wanted to join in too but held back. Axel could see her bitter expression, almost as if she was intentionally losing the fight to win the war.
’Secret? Fairness? With your actions, the metrics are basically obvious to me now...’
Axel sighed internally.
He knew by then that his next two days would be the longest 48 hours he’d need to survive.
