Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 121: My Wife
Nina Thorne felt his gaze and looked over. She heard Justin Kane give an order to someone on the other end of the line, "Find out who did this."
After hanging up, Justin Kane leaned in close again, his thin lips curling into a smirk. "Mrs. Kane is so clever. How did you guess correctly on your first try?"
Nina Thorne still looked bewildered. "Someone really tampered with it?"
"Mhm."
Justin Kane pinched her delicate chin, his deep eyes filled with a growing curiosity. "I remember Mrs. Kane studied engineering before..."
Nina Thorne’s expression tensed slightly.
She gently pushed him away and got up, walking toward the bedroom. "I was terrible at it. Nothing worth mentioning."
Watching her slender back, the look in Justin Kane’s eyes grew darker and more profound.
The next two days of shooting on set went smoothly for Nina Thorne.
Having worked together once before, the atmosphere was comparatively more harmonious this time.
After finishing the script revisions based on the director’s adjustments for the day, she planned to use the restroom and then leave.
A message came through on her phone.
JT: [Accompany me to a banquet tonight.]
[What banquet?]
[The Graham Family. Master Graham’s 80th birthday.]
’The Graham Family... isn’t that April Graham’s family?’
Nina Thorne hadn’t expected it to be so sudden.
She hesitated for a few seconds. [Is it appropriate for me to go?]
[Mrs. Kane, we have to go public sooner or later.]
Nina Thorne thought that made sense.
[Okay.]
After using the restroom, she was washing her hands.
Jessica Jenkins suddenly walked in, froze when she saw her, and just stood there, neither entering nor leaving.
Nina Thorne averted her gaze and dried her hands with a paper towel.
After a moment of intense internal struggle, Jessica Jenkins spoke timidly, "Miss... Miss Thorne."
She lowered her head, looking very reserved.
Nina Thorne gave a soft "mm" in acknowledgment, said nothing more, and left briskly.
Jessica Jenkins watched her leave, her brows furrowed tightly as an unreadable emotion surfaced.
It was still a bit early when Nina Thorne left the set, so she went to a supermarket near the hotel to browse and buy some snacks to eat while revising her script.
It was a habit of hers.
Her favorites were dried fruits and nuts.
She was picking things out in the snack aisle when she suddenly heard a strange noise.
She turned her head to look.
All of a sudden, she saw a shopping cart hurtling toward her, and at the same time, she was grabbed by a tall, sturdy figure.
The man had a sharp aura, and his eyes held the murderous glint of a war god.
Though ruggedly handsome, he exuded a "stay away" vibe.
Nina Thorne never expected to run into Jason Graham here.
If he hadn’t stopped that shopping cart in time, it would have slammed into her legs.
While it wouldn’t have been a serious injury, it would have hurt for quite a while.
"Watch out."
Jason Graham’s voice suddenly rang out as he reached over, pulled her toward him, and placed a large hand on her head.
Immediately after, a loud clattering sound erupted.
It sounded like something had fallen and smashed.
Nina Thorne was pressed against a broad, muscular chest. A cool, deep fragrance filled her nostrils—a pleasant scent brimming with masculine pheromones.
"You’re okay now."
A moment later, the hand on her head was removed, and he released her from his embrace.
Only then did Nina Thorne notice that a large amount of merchandise lay strewn haphazardly at their feet.
The sound from before made it clear.
If Jason Graham hadn’t shielded her, she would have been hit.
"Are you okay?"
Nina Thorne asked with concern, guessing he had used his own body to block the falling goods.
Jason Graham raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, his casual air tinged with a disdainful arrogance. "It takes more than this stuff to hurt me."
Nina Thorne was still worried. "Let’s go to the hospital for a check-up. I’ll cover the cost."
Jason Graham’s eyes were calm and deep like a secluded valley, his voice low yet powerful. "Afraid I’ll fleece you?"
Nina Thorne didn’t answer.
’Didn’t he do just that with the suit last time?’
However, when she had transferred him the money, he never accepted it.
She remained silent.
The supermarket manager rushed over, saw the scene, and immediately began to apologize to them.
