Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 5: Mrs. Kane, How About a Kiss?
Master Thorne found what Nina Thorne said hard to believe. After confirming it several times, he laughed even more heartily than before.
"Good, good. As long as you’re married, that’s what matters. When are you bringing him home for a meal with your grandpa?"
Nina Thorne meekly agreed, "Okay, Grandpa."
After she hung up, the bedroom door opened.
Justin Kane entered the room, striding over to her.
He carried an air of noble elegance, with sharp brows and bright, piercing eyes. He was breathtakingly handsome.
Nina Thorne’s breath hitched. She looked up at him. "You’re back."
Justin Kane hummed in response, his voice low and husky. "We’re newlyweds. I came back to have dinner with you."
A sudden warmth spread through Nina Thorne’s heart. "Thank you."
’Back when she was dating Cole Kane, they would make plans for dinner, and he would still leave her waiting at a restaurant for hours.’
’She only found out later that he had been called away by Serena Kane.’
’If Serena Kane so much as sneezed, Cole Kane would rush her to the hospital in a panic.’
’Nina was always the one he left behind.’
’And if she got angry about it, Cole Kane would just accuse her of being dramatic and petty.’
Nina Thorne reined in her thoughts.
She closed her laptop, set it on the bay window, and rose to her feet, giving him a small smile. "But you don’t have to go out of your way to come back for me. It’s really alright."
’After all, this was just a flash marriage of convenience.’
"It’s only natural that I’d be with you."
Justin Kane gazed at her, his voice gentle. "I told you, I want a marriage where we can live our lives together. And sleep together."
A flicker of warmth spread through Nina Thorne’s heart, but she didn’t let herself dwell on it.
’She knew Justin Kane was just a mature and stable person by nature; it wasn’t that he felt anything special for her.’ She nodded. "Okay. I’ll just wash my hands, then I’ll come downstairs with you to eat."
She walked toward the bathroom.
Justin Kane watched her go, his gaze intensifying as he looked at her retreating figure.
...
In the dining room on the first floor, the two of them sat facing each other at a square table, bathed in the soft glow of the lights.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman—it made for a heartwarming scene.
The table was laden with several dishes, all of which were Nina Thorne’s favorites.
’To think they have the same taste in food.’
Nina Thorne sat with perfect posture, eating her meal in silence.
Suddenly, Justin Kane picked up a piece of fried pork rib with his chopsticks and placed it in her bowl. "This is one of your favorites. Eat up."
Nina Thorne looked up, puzzled. "How did you know I like this?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"It’s not hard to find out if you want to know."
Justin Kane met her gaze, his own eyes profound. His voice was low and steady, as if stating the obvious. "We’re a married couple. I’m going to make a real effort to get to know you."
His words made Nina Thorne’s nose prickle, and she felt the urge to cry.
’So, if you really want to get to know someone, there are plenty of ways to do it.’
’To this day, Cole Kane still couldn’t remember what she liked to eat or drink.’
’She was allergic to mangoes.’
’And yet, Cole Kane had once ordered her a mango sago drink.’
’That was Serena Kane’s favorite drink.’
"Justin Kane..." Nina Thorne’s voice was a little hoarse. Justin Kane replied gently, "I’m here."
Nina Thorne stared at him for a moment, then summoned her courage. "Didn’t you use to hate me? Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden?"
’Hate her?’
’So that’s what she thought.’
The intensity in Justin Kane’s eyes gradually faded, replaced by a mysterious smile. "Shouldn’t a husband be good to his wife?"
Nina Thorne didn’t get the answer she was looking for and was about to drop it when she heard Justin Kane add sharply, "Besides, you were so foolish back then, it was hard not to find you annoying."
Nina Thorne: "..."
’She shouldn’t have asked.’
They finished the rest of their meal in silence, neither saying another word.
After dinner, Justin Kane went back to his study.
Later that evening, Nina Thorne brought a thermos of tea that Miss King had prepared and knocked on the study door.
