Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 84: Force-Fed Dog Food
Shawn Sinclair and Seth Lawson exchanged a look, settling in to watch the show.
It was the first time they had ever seen Justin Kane get serious like this.
’How interesting.’
But for the other young masters, it felt like they were about to be tortured. A chill ran down their spines, and they looked at each other, completely at a loss.
Zane Jarvis wiped away his sweat. "Kane, we... we just had a couple too many drinks. We were just talking nonsense."
"Don’t take it seriously. The Second Young Master didn’t mean it like that."
Zane Jarvis knew all too well that it was Justin Kane who had orchestrated the recent removal of Cole Kane as the president of a subsidiary.
He didn’t even spare his own brother, which showed just how ruthless his methods were. He wasn’t a man of empty threats.
"Do you have any right to speak?"
Justin Kane shot him a look, and Zane Jarvis immediately fell silent.
His powerful aura was incredibly oppressive.
Cole Kane clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. "I know exactly what kind of person you are, Brother. You would never have anything to do with Nina Thorne."
"Besides, she’s still my girlfriend."
This statement was like digging a pit, waiting for Justin Kane to fall in.
Although he was afraid of him, his schemes ran deep. Even if Justin Kane was arrogant and looked down on everyone...
...admitting it would be proof that he had stolen his brother’s love.
And his younger brother’s, at that.
When that happened, he would inevitably be subject to criticism.
On a larger scale, it could even cause negative press and destabilize the group’s stock market performance.
He was betting that Justin Kane had nothing to do with Nina Thorne, and he was also betting that Justin Kane wouldn’t gamble with the life and death of the Group just to play games with her.
The others watched Cole Kane with trepidation. They hadn’t expected him to say such a thing and all turned to look at Justin Kane in fear.
As expected, the pressure around Justin Kane dropped abruptly, and a chill filled the entire private room.
"What’s between Nina Thorne and me is hardly something a mind like yours could ever fathom."
He lazily raised an eyebrow, a cold sneer escaping his thin lips.
Then, his cool gaze swept over the crowd. "What answer are you hoping to hear?"
As if the young masters would dare to listen.
They exchanged glances, then hurriedly stood up in unison, looking for an excuse to leave.
Including Zane Jarvis.
"Kane, we’ll be leaving then." Zane Jarvis stammered his goodbyes, glanced at Cole Kane, and quickly left.
Cole Kane felt as if he had been viciously slapped across the face.
He secretly clenched his jaw, glaring at Justin Kane with displeasure. "Brother, with a reaction like that, don’t tell me I hit the mark?"
"Could it be that you really have those kinds of feelings for Nina Thorne, Brother?"
Justin Kane’s dark expression was coated in a layer of frost as he stared coldly at Cole Kane.
Inside the private room, besides the two brothers, only Shawn Sinclair and Seth Lawson remained.
Upon hearing this, both men looked at Cole Kane, then at each other, and let out a low, knowing grunt.
’If he weren’t the second young master of the Kane Family, he’d probably have been sent by Justin Kane to feed the sharks in international waters by now.’
’Besides, he was the one who didn’t cherish Nina Thorne, leading to their engagement being called off.’
’For that girl, meeting Justin Kane is the happy ending she deserves after all her heartache.’
"So what if I do?"
Justin Kane stood up. His tall, slender figure wore the hand-tailored suit with an air of noble elegance, his aura powerful and intimidating.
"What can you do to me?"
Cole Kane’s heart seethed with a hatred so intense he could feel his teeth ache. He nearly ground his gums to dust as he suppressed his fury. "Brother, we’re blood brothers. There’s no point in you talking like this."
"Nina Thorne is someone I’ve had. Don’t tell me you want her too?"
"Aren’t you afraid of becoming a laughingstock if this gets out? The two of us, brothers, playing with the same woman?"
After speaking, he gave a mocking laugh, leaned back, and looked up at Justin Kane, his face wearing a cheap taunt.
Justin Kane’s brows furrowed. His eyes swept coldly toward him. "You’re actually treating your shamelessness as a point of pride?"
"It suits your character quite well."