When he recognized Jason Graham, a master of the Graham family, he broke out in a cold sweat.
If they angered this man, the supermarket might as well close down.
Nina Thorne assumed it was just caused by improperly stacked goods and didn’t think much of it.
Still, her expression was serious. "You’re lucky no one was hurt this time. But you need to pay more attention to safety. This can’t happen again."
"The young lady is right. We will definitely be more careful."
The manager’s attitude was excellent, and he even gave them a few gift cards.
Even though Nina Thorne refused, they were pressed into her hands.
After a moment’s thought, Nina Thorne offered them to Jason Graham. "You were the one who got hit. You should keep these."
Jason Graham shoved his hands into his pockets. His tall, burly frame was like a mountain as he looked down at her. "You think I care about this little bit of money?"
"..."
Nina Thorne felt like she’d just asked for the snub.
Especially standing in front of him, her nearly 1.7-meter frame was dwarfed, making her seem petite and delicate. The sense of pressure was immense.
The indescribable sense of danger kept Nina Thorne on her guard.
"Since President Graham won’t get a check-up and doesn’t want these, I’ll be leaving now." Nina Thorne said thank you again and turned to leave.
When she passed by Jason Graham’s assistant, she thought for a moment and stuffed the cards into his hand. "Buy your boss something to eat."
Special Assistant Dawson: "..."
It was only a few thousand yuan in total.
His boss spent more than that on toilet paper.
Jason Graham watched her retreating figure, the corner of his lip twitching. "How is she... still so cute?"
Special Assistant Dawson: ?
’Still... so... cute?’
"Sir, are you very familiar with Miss Thorne?"
He didn’t expect that question to earn him a sharp glare from Jason Graham. "Don’t ask what you’re not supposed to ask."
Special Assistant Dawson immediately fell silent, lowering his head and swallowing nervously.
Everyone said that Sylport’s Justin Kane was ruthless, decisive, and an incredibly well-connected figure.
But his boss was in no way inferior.
They were, in fact, evenly matched.
If one had to point out a difference, it would be that Justin Kane at least seemed to belong to the world of the living, whereas his boss was a true Asura.
A dark, sinister air.
Nina Thorne returned to her hotel room. Just as she came out from washing her hands, she got a phone call.
It was Misty Hughes, calling to congratulate her. "Nina, your short drama was a huge success! I saw it."
"I was afraid of bothering you before, so I didn’t dare to call.
Congratulations, your wish came true."
Misty Hughes had protected her before when Cole Kane was being aggressive.
Speaking of which, she still hadn’t repaid that favor.
After thanking her, Nina Thorne sat down to chat. "How have you been lately? Has your show been released? I’ll be sure to support it."
Misty Hughes was silent for a few seconds before she laughed and said, "I’m okay, but it’s not online yet."
"I heard you’re already filming the second season, with the original cast?"
"Yeah, the producer made the call."
"That’s great."
The envy in Misty Hughes’s voice was unmistakable, but she was also genuinely happy for her and wished her well.
Over the past five years, Nina Thorne had developed a sensitive nature. She took the initiative to ask, "Did something happen to you? Tell me about it. Maybe I can help."
"It’s nothing..."
"Don’t try to act tough."
Nina Thorne said softly, her words coming from the heart, "If you consider me a friend, you can tell me."
Misty Hughes finally admitted it. "I was fired from my company. I went to several others, but no one would take me. I’ve tried so many websites, but they all..."
By the end, Misty Hughes was choking back sobs.
Nina Thorne never would have imagined that she would encounter such troubles.
After all, in her eyes, Misty Hughes was definitely talented enough.
Nina Thorne comforted her, "It’s okay. Everything will get better."
After finishing her chat with Misty Hughes, Nina Thorne sent a message to Seth Lawson.
Around nine in the evening, Nina Thorne and Justin Kane arrived at the Graham estate.
The car drove through the front grounds for several minutes before reaching the main courtyard.
The courtyard was filled with a dazzling array of luxury cars. The guests, all either rich or noble, entered the Graham residence one after another.
