Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 134: Surveillance Disk
"Okay."
Justin Kane agreed instantly, without asking a single question.
Nina Thorne was surprised.
"You... you’re not even going to ask why?"
"Ask what?"
The magnetic voice from the phone suddenly sounded from nearby. "Whatever Mrs. Kane wants to do, she should do it. I’ll cooperate."
Hearing this, Nina Thorne looked up instinctively, her face instantly lighting up with a pleasant surprise.
There stood Justin Kane, about two meters away, watching her with a smile playing on his lips as he wiggled his phone.
He was tall with long legs, exuding an air of noble elegance. He was so handsome and dashing, she could never get tired of looking at him.
Her heart filled with excitement, Nina Thorne hurried over to him.
"What are you doing here?"
She looked at him, her face alight with joy. Tilting her head up slightly, her clear eyes were filled with delight, and her smile was bright and radiant.
Justin Kane’s heart stirred.
’Is she this happy to see me?’
"Mr. Wagner said you were here, and I happened to be nearby, so I came to find you so we could go back to the hotel together."
He hadn’t expected her to call the moment he arrived.
"What happened today? Why are you so happy?"
Nina Thorne pressed her lips together. "Guess."
"You got complimented?"
That group of engineers upstairs had become her fanboys.
Nina Thorne hugged his arm. "Nope."
They started walking toward the parking lot.
Justin Kane pondered for a few seconds. "You’re happy because we’re going back to Sylport?"
"That’s not it either."
"Your work is finished?"
"...Mr. Kane, you’re so dense!"
The setting sun scattered light like shattered gold.
It shone on them, stretching their shadows long and close together, creating a scene of warmth, happiness, and tenderness.
「The next day at noon.」
Accompanied by Justin Kane, Nina Thorne boarded a plane back to Sylport.
Cole Kane went to the film set but couldn’t find Nina Thorne, so he went to the hotel to wait for her.
Only then was he told that she had already checked out.
Cole Kane was livid.
Just as he stepped out of the hotel lobby, a figure rushed out and clung to his arm. "Cole, I finally found you! Why aren’t you answering my calls?"
"Are you avoiding me on purpose?"
Serena Kane’s face was pale, with dark circles under her eyes.
She looked much thinner, and she questioned him with a mournful expression.
Cole Kane was taken aback by her appearance.
It had only been a few days, and she already looked like a ghost.
"I told you, stop bothering me. I don’t want to see you at all." Cole Kane pushed her away, his face filled with disgust.
Serena Kane said, her heart aching, "Why? That night, we were so good..."
"Shut your mouth!" Cole Kane snapped.
Serena Kane understood.
He was scared. He was running away.
"What, now you’re scared? I didn’t see you acting scared that night when you were on top of me!"
Serena Kane gave a savage, crazed smile. "I’m telling you, Cole Kane, I’m your woman now. Don’t even think about escaping!"
That night at the resort, her plan was to kill two birds with one stone.
She had intended to make Cole Kane confess to falsely claiming to be the savior, which would make Nina Thorne give up on him, and then she would arrange for someone to take Nina away and ruin her.
Then, she would naturally become Cole Kane’s woman.
But she never expected that Nina Thorne would turn the tables on her.
Not only did her plan backfire, but she also ended up...
Although she did get what she wanted with Cole Kane, she was also... by those two men...
No!
’It’s already come to this. I can’t let any of this get out.’
"I’m going back to Sylport! I’m going to tell Grandpa, and Mom and Dad, that I’m your woman now," Serena Kane said with a crazed, triumphant laugh.
Cole Kane suddenly lunged, grabbing her by the neck. His eyes were bloodshot as he warned, "You dare say a word and I’ll be the first one to kill you!"
His expression was vicious as his grip tightened little by little.
Serena Kane felt her breath being squeezed out of her. She stared at him in terror, as if he would strangle her to death in the next second.
She slapped at his hand with all her strength, forcing out the words, "Let... go of me..."
Just as she was about to pass out...
Cole Kane finally threw her off.
She fell heavily to the ground, desperately gasping for air. Her throat burned as if she had inhaled smoke.
Cole Kane shot her a merciless glance before turning and walking away quickly.
"Don’t go..."
Serena Kane reached out to grab him but caught only air, forced to watch as he departed without a shred of feeling.
His resolute and cold back was reflected in her eyes.
Instantly, an earth-shattering hatred consumed her.
’I used to be so loved by so many people, so happy.’
’It’s all that bitch Nina Thorne’s fault. I’ll never let her get away with this!’
The plane arrived in Sylport at two in the afternoon.
By the time Nina Thorne and Justin Kane got back to the villa, it was already past three.
Miss King greeted them with a warm smile. "You’re finally back! You must be exhausted after these past few days away."
"The food is all ready. I’ll just bring out the soup, and we can eat anytime."
Before returning, Justin Kane had told Miss King their schedule and specifically asked her to make something delicious for Nina Thorne to help her recover her strength.
It was so thoughtful that Nina Thorne couldn’t help but be moved.
Nina Thorne smiled warmly. "Thank you for your hard work, Miss King."
Miss King waved it off, quickly saying, "Oh, please don’t say that, ma’am. It’s no trouble at all to cook a meal."
"Besides, my monthly salary is a hefty five-figure sum. You can’t find such good bosses anywhere else."
Justin Kane, whose arm was around her shoulder, patted her gently and said in a soft voice, "Go wash your hands. You can rest for a bit after we eat."
Nina Thorne nodded obediently. "Okay."
After the meal, Nina Thorne went upstairs to shower and change into her pajamas.
As she came out of the bathroom, she happened to hear Justin Kane on the phone, his back to her.