She wanted to ask his opinion about visiting her grandfather.
"Come in." Justin Kane’s deep voice sounded from within.
Nina Thorne pushed the door open and walked to the desk, placing the hot tea to his right. "Have some tea."
"Alright."
Justin Kane took a sip, then suddenly looked up, a teasing smile playing in his eyes. "Mulberry and goji berry tea. Is Mrs. Kane trying to imply something?"
Nina Thorne’s cheeks flushed. Suddenly recalling an awkward moment from that morning, she hurriedly explained, "No, Miss King prepared it."
The moment she answered, she regretted it.
’Does my answer make it sound like I know exactly what it implies?’
Seeing the blush spread across her face, Justin Kane thought she looked like an easily startled little rabbit—so endearing that he couldn’t bring himself to tease her any further.
As if taking pity on her, he didn’t press the issue.
Justin Kane suddenly stood up. His tall frame loomed over her as he handed her a black velvet box.
"This is for you."
"What is this?" Nina Thorne asked, puzzled, as she took the box and opened it.
She couldn’t help but gasp when she saw a pair of matching wedding bands inside.
Justin Kane’s voice was low and magnetic. "We were in a hurry when we registered our marriage yesterday. These are the wedding rings we missed out on."
"Do you like them?"
he asked again, his gaze far too intent.
Nina Thorne’s breathing quickened. Even though this was a flash marriage, she couldn’t fight the feeling of being cherished.
She nodded vigorously. "I love them."
Justin Kane took her hand, slid the woman’s diamond ring onto her ring finger, and said with a hint of command in his voice, "Always wear it."
He lowered his head, his features even more chiseled and profound up close. Nina Thorne subconsciously held her breath as her heart began to pound.
When Justin Kane didn’t get a response after a long moment, he thought she was reluctant. His gaze darkened slightly. "You don’t want to?"
Nina Thorne quickly shook her head. "No, I’m willing."
Only then did Justin Kane’s expression soften. He held out his left hand, his fingers long and his knuckles distinct. "Then, if Mrs. Kane would do the honors and put my ring on for me."
Feeling it was only right, Nina Thorne obediently took out the man’s ring and gently slid it onto his finger.
Her fingers were soft and delicate, and the brush of her skin against his charged the atmosphere with intimacy.
Justin Kane suddenly hooked an arm around her slender waist, pulling her into his embrace. He lowered his head to gaze at her. "Next, shouldn’t we be doing what married couples do?"
At his words, Nina Thorne’s heart hammered in her chest, and her mind went blank for a second.
After a long moment, she finally found her voice. "Wh-what?"
Justin Kane raised a hand, the pad of his thumb stroking her delicate cheek as a fiery heat kindled in his eyes. "Mrs. Kane, don’t tell me you’ve never... been with a man before?"
He lowered his head to kiss her, but she was so nervous that she flinched, instinctively pulling her head back.
Sensing her resistance, the heat in Justin Kane’s eyes gradually faded. He let her go. "It’s alright. I’ll give you time."
Nina Thorne froze.
’Does this mean... he won’t touch me without my consent?’
For some reason, she felt that the Justin Kane who had always seemed cold and unapproachable now possessed an indescribable gentleness.
Nina Thorne couldn’t understand why, but she felt apologetic for what had just happened. She lowered her gaze. "I’m sorry, I’m not ready yet."
The corner of Justin Kane’s lips curved up slightly as he gently patted her head. "You’re apologizing for something so small?"
"I told you I’d give you time. But... don’t make me wait too long."
In that moment, Nina Thorne felt a sense of being doted on—a feeling she had never experienced with Cole Kane.
After a long moment, she nodded obediently and said, "Okay." Then, she suddenly remembered why she had come. "Oh, right. My grandfather wants to meet you. Would you be willing to come home with me to see him?"
"I can. But..."
Justin Kane’s eyes were profound as he leaned in close to her ear, his voice both magnetic and bewitching. "Mrs. Kane... how about a kiss?"