After getting out of the car, despite coming from a wealthy family herself,
Nina Thorne was still stunned by the magnificent luxury before her. The estate was comparable to the Sovereign’s Court, blending Chinese and European design styles.
It could no longer be described as merely luxurious.
It was a symbol of power and status.
"Like it?" Justin Kane noticed the amazement in her eyes and asked, his dark gaze doting.
Nina Thorne snapped back to reality and smiled at him. "This wouldn’t be possible back in Sylport."
"Then we’ll buy one here."
Justin Kane’s voice was gentle, as if he were discussing something mundane, yet it held an absolute dominance and power.
Nina Thorne didn’t doubt his capabilities in the slightest.
Before she could speak, a clear female voice called out, "Justin..."
Nina Thorne’s gaze swept over.
Like a gust of wind, the figure appeared before them, her arrogant face filled with a rare joy.
"I thought you weren’t coming! Thank you! I knew you couldn’t bear to see me sad."
April Graham was wearing a formal gown tonight, her hair exquisitely styled. Standing under the lights, she possessed a noble and eye-catching aura.
But the smile on her face didn’t last three seconds.
It fell the moment she saw Nina Thorne.
"Justin, didn’t I ask you to come alone? Why did you bring her?"
April Graham’s face was full of displeasure, but unfortunately, Justin Kane paid her no mind.
"What business is it of yours that I brought my wife?"
Justin Kane lowered his head and said softly to Nina Thorne, "Let’s go inside."
Seeing how considerate he had been of her feelings recently, Nina Thorne gave an obedient "mm" and took his arm as they entered the house.
Nina Thorne remembered something and asked in a low voice as they walked, "Has the issue with your new system been resolved?"
Because of the system problem here, Albert Locke found out about it and had even contacted her yesterday.
"We found it. Someone was bribed to maliciously alter the system," Justin Kane said concisely, his expression still calm and deep.
If Nina Thorne hadn’t been married to him for nearly three months, she wouldn’t have been able to detect the chill in his words.
Clearly, he would not be merciful to the person pulling the strings.
But at this point, the matter had nothing to do with her.
Upon entering the house, Nina Thorne was so stunned by the entirely Chinese-style interior that she was speechless.
But she wasn’t someone who had never seen the world. Her expression was calm and composed as she followed Justin Kane toward the center of the main hall, to the old master seated in the host’s chair.
"Congratulations, Elder Graham. May you live a long and prosperous life."
"Congratulations, Mr. Graham. May your fortune be as vast as the eastern sea."
Nina Thorne and Justin Kane offered their congratulations one after the other, their attitude humble and polite.
Master Graham had a full head of white hair, but his face didn’t look overly old. His expression was benevolent, yet he exuded an air of authority without being angry.
"So, it’s the boy from the Kane Family in Sylport, Justin Kane."
Elder Graham glanced at Nina Thorne, quite contemptuously. "And this is?"
Justin Kane was just about to speak.
But April Graham hurried over, beating him to it. "Grandpa, this is the heiress of the Thorne Family from Sylport, Master Thorne’s granddaughter, Nina Thorne."
"Oh, so it’s old man Thorne’s granddaughter. Very beautiful," Master Graham said with a hearty laugh, but his eyes remained sharp.
’As expected of the Graham Family, at the foot of the capital in Veridia. Truly arrogant.’
She smiled and nodded. "Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Graham."
"Grandpa, stop complimenting her..."
April Graham’s beautiful face fell as she complained, "She’s just using that pretty face of hers to seduce my Justin."
As soon as she finished speaking, everyone present cast scornful looks at Nina Thorne.
They began to point and whisper.
Nina Thorne’s hands clenched involuntarily, a chill flashing in her eyes.
’Provoking me for no reason.’
She was in no mood to endure it now and was just about to retort.
Suddenly, Justin Kane’s deep, powerful voice cut in. "Between a husband and wife, how can there be seduction?"
Nina Thorne looked up at him, utterly stunned, her heart starting to pound.
Then, Justin Kane hooked an arm around her slender waist, pulling her into his embrace as if making an announcement to the world. "Miss Graham, watch your words. My wife won’t be happy if you speak like that."
