Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Favor

Jason Graham didn’t even look back.

April Graham looked at Justin Kane, her eyes filled with hurt. "Justin, you..."

"Miss Graham, we’re not close. Don’t call me that, lest people get the wrong idea." Justin Kane twisted the knife.

His attitude was cold, his gaze sharp and filled with distance.

The others saw this and, feeling incredibly awkward, tactfully walked away.

April Graham’s eyes instantly welled with tears.

"Justin, do you have to be so heartless to me? Saying all this in front of so many people... did you ever think about my feelings?"

Justin Kane’s jaw tensed. He said coldly,

"When you used that incident to threaten me, forcing me to make that clarification at the birthday party in front of everyone, did *you* ever think about *her* feelings?"

April Graham trembled.

It was like being struck a heavy blow.

She could even see disgust for her in his eyes.

Nina Thorne was not far away, chatting with someone else.

Her gaze inadvertently drifted over to them.

Just in time to see Justin Kane leaning down and saying something to April Graham.

From her angle, she could actually see a fierce look on Justin Kane’s face.

"Listen. Any last bit of goodwill between us is gone. The person I love is her, and it always will be."

Justin Kane strode away.

April Graham’s eyes were red as tears rolled down her face.

She clenched her fists tightly, hatred growing wildly in her heart.

’Nina Thorne!’

’You humiliated me and stole the man I love. I’ll make you pay.’

Seeing Justin Kane walk away, Nina Thorne felt a strange sense of surprise.

’He seems so cold to April Graham.’

’But if that’s the case, why did he deny our marriage because of her at the birthday party?’

Nina Thorne realized she couldn’t figure him out anymore.

She pulled her gaze away, only to find Jason Graham walking straight toward her.

She wanted to pretend she hadn’t seen him and walk away, but he called out to her. "Miss Thorne."

Nina Thorne’s steps faltered.

Jason Graham now stood before her, a meaningful smile on his face.

"It seemed like Miss Thorne saw me just now, but didn’t seem too happy about it?"

’It’s not "seemed like."’

Nina Thorne glanced at him but didn’t say the words out loud. "What can I do for you, President Graham?" she asked coolly.

Jason Graham let out a low chuckle. "Nothing much. I was just worried that a busy person like you might forget about the compensation matter, so I thought I’d remind you."

"President Graham, you’ve reminded me several times about this paltry sum."

Nina Thorne’s lips curved, but her words were blunt. "Don’t worry. The insurance company won’t run off with your pocket change. You don’t have to lose sleep over it."

"..."

The curve of Jason Graham’s lips vanished in an instant.

’Is she calling me petty?’

’Damn girl.’

’Her tongue has gotten so sharp.’

Albert Locke pressed his lips together, holding back a laugh.

Seeing that the seminar wouldn’t start for a while, Nina Thorne headed to the restroom first.

As she walked down the hallway, she had the faint feeling that someone was following her.

She gradually slowed her pace and quickly turned her head to look.

Suddenly, a large hand seized her by the waist, spinning her body in a perfect arc through the air.

In an instant.

Her back was against the wall, her body trapped between a broad chest and the hard surface.

A strong arm braced the wall beside her. Before she could even see who it was, a familiar scent drew close as a head lowered and buried itself by her ear.

Warm breath seared the side of her neck. Her heart leaped violently, lodging itself in her throat.

Nina Thorne struggled hard, and only then did she manage to see her captor’s face.

It was Justin Kane.

"Justin Kane, what are you doing?" she asked, annoyed.

But Justin Kane pinned her hands, raising them above her head. His brow was furrowed, radiating an impenetrable gloom.

"Are you that angry to see me, yet so happy to chat with other men?"

Nina Thorne understood.

’He doesn’t want me getting close to other men.’

She couldn’t help but find it laughable.

’And what about him?’

’When he was with April Graham, did he ever think about my feelings?’

Nina Thorne struggled to no avail and finally gave up, her lips curling into a cold sneer.

"Who I talk to and how the conversation goes is none of your business."

Hearing this, Justin Kane’s expression turned frigid, his taut features looking as if carved from stone.

"Of course it’s my business. We’re husband and wife."

As if she had heard the world’s greatest joke, Nina Thorne laughed. "Husband and wife *now*? Where were you before?"

"I’ve discovered that when it comes to arrogance, you members of the Kane Family are all cut from the same cloth."

With a sudden burst of strength, Nina Thorne shoved him away. Her gaze was utterly cold, as if she were looking at a stranger.

"I hope that when you see me from now on, you can pretend you don’t know me. Also, get me the divorce papers as soon as possible. I’ll sign them immediately."

With that, she turned and strode toward the restroom.

Watching her cold, retreating figure, the gloom between Justin Kane’s brows deepened.

When Nina Thorne came out of the restroom, she didn’t expect to see April Graham standing by the sinks, apparently waiting for her.

Nina Thorne merely shot her a faint glance and walked over to wash her hands.

April Graham couldn’t stop herself from speaking first. "How long are you going to keep clinging to Justin?"

Nina Thorne bent slightly, letting the cool water run over her fair, slender hands.

She raised her eyes to look at April Graham in the mirror. "Is there something you want?"

’She’s the one pestering me, calling him "Justin" so intimately... making me, the actual wife, look like the other woman.’

April Graham said arrogantly, "A lowly little screenwriter like you doesn’t even deserve to be at a seminar like this."

"Nina Thorne, even if you’ve taken over the Thorne Group, in my eyes, you’re still just an insignificant piece of trash."

Unfazed, Nina Thorne finished washing her hands, pulled out a paper towel to dry them, then calmly turned to face her with a mocking smile.

"If I’m such a piece of trash, what are you so afraid of? Afraid you won’t be able to steal Justin Kane from me?"

"Or is it that Justin Kane doesn’t actually like you, and this is all just your own wishful thinking?"

Her words were incredibly sharp, piercing April Graham’s heart as if with countless needles, leaving it to bleed freely.

Justin Kane’s words were still ringing in her ears.

She was on the verge of madness. "If you hadn’t seduced him, we would have been together long ago! This is all your fault!"

Nina Thorne sneered. "He and I are legally married. If you’ve got the guts, go question the law instead of barking at me."

"If you want to fight and steal, I have no interest in playing along. If you can take him, I certainly won’t stop you."

"But I imagine that’s just a foolish fantasy of yours."

Her words were dripping with sarcasm and disdain.

Having said her piece, she prepared to leave.

But April Graham suddenly grabbed her arm, swinging her other hand to slap her.

A cold light flashed in Nina Thorne’s eyes. She quickly shook off April’s grip, blocked the incoming slap, and countered with one of her own.

The force of the slap snapped April Graham’s head to the side, her eyes widening in shock.

Then, Nina Thorne warned her,

"Trying to destroy someone’s marriage and then brazenly coming to provoke them... if I were you, I wouldn’t even dare to show my face in public."

"Don’t bother me again. Otherwise, I won’t mind hitting you a second time."

"You dare!"

April Graham’s hand was caught in a grip. No matter how she struggled, it was futile; she found Nina Thorne’s strength to be astonishing.

In the end, Nina Thorne shoved her away.

"Try me and see if I dare."

Nina Thorne shot her a cold glare. The icy light in her eyes sent an inexplicable panic through April Graham.

She left with that harsh parting shot, her retreating figure looking sharp and proud.

In that moment.

April Graham realized that she seemed to have changed completely.
