Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 72: Promised to Forgive Him 99 Times
Cole Kane chased her out the door and grabbed Nina Thorne’s hand. He opened her palm, then bent down and rested his chin in it, forcing a smile that looked worse than if he’d been crying.
"Nina Thorne, forgive me. This is the first time. You said you’d forgive me ninety-nine times..."
"Nina Thorne, do you remember? You said that whenever you got angry, all I had to do was say this, and you would forgive me."
Cole Kane’s voice was hoarse and trembling as he begged, "Nina Thorne, don’t go. Let’s not call off the engagement, okay?"
Just then, Justin Kane walked out the door.
His tall, slender figure exuded an air of nobility and composure. His narrow, dark eyes were deep as he silently watched the two of them.
An obscure, unreadable emotion flickered in the depths of his gaze.
Nina Thorne looked at Cole Kane, at the fawning smile on his handsome face.
She felt dazed.
And found it even more ridiculous.
She once loved Cole Kane to the bone, humbling herself to dust for him, yet he had only scorned and trampled on her love.
Seeing him like this now only made Nina Thorne find him laughable and pathetic.
She pulled her hand back and gave a bitter smile. "Cole Kane, don’t you think it’s all a little too late?"
Cole Kane panicked, shaking his head frantically. "No, Nina Thorne, just give us a chance to start over. I’ll definitely treat you right."
"I was wrong. I didn’t know that was what happened three years ago..."
Cole Kane was desperate to explain, reaching for her again, but she stepped back to avoid him.
"It’s not about that. It’s not."
Nina Thorne’s eyes were cool and distant. "Cole Kane, it’s that you never trusted me. I put up with everything because I loved you. But now, I simply don’t love you anymore."
"Did you hear me? I don’t love you anymore."
Nina Thorne’s voice was clear and gentle, but her words were like a knife stabbing viciously into Cole Kane’s heart, filling him with fear and panic.
"No, Nina Thorne, you’ve loved me for so many years. You must be saying that out of anger..."
"It has nothing to do with me. Your Serena is probably crying inside. You should go and comfort her."
Nina Thorne tossed out the cold words and turned to leave.
The light cast her shadow on the ground, stretching it long and making her seem solitary, cold, and proud.
Those five words, cool and merciless, drilled into Cole Kane’s ears. Though spoken softly, they were sharp enough to pierce bone.
BOOM.
Cole Kane felt as if he could hear his heart shattering. Watching her cold, departing back was like being pierced by a thousand arrows.
Never before had the realization that he had lost her hit him with such brutal force.
"Nina Thorne."
Cole Kane’s throat bobbed, his voice dry and hoarse. He was about to chase after her when a firm hand landed on his shoulder.
"Don’t humiliate yourself further."
Justin Kane walked past him, his tall figure exuding nobility. He shot Cole a mocking look out of the corner of his eye. "Who are you putting on this deeply-in-love act for?"
Cole Kane clenched his fists, glaring at him with a dark expression. "You should mind your own business, Brother. You don’t need to lecture me. No matter what, I’m still your younger brother."
At his words, particularly the last part, Justin Kane let out a cold laugh and retracted his frosty gaze.
Without another word, he turned and walked away.
By now, Nina Thorne was already in a car.
It was Justin Kane’s exclusive black luxury car.
Nina Thorne looked out the window.
She caught sight of the two men facing off, then indifferently withdrew her gaze without a second glance.
’After tonight, I’m no longer the brainless heiress who was laughed at for being Cole Kane’s simp.’
From now on, she was Nina Thorne.
Just Nina Thorne.
A moment later, Justin Kane got into the car from the other side.
"Let’s go." Justin Kane reached out and took her hand, which was resting on her lap.
Nina Thorne gave a docile "mhm" and curved her lips slightly. "Okay."
After that, the luxury car, like an imperious cheetah in the night, slowly drove away.
The car’s paint was reflective and high-end under the lights, and its license plate with six 8s highlighted the owner’s noble, high-status identity.
