Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 115: The Fish Takes the Bait
Jessica Jenkins asked nervously, "What are you going to do?"
"Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t. It’s none of your business anyway."
Serena Kane’s vicious eyes were a clear warning. "Just do what you’re told. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you can’t survive in this industry."
"If you want to go back to being a broke nobody who gets walked all over, I can make that happen. I’ll just release those videos.
Not only will your reputation be ruined, but the career you’ve worked so hard to build will be destroyed in an instant."
It had to be said—Jessica Jenkins was scared.
She was sick of being poor.
Since Nina Thorne didn’t treat her like a friend, she had no reason to be merciful.
"I’ll pretend I don’t know anything. Don’t worry, Miss Kane." Jessica Jenkins took a deep breath and apathetically hung up.
Serena Kane snorted and hung up the phone.
Turning her head, she looked at the two burly men beside her. "When the time comes, give that bitch a good ’welcome’."
"And make sure you get clear pictures of her looking slutty. I want her to be utterly humiliated."
’The great heiress of the Thorne Family?’
’By then, Nina Thorne will be nothing but a slut who’s been defiled.’
’The humiliation she suffered at the banquet, the misery of being kicked out of the Kane Family—Nina Thorne will pay for it all!’
’Of course!’
’She would also let Nina Thorne know that Cole Kane wasn’t the savior she’d been grateful to for ten years.’
’She wanted to watch Nina Thorne’s face when she learned the truth and was suffering in agony after being defiled!’
-
Nina Thorne sat in the white minivan, watching as the vehicle drove up the mountain.
The mountain road was brightly lit by streetlights.
There were other cars ascending the mountain both in front of and behind them.
A black car, in particular, was following right behind them.
Nina Thorne pulled her gaze away and glanced at Cole Kane, asking coolly, "Where are we going?"
"There’s a nice resort up on a mountain here in Vistara. It has hot springs and, of course, a great view of the city at night."
Cole Kane looked at her hands, which were resting on her lap, his gaze softening into a gentle smile. "Most importantly, I heard there’s supposed to be a meteor shower tonight."
He reached over, trying to take her hand, but she coldly pulled it away.
"A meteor shower?" Nina Thorne’s tone was frigid, her brow furrowing slightly.
Cole Kane wasn’t annoyed. He said gently, "I remember you used to say that you wanted to watch a meteor shower and a supermoon together someday."
"The news said we should be able to see it around two in the morning."
Nina Thorne remembered this incident.
Three years ago, the news had reported an upcoming meteor shower and a supermoon.
Nina Thorne had been full of anticipation, even buying stargazing equipment.
But right before they were supposed to leave, he’d ditched her without a second thought because Serena Kane was suffering from period cramps.
The end result was him taking Serena Kane to the hospital.
And she was left waiting alone on the mountain for a long, long time...
She had called him in a rage, asking why he didn’t come.
Only to be berated by him.
’What was it he said again?’
’Oh, right. I remember now.’
"A meteor shower? A supermoon? What’s the point of looking at such pointless, useless things?"
"Nina Thorne, you’re just a spoiled little rich girl. You don’t care if other people live or die."
"Serena was in so much pain, and all you could think about was watching a meteor shower! You need to reflect on what you did wrong. Don’t call me again until you figure it out!"
Cole Kane had furiously hung up, his scolding voice both merciless and enraged.
’Thinking back on these past five years...’
’The disappointments were more than just this one incident.’
’They had accumulated day by day. She was constantly ignored...’
’It was being blamed and forced to apologize when she had done nothing wrong. It was a heart full of grievances with no one to tell.’
Nina Thorne secretly clenched her fists, the pain of her nails digging into her palms mirroring the feeling of her heart being crushed.
It wasn’t pain anymore. It was numbness. It was laughable.
A chill coursed through her body, a constant reminder of this man’s past cruelty.
"A meteor shower and a supermoon?"
Nina Thorne’s eyes grew even colder, the curve of her lips holding only iciness. "I used to beg you to watch them with me, and you just yelled at me. But now, you’ve arranged it all."
Cole Kane thought she was moved and was about to speak with a smile.
But then he heard Nina Thorne’s sarcastic voice. "Cole Kane, I never knew you could be so pathetic."
Cole Kane’s expression froze.
’She’s become so sharp-tongued.’
’Her words get harsher every time.’
But no matter how annoyed he felt, he forced himself to endure it, twitching his lips into a smile. "As long as I can earn your forgiveness, I’m willing to be even more pathetic."
Nina Thorne stared at him for a long moment with a half-smile, then coolly averted her gaze. "Alright, then. I won’t hold back."
After saying that, Nina Thorne turned her face away and fell silent.
Seeing her expression, Cole Kane felt that something was off.
’She seemed a bit unusual tonight, especially since she agreed so readily.’
But he quickly dismissed it as normal.
’Nina Thorne had always loved him; she’d loved him for five years.’
’For the past two months, she’d just been angry and throwing a tantrum.’
’Tonight, he would be on his best behavior and try to get back together with her.’
’Once he made the deed irreversible, he wouldn’t have to worry about losing the Thorne Family’s support.’
The vehicle continued up the mountain.
The driver suddenly said, "Second Young Master Kane, the car behind us seems to be following us."
Nina Thorne’s eyes widened abruptly.
Cole Kane glanced back through the rear windshield. It wasn’t just one black car following them.
A short distance behind the black car, there were two or three more.
Cole Kane wasn’t suspicious. "Plenty of people come to this resort. It’s normal. Keep driving; ignore them."