"I’ll head over now."
Once he hung up, Nina Thorne approached him and asked in surprise, "You just got back, and you’re leaving already? Is it urgent?"
She thought he must be exhausted.
He’d been on a plane for two hours and spent half the day traveling.
He’d barely had a chance to sit down, and now he had to rush off to work again.
"There’s an urgent matter to handle. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon." Justin Kane held her by the shoulders, a gentle smile on his lips.
Nina Thorne couldn’t do anything about it, saying with concern, "Don’t work too hard."
"I’ll be sure to remember Mrs. Kane’s orders."
Justin Kane turned to leave, but he suddenly stopped at the door.
"What’s wrong?"
Nina Thorne thought he had forgotten something, but he suddenly turned, strode back to her, and pulled her into a tight hug. "Nina Thorne, do you trust me?"
Nina Thorne frowned, perplexed. "Why are you suddenly saying this?"
Justin Kane’s hug tightened, and he took a deep breath.
When he let go, his expression was gentle as he smiled at her. "I’m off to make some money. A man who doesn’t wise up will get left behind."
Nina Thorne chuckled at his words.
But as she watched him leave, she couldn’t help but feel that something was strange.
However, she didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she contacted her uncle, Mark Lockwood.
Her uncle was clearly surprised to get her call. "Nina?"
Hearing the suppressed excitement in her uncle’s voice, Nina Thorne felt a sting in her nose.
"Uncle, it’s me."
There was a long silence on the other end, then he spoke, so excited he could barely get the words out. "It really is you. I thought I’d misread the name."
"What’s wrong, Nina? Calling your uncle all of a sudden... did something happen?"
A wave of guilt washed over Nina Thorne.
Five years ago, she had loved nothing more than to stick close to her doting uncle and aunt.
But later, she became unwilling to even see them.
"Uncle, there’s something I need to ask you. I’m going to visit the company in the next couple of days to look into the surveillance footage from a scenic area ten years ago."
"Ten years ago?"
Mark Lockwood was surprised. "Although the surveillance footage is archived, it’s been so long. I’m afraid it will be hard to find."
"We can narrow the search. I only need the footage from around Seraph Lake."
"Alright, I’ll pass the word along. Just let your uncle know when you’re coming."
Mark Lockwood wouldn’t ask what she planned to do.
His niece could do whatever she wanted.
"Thank you, Uncle."
"Nina..."
Nina Thorne was about to hang up when she heard her uncle call her name. "Uncle, what is it?"
He gave an awkward laugh on the other end. "It’s nothing. We can talk about it when we see each other."
"Okay."
Hearing her uncle’s familiar, comforting voice, Nina Thorne’s heart ached, and she hastily hung up the phone.
She took a deep breath, and after a while, her emotions finally settled.
Memories of the past had been surfacing frequently lately.
She often felt a prickling sensation, as if being stabbed by needles from time to time.
It was like nearly drowning ten years ago—utterly suffocating.
Fortunately, a call from Misty Hughes pulled Nina Thorne out of her reverie.
The sound of her phone ringing startled Nina Thorne.
Coming to her senses, she realized her back was covered in a cold sweat. "Misty, what’s up?"
"Nina, I heard you’re back in Sylport," Misty Hughes asked in her clear voice.
Nina Thorne hummed in affirmation. "Just got back."
"I’m processing my new hire paperwork at Reagan these couple of days, so I was hoping to treat you to a meal tomorrow."
She didn’t give Nina Thorne a chance to refuse. "I know you helped me this time. Otherwise, I never would have gotten into Reagan. Please, give me a chance to thank you."
That line sounded strangely familiar to Nina Thorne.
It reminded her of Jessica Jenkins, whom she had helped before.
But Misty Hughes and Jessica Jenkins were, after all, different.
"Don’t be so formal. You’ve helped me a lot too. But I’m happy to have a meal together. It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other," Nina Thorne readily agreed.
It worked out perfectly. After meeting Misty Hughes tomorrow, she could stop by The Thorne Group’s branch office.
She was desperate to find out who had saved her all those years ago.
-
"What have you found?"
Justin Kane sat on the black sofa, his dark suit blending in perfectly. His posture was relaxed, yet he exuded a powerful, oppressive aura.
Assistant Cheney’s expression was grave. "President, our investigation shows that Miss Graham and the Second Young Master are both returning to Sylport tonight."
"Have they met?"
"We tracked their movements over the past few days. They have indeed met. I’m afraid they’re both targeting you and Madam."
Assistant Cheney reported everything in detail.
"Is all the evidence from the resort incident collected?" Justin Kane lifted his gaze, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
Assistant Cheney knew exactly what he intended and was horrified.
"It’s all compiled. President, are you going to...?"
"Find a reasonable excuse and have someone give it to my wife."
Justin Kane said, his face cold and his voice devoid of any warmth.
"Yes, I’ll see to it right away."
A chill ran down Assistant Cheney’s back.
’Thank goodness I’m not the President’s enemy.’
’Even his own brother...’
’Never mind. The fact that the President is only acting now shows he’s already given the Kane Family plenty of face.’
Justin Kane stood up and straightened his already neat suit, his gaze shifting sideways. "What has the First Madam been up to recently?"
"Since the incident in Keldon, the First Madam has been quiet. And on the board of directors, those with dissenting opinions have been cleaned out."
"Also, President Walsh will be back from abroad in the next couple of days to officially take over the branch company."
Justin Kane gave a low hum of acknowledgment and strode away, his face stern.
The next day, Nina Thorne went out to meet Misty Hughes, but her mind had already flown to The Thorne Group’s branch office, eager to find the surveillance disks from all those years ago.