Cole Kane watched with his own eyes as Nina Thorne sat in Justin Kane’s car, and hatred crept over him like vines.
"Cole."
Serena Kane ran out from the mansion. Seeing Cole, she looked both surprised and fragile. "Cole, I’m so glad you haven’t left. Tonight wasn’t what you think it was. Please, let me explain, okay?"
She grabbed Cole Kane’s hand, trying to rekindle his past affection for her.
Cole Kane turned to look at her with a cold gaze. The memory of tonight’s humiliation brought a deep sense of disappointment to his eyes.
"Serena Kane, what in the world have you done!"
He flung her hand away, but she quickly latched onto him again, carefully and pitifully tugging at the corner of his shirt.
"No, it’s not like that, Cole. Those videos are fake, they must be doctored! I’m your sister, why don’t you believe me?"
Cole Kane’s mind was a mess. Not wanting to hear her voice, he coldly removed her hand again. "That’s enough. I don’t want to hear it."
"You orchestrated everything tonight. Wasn’t it on purpose?"
"Now, everyone in our circle probably sees us as the biggest joke!"
Cole Kane’s eyes were red, and he was grinding his teeth so hard he could have shattered his gums. Not wanting to see her any longer, he left decisively.
Serena Kane chased after him, crying and begging.
But Cole Kane was unmoved. Without giving her a single glance, he got into his car and drove away impassively.
Serena Kane clenched her fists tightly, her sharp nails nearly digging into her palms. Her heart was filled with so much hatred it felt like it was bleeding.
’That bitch Nina Thorne!’
’I will expose her affair with Justin Kane, make it public, and completely destroy her!’
...
When they returned to the villa’s main hall, it was already eleven at night.
Nina Thorne stood in the hall, a dazed look on her small, palm-sized face. Everything that happened tonight felt like a dream.
"Are you tired?"
Seeing her absent-minded state, Justin Kane reached out and massaged her shoulders and neck, his eyes as gentle as a spring breeze. "Want me to give you a massage?"
Nina Thorne snapped back to reality, warmed by his gentle gaze. She curved her lips into a smile. "I’m not tired."
In fact, she wasn’t tired at all from tonight’s events. Instead, she felt refreshed in both body and mind.
After all, she had accomplished two major things.
One, she had announced the broken engagement.
And two, she had exposed Serena Kane’s shameless actions from three years ago.
’I just don’t know how I’m going to explain this to Mr. Kane now that it’s blown up...’
Justin Kane caught the worry in her eyes. "What are you thinking about?"
Nina Thorne took a deep breath, walked around to the sofa and sat down. She pursed her lips before saying, "Word of what happened tonight will probably reach Grandpa soon. I’m worried it won’t be easy to explain."
"It’s a small matter."
Justin Kane took off his suit jacket. "I’ll handle it. Don’t worry, Grandpa won’t blame you."
Nina Thorne frowned slightly and didn’t reply, still feeling uneasy.
After all, she was the one who had broken her promise.
In the Kane Family, Mr. Kane doted on her, and she didn’t want to do anything that would sadden him.
Miss King brought over a bowl of bird’s nest soup and another of red bean and longan sweet soup, placing them on the table.
Then, she took the suit jacket from Justin Kane’s hands and said with a smile, "President and Madam must be tired from the banquet tonight. I just finished stewing the bird’s nest soup. It’s still warm, please have some."
’Miss King is very thoughtful and good at taking care of people. She remembers our habits and tastes perfectly.’
’No wonder Justin Kane brought her over from the Kane family estate.’
"Thank you."
Nina Thorne happened to be hungry, so she picked up the bird’s nest soup and started eating.
After causing such a scene at the banquet, she hadn’t had a bite to eat.
Seeing how heartily she was eating, Justin Kane also sat down and began to eat the longan sweet soup.
"Grandpa will inevitably find out about tonight, so you should be mentally prepared for that."
Justin Kane ate elegantly, his tone casual as if making small talk. "But you don’t need to worry too much. I’ll explain it to Grandpa when the time comes."
