Chapter 107: Chapter 107: He Left After All

Nina Thorne wanted to leave, but her feet felt as if they were filled with lead, refusing to move.

The person inside was still pressing her advantage.

"I can tell you still care about me."

"I had something to deal with last night, but you still rushed to see me. You obviously care so much..."

April Graham’s voice was soft and seductive. "Justin, divorce her. I want to marry you."

Nina Thorne clenched her fists tightly.

Though her spine was straight, she felt an immense weight pressing down on her, threatening to bend her in two.

’So last night, he went to see April Graham. That’s why he came home late and left early.’

’He’s so anxious and attentive when it comes to April Graham. He must be head over heels for her, right?’

But some part of her was unwilling to accept it, and she remained standing outside the door, unable to leave.

A moment later, Justin Kane’s deep, magnetic voice drifted out from inside. "This is what you want me to do?"

"Yes. I love you, and I can’t just stand by and watch you with another woman." There was an undisguisable arrogance in April Graham’s voice.

"I want you to divorce her."

"Alright."

Justin Kane’s detached voice held no hesitation.

"Really?"

April Graham’s expression was ecstatic. "Then I’ll wait for you to divorce her, and we’ll get married right away."

"..."

Hearing that one word, the world spun, and a wave of dizziness washed over Nina Thorne.

She was utterly devastated. She couldn’t hear another word they were saying inside.

’She suddenly understood. Everything Justin Kane had said before was just to placate her.’

’Claiming his beloved wasn’t April Graham... it was all just empty words to brush her off.’

In an instant, it felt as if her heart was being ripped in two, the pain so intense she couldn’t bear to stay a moment longer.

She certainly didn’t want to stay here and play the fool, hearing him cast her aside for another woman with her own ears.

Biting her lip hard to keep from collapsing, Nina Thorne braced herself against the wall and staggered away from the hospital.

It was a long time before she, sitting in her car, finally found enough strength to start the engine and drive away.

On the road, she remembered to call Master Thorne and tell him she would come to see him another day.

But she drove aimlessly, with no desire to return to the villa.

She had no choice but to call Macy Lynch, forcing her voice to remain calm as she asked, "Are you busy?"

Despite her efforts, her voice still choked.

Macy Lynch sounded alarmed. "Are you crying? I just finished up and was about to head home. What’s wrong?"

Nina Thorne suddenly felt like a rudderless ship that had just found a safe harbor.

Her nose stung with the urge to cry. It was too much to explain over the phone. "I’m coming over," she said, her voice thick with tears.

"Okay."

After Macy Lynch agreed, Nina Thorne changed lanes at the intersection and drove toward Macy Lynch’s home.

Macy arrived five minutes before she did.

The moment Macy opened the door, she was shocked to see how deathly pale Nina was.

"You look awful! What on earth happened?"

Nina Thorne had always been the type to endure in silence.

But after hearing that single sentence of concern, she couldn’t hold it in any longer. She threw herself into Macy Lynch’s arms, silent tears streaming down her face.

Macy Lynch closed the door, hugged her tight, and patted her back again and again to comfort her.

Her crying was so quiet, yet it radiated such profound sadness that Macy couldn’t help her own eyes from welling up.

"Go on and cry. You’ll feel better after you let it out," Macy Lynch said, her own voice wavering.

They had known each other since middle school.

Nina Thorne was the daughter of a wealthy family, as radiant and noble as a rose. She seemed cold and aloof, but she was righteous and kind at heart.

Throughout their six years of middle and high school, it was only thanks to Nina Thorne’s help that she avoided being bullied and was able to get into college.

They were more than just best friends.

In her heart, Macy had long considered Nina a true sister.

Nina Thorne cried quietly for a while until the tightness in her chest eased a bit, and then she told Macy Lynch what had happened at the hospital.

"They really have a past? Justin Kane personally promised her he would divorce you?" Macy Lynch was incredulous.

She had always had an inexplicable trust in Justin Kane’s character.

It was hard to believe those words could have come from his mouth.

Nina Thorne grabbed a tissue to wipe her nose, her voice thick with tears. "I heard it with my own ears. There’s no mistake."

Tossing the tissue in the trash, she lifted her red, swollen eyes, a new resolve hardening in them.

"Macy, I’ll agree to the divorce."

Macy Lynch’s heart was in turmoil. "Aren’t you going to ask him about it?" she pleaded.

She always felt that Justin Kane treated Nina so well. It would be a shame for them to separate over a misunderstanding.

Nina Thorne’s heart felt like it was being sliced by a knife again and again, the pain making it hard to breathe. She shook her head decisively.

"I’m not asking. I don’t want to bring on my own humiliation."

Their marriage was a business alliance, with no emotional foundation.

’She was just glad she hadn’t let his gifts and all his little questions trick her into thinking he actually liked her.’

’All those suspicions had vanished into thin air.’

Seeing her like this, Macy Lynch knew her heart was broken and sighed helplessly.

"Okay. If you need any help, just ask."

After a pause, she added worriedly, "Do you want to move in with me for a while?"

Nina Thorne sniffled and shook her head with a faint smile. "No need. As it happens, I have to go to Vistara for a shoot in a couple of days."

’She could use this time to calm herself down.’

’By the time she came back, Justin Kane would probably ask for a divorce.’

Nina Thorne stayed for half the day. On the drive back to the villa, the producer called to confirm.

"Nina, have you thought it over? Are you really not coming with us to Vistara for the shoot?" the producer asked with a hint of hope.

This was because Nina had previously turned down the on-location shoot to stay in Sylport with Justin Kane.

The producer had wanted her to go, so he had asked her to reconsider.