After his cold taunt, Justin Kane turned to face him fully, staring down at him with an extremely oppressive presence.
"From now on, when you’re out, don’t say you’re my brother. I find it embarrassing."
As his words fell, he turned and strode away, his domineering and powerful aura radiating an air of looking down on everything.
Seth Lawson tried his best to hold it in but failed, his lips twitching uncontrollably. Even the usually refined Shawn Sinclair couldn’t help but let the corners of his mouth curl into a smile.
The two of them gave Cole Kane one last, indifferent glance and followed Justin out.
Humiliated on the spot, Cole Kane felt as if he had been slapped countless times, his face burning with a fiery pain.
Hearing the door of the private room close behind him, he was consumed by rage and slammed his fist on the polished marble table.
His eyes turned sinister and fierce. He would see for himself just what was going on between him and Nina Thorne!
’Just don’t let me find an opportunity. Otherwise, I’ll definitely drag him down from that high position and stomp him under my foot.’
-
The three of them went to the clubhouse, to a private room of the highest standard.
As instructed, a waiter had already opened a bottle of top-shelf red wine and now poured three glasses, handing one to each of them in turn.
Seth Lawson swirled the wine in his glass, brought it closer to smell it, and then began to tease him about what had just happened. "Kane, you were so harsh just now. Aren’t you afraid he’ll hold a grudge?"
In families like theirs, there was no such thing as sacred blood ties.
For the sake of profit, scheming and backstabbing were unavoidable.
Shawn Sinclair took a sip, his eyes behind his gold-rimmed glasses smiling as he looked at Justin Kane across from him. He parted his lips to speak:
"I have to say, this flash marriage of yours with Lady Thorne is indeed a headache."
"Looking at it this way, keeping your marriage a secret back then turned out to be a good thing."
At the very least, it minimized the harm to Nina Thorne and also reduced the potential impact on the Group from the outside world.
Justin Kane crossed his legs and leaned back on the sofa, his posture casual and relaxed. "I never intended to hide the marriage," he said nonchalantly.
Seth Lawson was surprised. "Then why didn’t you make it public? Was it Lady Thorne’s idea?"
He had only found out about their marriage later through Shawn Sinclair. At first, he’d thought they were just dating.
When he found out, he was shocked and angry, blaming Justin Kane for not being a good friend. He was the last to know.
"Yes, more or less."
Justin Kane’s hand, with its well-defined knuckles, held the wine glass, swirling it gently. His deep gaze seemed to absorb the reddish hue of the wine.
"As long as it’s her decision, I have no objection."
A trace of surprise flickered in Shawn Sinclair’s gentle eyes. "That doesn’t sound like you."
In fact, hiding a marriage was not something Justin Kane seemed likely to do.
Justin Kane was domineering, decisive, and ruthless in his actions. Once he made a move, he would never give his opponents a chance to react.
Of course, hiding his marriage should have been no exception.
"Judging by the situation just now, you’ve already made preparations to go public with your relationship," Shawn Sinclair said, his tone seemingly certain.
"Isn’t that standard procedure?"
Justin Kane lifted his eyes, his cold expression carrying a natural air of dominance. "As long as she’s willing, I’ve had a plan ready for a while now. We can go public anytime."
Seth Lawson caught the meaning. "So you get married and suddenly you’re at Lady Thorne’s beck and call."
"Kane, that really doesn’t sound like you."
The great head of the Kane Group, a man with connections in all the right places, whose methods were enough to make one’s blood run cold, a man known as the Smiling Yama.
To think he’d be so devoted to a young woman.
It was just so out of character.
Justin Kane lowered his eyes. He thought of Nina Thorne’s bright face, and a soft light flickered in his dark pupils.
"You’re a passionate lover of all mankind. Do you expect everyone to be a stud horse like you?"
Shawn Sinclair laughed at that. "I second that."
"..." Seth Lawson felt like he’d just been attacked.
’That mouth of his is like it’s been dipped in poison.’
Justin Kane, having reached a consensus with Shawn Sinclair, quirked his lips into a half-smile and raised his glass. "Great minds think alike."