Nina Thorne lifted her eyes to glance at him and politely declined, "I want to talk to Grandpa about this myself."
For any other matter, she would have been thrilled to not have to deal with it herself.
But since it concerned Mr. Kane, she wanted to handle it personally.
Justin Kane couldn’t help but look up at her, the corners of his mouth lifting into a slight smile. "Alright. As you wish."
After finishing her food, Nina Thorne went upstairs, took a shower, and finally lay down.
She opened WeChat and saw several messages from Macy Lynch.
[What happened at the banquet tonight? Did it go well?]
[You’re not saying anything, I’m getting worried. Get online, reply, tell me the good news!]
[It’s 10:30, honey. Are you okay? You didn’t fall into that woman’s trap, did you?]
[...]
Reading the messages, Nina Thorne could easily imagine Macy Lynch’s gossipy and anxious state.
She had mentioned to Macy Lynch before that she was going to turn the tables on Serena Kane at Mrs. Lawson’s birthday banquet tonight.
Of course, things had gone so smoothly thanks to Justin Kane.
He got the paparazzo named Glen Denton to turn against Serena Kane and double-cross her.
The video and photos that were supposed to expose her and Justin Kane had been secretly altered, leading to the scene at the banquet tonight.
’It has to be said, seeing Serena Kane being pointed at and looked at with disgust by everyone at the banquet was truly satisfying.’
Nina Thorne was simply giving back what she had experienced over the years, an eye for an eye.
She gave a faint smile and replied to Macy Lynch.
[Everything went smoothly.]
[Details, now!]
Nina Thorne didn’t expect Macy Lynch to reply instantly. It seemed she had been waiting.
Not wanting to disappoint Macy, she fought off her sleepiness and briefly recounted the night’s events.
Macy Lynch couldn’t hide her excitement after reading the summary. She was so thrilled that she sent a long voice message: [That was awesome, honey! You should have done this ages ago. I’ve been putting up with that white lotus for so long. Now I want to see if she still has the face to stay in the Kane Family!]
[Cole Kane is definitely kicking himself for treating you like that all these years for someone like her. I’m suddenly really looking forward to seeing his face when he finds out you married Justin Kane. He’ll probably want to die.]
Macy Lynch was clearly enjoying his misfortune.
Nina Thorne smiled after listening and typed her reply:
[Serena Kane’s ending was decided three years ago.]
[As for Cole Kane, I don’t care what happens to him. I’m not interested.]
After replying to Macy Lynch, Nina Thorne put down her phone, ready to rest.
Although today’s events left her with a hint of melancholy, she wasn’t sad.
She didn’t even dwell on what happened tonight. But the moment she closed her eyes, the image of her and Justin Kane embracing three years ago suddenly flooded her mind...
Nina Thorne’s face instantly flushed.
She quickly tapped her cheeks a few times, forcing herself to calm down and suppress the inappropriate thoughts.
「In the study next door」
Seth Lawson called Justin Kane. "Well, Justin, you certainly gave my grandmother a big surprise today."
His tone was teasing as he added with a laugh, "But don’t worry, what happened tonight will stay within our circle. It won’t be leaked to the media."
"Thanks."
Justin Kane’s deep, dark eyes held a mysterious glint, and his lips curved into a satisfied smile. "You handled your part beautifully today."
"You flatter me. I learned from the best."
Seth Lawson said self-deprecatingly, "If my grandmother finds out I was involved in this, she’ll probably kick me out of the house tomorrow. You’ll have to take me in then."
"I don’t take in useless people." Justin Kane’s reply was ruthless and sharp-tongued, earning him a string of complaints from Seth Lawson.
"Justin Kane, that’s cold! Are you just going to use me and toss me aside?"
"You terrible friend! You’d ditch your friends for a girl in a heartbeat!"
Seth Lawson suddenly threatened in a sinister tone, "You just wait, I’m going to tell your dear Nina Thorne all your secrets!"