Since they were about to leave for Vistara, he was calling to check one last time.

Nina Thorne changed her tune. "Okay, I’ll go with you."

The producer was overjoyed. Fearing she would change her mind, he said quickly, "Great! I’m booking the tickets right now, then."

Then, giving Nina Thorne no chance to have second thoughts, he immediately hung up.

Less than five minutes later, Nina Thorne received a text with her flight information.

The day after tomorrow, departing at ten in the morning.

Nina Thorne stepped on the gas.

Through the windshield was the bustling scenery of the Sylport Bridge, but her heart was heavy, and she was in no mood to appreciate it.

’Come to think of it,’ she mused, ’I really just keep falling from one pit into another.’

-

After returning to the villa, Nina Thorne started packing her luggage.

After she finished, she zipped up her suitcase and received a message from Justin Kane: "Mrs. Kane, have you eaten? Sorry, I couldn’t make it back to have dinner with you tonight."

Nina Thorne glanced at the time on her phone. It was almost eight.

In the past, if he wasn’t coming home, a message like this would have arrived before six.

Nina Thorne’s expression was calm as she typed a reply, "I’ve eaten. It’s fine."

"I’ll bring you a little cake when I get back."

Nina Thorne was skeptical.

Before April Graham came to Sylport, she wouldn’t have doubted anything he said.

But now, it was hard to say if he would even come back tonight.

But Nina Thorne felt she didn’t even have the right to be angry with him, so she sent a noncommittal reply.

Putting down her phone, she went into the bathroom to shower.

That night, perhaps because she hadn’t slept well the night before, combined with the day’s events, she was mentally and physically exhausted. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

She went to sleep early.

In the middle of the night, she heard a faint noise and woke up, slowly opening her eyes.

The dim yellow bedside lamp illuminated Justin Kane.

He was crouching by the bed, his deep, dark eyes fixed on her, so dark they seemed bottomless.

Nina Thorne’s heart skipped a beat.

’Is he going to bring up the divorce so soon?’

All sleepiness gone, Nina Thorne sat up and glanced at the digital clock on the bedside table. "You’re just getting back?"

It was almost twelve.

A faint weariness lingered between Justin Kane’s brows. "There was a sudden issue with the new energy project. It took a while to handle tonight, so I’m late."

Nina Thorne didn’t bother wondering if it was true. She forced a faint smile. "That must have been tough. So... is there something you want to say to me?"

Justin Kane’s lips curled slightly. "I brought you a little cake. Want some?"

Nina Thorne actually hadn’t eaten.

But she had no appetite and was about to shake her head and say no.

"It’s durian mousse."

Justin Kane suddenly picked up the mousse cake and held it out to her.

Nina Thorne stared, stunned for a few seconds, before looking at him in astonishment. "How did you know I like this flavor?"

Justin Kane’s dark eyes held a smile. "Mrs. Kane and I have a telepathic connection."

A bitter feeling welled up in Nina Thorne’s heart.

’He’s about to divorce me, yet he’s still saying these sweet things to me.’

’Of course.’

’Before, I was just being sentimental, thinking he had at least a tiny bit of affection for me.’

’Looking at it now, Justin Kane had always been treating me like that little girl from ten years ago, just coaxing me along.’

’Just as he said, he needed someone to marry.’

’A marriage partner that Mr. Kane wouldn’t oppose.’

’And I just happened to be suitable.’

Nina Thorne completely lost her appetite. She lowered her eyes coolly. "I don’t want it. I’m tired. I’m going to sleep."

She lay back down, glancing at him indifferently. "Is there something you wanted to tell me? If not, I’m going to sleep."

Justin Kane sensed her mood was off. He could see her cold attitude, and seeing her red-rimmed eyes, he couldn’t bear to disturb her.

"Okay, go to sleep."

Nina Thorne closed her eyes and went back to sleep.

Justin Kane got up and left the bedroom for the study.

Worried something was wrong with Nina Thorne, he called and instructed Assistant Cheney to investigate.

In less than ten minutes, Assistant Cheney called back to report.

"I heard Master Thorne suddenly fainted today and was hospitalized. The Madam went over this morning."

"But Master Thorne is fine. The Madam also met with Miss Lynch during the day, so it should be nothing serious. You can rest assured, President."

Justin Kane’s brows furrowed imperceptibly. "Which hospital?"

"Mercywell."

"Got it."

Justin Kane’s well-defined fingers ended the call, his expression grave, his brow furrowed.

He then returned to the bedroom and, in the dim yellow light, looked at Nina Thorne’s fair, peacefully sleeping face.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

He immediately swiped to answer, walking out of the bedroom as he spoke. "What is it?"

The bedroom door was left ajar.

Nina Thorne’s eyes snapped open. She got out of bed and padded barefoot to the back of the bedroom door.

Justin Kane took the call in the hallway, his voice extremely clear in the night. "If it hurts, take some medicine. Me coming over won’t make you better."

April Graham’s bold declaration of love leaked from the receiver. "I love you. As long as you’re by my side, I’ll feel much better."

"Without you, I’ll die."

Justin Kane’s tone was displeased. "I haven’t been around for all these years. How have you managed to live just fine?"

His words were met with April Graham’s extreme dissatisfaction. "I don’t care! I just want to see you."

She threatened, "If you don’t come, I’ll jump out the window, and you’ll never see me again for the rest of your life."

Nina Thorne clenched her fists, watching Justin Kane’s back through the crack in the door, a strange hope welling in her heart that he wouldn’t go.

But the next second...

Justin Kane glanced back at the bedroom, then quickly looked away and strode quickly downstairs.

’He left after all.’