He then tilted his head back and took a sip of wine, his sharp, defined jawline tracing an exquisite arc in the light.
Seth Lawson was unconvinced and rolled his eyes at them, especially at Justin Kane.
’Let the thousand-year-old tree that finally bloomed have its moment of triumph!’
Shawn Sinclair set down his glass and looked at Justin Kane thoughtfully. "Kane, you could say you’ve finally gotten your wish."
Seth Lawson smiled knowingly. "Hey, I know about this. A certain someone has had these feelings for at least ten years."
The image of that bright little face, whose smile was both charmingly naive and pure, surfaced in Justin Kane’s mind again, and he found he couldn’t sit still any longer.
Raising his hand to check his watch, he suddenly stood up.
"It’s getting late. I’m heading back. Don’t want to keep the girl waiting."
Seth Lawson froze. "But the wine was just opened."
Justin Kane smoothed down his already neat suit and raised an eyebrow. "The self-awareness of a married man."
Seth Lawson wrinkled his nose in disgust, feeling like he’d just been force-fed a public display of affection.
Shawn Sinclair chuckled. "Alright, head on back. We’ll hang out for a bit."
Justin Kane nodded and strode out of the private room on his long legs.
Once he was gone, Seth Lawson shook his head. "It’s over. He’s changed. He’s become a family man. Looks like Lady Thorne really has a few tricks up her sleeve."
Shawn Sinclair shot him a faint glance. "He’s never messed around all these years. Wasn’t this the day he was waiting for?"
His words were a wake-up call. Seth Lawson was stunned once again. He clicked his tongue twice, shook his head, and went back to his drink.
-
Nina Thorne had just gotten out of the shower. She was drying her hair while she picked up her phone to check the time.
It was eleven o’clock.
She opened her WeChat chat with Justin Kane. The last message was still the one from earlier, where he’d reported that he was going to the clubhouse.
Fearing he was out for a business social, Nina Thorne sent a text out of wifely duty, reminding him, "Don’t drink too much, or you’ll feel awful."
DING.
The WeChat notification sound came from the doorway.
Nina Thorne thought she had misheard and turned to look at the door.
Sure enough, the door opened the next second, and Justin Kane’s tall figure walked in.
His suit jacket was draped over his arm, and the top two buttons of his shirt were undone. His posture was lazy and casual, but it couldn’t hide his handsome charm.
’So handsome.’
Even after looking at this face for two months, Nina Thorne could still be taken aback by his beauty.
"Why aren’t you drying your hair?"
Justin Kane walked closer. Seeing her hair was still wet, his tone was laced with reprimand. "Don’t catch a cold."
"I just got out of the shower," Nina Thorne said softly. "I was just texting you."
A smile touched Justin Kane’s thin lips as he looked down at her. "Miss me?"
After speaking, he turned to the cabinet, took out the hair dryer, and returned to stand in front of Nina Thorne. "Sit down. I’ll dry it for you."
Nina Thorne didn’t comply, reaching for the hair dryer herself. "No, it’s fine. I can do it myself. You must be tired from your business dinner. Go take a shower."
’But the smell of alcohol on him is faint. He probably didn’t drink much.’
"I’ll dry yours first."
Justin Kane’s deep voice was rich and magnetic, leaving no room for refusal.
Nina Thorne looked at him. She didn’t dislike this domineering side of him and obediently lowered her head. "Alright, then."
She sat on the sofa, and Justin Kane naturally switched on the hair dryer.
The pads of his fingers threaded through her hair as he began to gently dry it for her.
This was the second time he had dried her hair. Not many times, but it felt as if they had been living like this for a long time, a perfect fit.
The warm air brushed against Nina Thorne’s cheeks, and the scent of his cool cedar cologne filled her senses, inadvertently finding its way straight to her heart.
Her heart suddenly began to race, and she quietly looked up at him.
The handsome man’s eyes were lowered, and his every move was filled with tenderness, as if he were cherishing his most beloved treasure.
This thought made Nina Thorne’s heart stir.
’She suddenly wondered, if he didn’t have someone he loved, how wonderful would it be to just keep living with him like this forever?’