"Yes, Second Young Master Kane."
The driver continued up the mountain.
Nina Thorne’s expression relaxed, and she lowered her eyelids again.
A little over ten minutes later, they finally arrived at their destination.
Just as Cole Kane had described, the resort was nestled by the mountains and water. It was large, luxurious, and seamlessly integrated with a hot spring hotel.
At the entrance was an artificial rockery with a waterfall, which reflected a kaleidoscope of colors under the lights.
Mist swirled around the waterfall, creating a dreamlike and ethereal atmosphere.
Nina Thorne followed Cole Kane to a high, grassy area, which was spacious and lush with greenery.
He had his people set up the stargazing equipment, then dismissed them.
A table was laid out with fruit, fresh flowers, and red wine. Beside it were two comfortable lounge chairs.
It looked like he had put a lot of thought into the preparations.
’If the old Nina Thorne had seen this, she would have been pathetically moved to tears, thinking that this little bit of kindness meant he cared for and deeply loved her.’
’Unfortunately for him, the current her would not.’
Nina Thorne watched it all without a ripple of emotion in her heart. She sat down calmly in a lounge chair. "I never realized you had it in you to be this thoughtful."
Cole Kane poured two glasses of red wine and stood before her, offering one. "Have a drink. It would be a waste not to, with such a great view."
Nina Thorne took it but didn’t rush to drink.
Her gaze fell on the red liquid in the glass, and she could faintly see a layer of white foam floating on top.
"Cole Kane..."
Nina Thorne turned her head to watch him sit down in the lounge chair beside her.
Hearing his name, Cole Kane looked up and met her gaze. "What is it?"
Nina Thorne’s eyes were probing. "Tell me, if you hadn’t saved me ten years ago, we probably wouldn’t have had a future together, would we?"
A flicker of unease crossed Cole Kane’s face.
"Why bring that up all of a sudden?"
"Just curious."
Cole Kane frowned slightly, but he put on a calm expression. "Curious about what?"
"I’m just curious how it came to be that you were the one who saved me ten years ago."
Scenes from her drowning incident surfaced in Nina Thorne’s mind. She vaguely remembered that the boy who saved her wore half of a crescent jade pendant around his neck.
His clear, gentle voice had said, ’Don’t be afraid, I’m here,’ bringing a sense of peace.
"Silly girl, it all happened so long ago. Why bring it up?" Cole Kane laughed dotingly.
Nina Thorne stared at him. "Because I’m grateful to the boy who saved me that year. And haven’t you been reminding me lately that I should remember that debt of gratitude?"
Cole Kane was speechless.
He averted his eyes, feeling too guilty to meet her gaze.
’If he had any other choice, he wouldn’t want to bring this up at all.’
"Cole Kane, was it really you who saved me?" Nina Thorne pressed, refusing to let it go.
Cole Kane knew he couldn’t avoid it any longer and said with feigned helplessness, "Have you forgotten? You said it yourself back then—before you passed out, you saw that the person who saved you was wearing half of a crescent jade pendant."
"And I’m the only one who has that pendant."
After saying this, he was secretly relieved.
’Thankfully, the other half had already disappeared.’
Nina Thorne’s breath caught in her chest.
’It was true.’
’Back then, after she had recovered in the hospital, Cole Kane had been there with her, and he had been wearing that very half of the crescent jade pendant around his neck.’
’Could it be that Serena Kane had lied to her again?’
"Nina Thorne, let’s just drink. We don’t have to talk about the past," Cole Kane said, extending his wine glass to clink it against hers.
Nina Thorne looked at the white foam in her glass and nonchalantly took a few sips.
Seeing how cooperative she was, Cole Kane was secretly delighted.
He downed the wine in his glass in one gulp, then suddenly took out a velvet box, got up, and knelt on one knee before her.
He then opened the box and gazed at her with deep affection. "Nina Thorne, please give me another chance. Marry me. Let me take care of you, okay?"
Nina Thorne watched him coolly, a pang of bitterness striking her heart.
She had waited so many years for this proposal, yet he was only doing it now, after her heart had already died.
But even as he did it, his intentions were sinister.
Nina Thorne reached out, took the ring, and walked toward the cliff ahead.
Cole Kane followed behind her, asking in confusion, "What’s wrong?"
The next second,
Nina Thorne’s hand rose, tracing a perfect arc through the air.
She threw the ring, and it sailed over the cliff, disappearing without a trace into the night.
"Nina Thorne?" Cole Kane was stunned.
Nina Thorne walked up to him and said coldly, "Marry you? I’m not a recycling bin for trash."
With that, she turned to leave.
"Nina Thorne!"
Cole Kane watched her retreating back, a crimson glint slowly appearing in his eyes.
As Nina Thorne walked away, she suddenly stopped, clutching her forehead as her body began to sway.
Leaning on his cane, he hurried over and caught her just in time.
"You... you drugged the wine?"
Nina Thorne looked at him with shocked eyes, but her voice was weak and faint.
"If I didn’t do this, how else could I have you?"
A triumphant look appeared on Cole Kane’s face as his lips curved into a sinister smile. "Nina Thorne, you forced my hand. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of you. But this time, Justin Kane won’t be here to save you!"
He then threw his cane aside, scooped Nina Thorne into his arms, and rushed toward the room he had booked in advance.
His steps were steady and swift; he didn’t look like he had a limp at all.
Nina Thorne rested in his arms, seemingly unconscious.
But the next moment, her icy eyes snapped open, a glint of shrewd clarity flashing within their clear depths.
’The fish... really took the bait.’
