Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Brother, I Married Justin Kane

Nina Thorne’s pupils dilated at his words, utterly shocked.

’Justin Kane had a child with another woman?’

The thought struck her like a thunderbolt.

She couldn’t keep her composure.

"Mind your own business."

Justin Kane shot Jason Graham a cold glance. His tone was a warning, the pressure around him dropped, and his expression was terrifyingly grim.

It was like the calm before a storm—a side of him Nina Thorne had never seen before.

Soon, with his arm around her, he led Nina Thorne into the car and they drove away.

Once in the car, Nina Thorne turned her head. Seeing Jason Graham’s sharp, sinister face through the window made her heart sink.

’Who was that woman? What was her relationship with Justin Kane?’

’Was the child his?’

A heavy weight of questions settled in Nina Thorne’s mind, and her heart felt constricted.

Seeing the tense atmosphere around Justin Kane, Nina Thorne didn’t ask a thing the entire way.

Justin Kane didn’t speak either.

Back at the villa, afraid she wouldn’t be able to hide her feelings, Nina Thorne quickly escaped to the bathroom, using a shower as an excuse to calm down.

Her mind was a mess, and she was completely absent-minded.

She used shampoo as body wash, then used body wash as shampoo.

After more than an hour, she was still in the bathroom, spinning around like a top, feeling flustered and dejected.

Finally, getting frustrated, she came to a decision. Instead of letting her imagination run wild, she might as well just ask Justin Kane for a clear answer.

After getting out of the bathroom, Nina Thorne towel-dried her hair until it was damp and headed straight for the study.

"Justin Kane,"

Nina Thorne knocked, then pushed the door right open. "I have something to ask you."

As the words left her mouth, her expression froze.

In the study, Justin Kane was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, on the phone.

The lamplight cast shadows on his face, making his expression unreadable.

When he saw Nina Thorne enter with her hair still wet, his stern features creased into a slight frown. He spoke into the phone in a low voice.

"Just do as I said. Make the arrangements."

After that, he ended the call with a flick of his well-defined fingers, stood up, and strode over to Nina Thorne.

"In such a hurry to see me you didn’t even dry your hair. What did you want to ask?"

The tense aura he had on the way back was gone, replaced by his usual gentle demeanor. It was as if the earlier incident had been a figment of Nina Thorne’s imagination.

She suddenly didn’t know how to ask.

’So what if Justin Kane had a child with another woman?’

’Everyone has a past.’

’If she asked, it would seem like she was prying into his private life.’

"Why aren’t you saying anything?"

Justin Kane reached out to touch her hair, then took her hand and led her out of the study and back to their room.

Before Nina Thorne could react, a hairdryer was already in his hand, and he began skillfully drying her hair.

With the experience from the last two times, his technique was getting better and better.

Nina Thorne’s restless heart gradually calmed, like a puppy being soothed.

But she still couldn’t ignore the matter.

After her hair was dry, Nina Thorne had completely calmed down, which made it even harder to ask.

In any case, that was Justin Kane’s private business. If he wanted to talk about it, he would.

"All done. What was it you wanted to ask me earlier?"

Justin Kane put the hairdryer away and returned to her. The corners of his lips curved slightly, his eyes gentle and smiling as he looked at her.

He was both gentle and patient.

The last bit of Nina Thorne’s impulse to ask vanished. She gave a slight smile. "It’s nothing. I just wanted to ask how your discussion with Mr. Locke went."

She had her own selfish reasons.

She didn’t want his past to affect their current relationship.

Especially a past she had no part in.

She had no right to interfere, and even less right to care.

Justin Kane seemed to see right through her hesitation. He pinched the tip of her nose. "Were you going to ask me who the child and the woman Jason Graham mentioned are?"

Nina Thorne wasn’t the least bit surprised that he’d guessed.

’How could a man as smart and perceptive as him not figure out something so simple?’

But she no longer had the impulse to know. "That’s your private business. I don’t mean to pry. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to."

There were two reasons for this.

First, their marriage had nothing to do with feelings. It was a rash decision involving their two families.

Second, she felt that since it was something that happened in the past, she, as a latecomer, had no need to ask about it.

If she asked too many questions and heard an answer she didn’t like, she’d only end up unhappy.

It was better to know nothing than to invite trouble for herself.

"Is our Nina Thorne being this generous?"

A low chuckle escaped Justin Kane, a dark glint flickering in his eyes. "Or do you just not care enough about me?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Nina Thorne, "..."

’He was turning it back on her.’

’Though he was just teasing.’

Before she could speak, Justin Kane’s magnetic voice sounded again. "The child isn’t mine."

A single, short sentence that seemed to explain everything.

Nina Thorne looked up in surprise, not expecting him to offer an explanation.

The part of her that had already come to terms with it felt even lighter, and a joyful light sparked in her eyes.

"If you’re still interested in her, I can tell you the details," Justin Kane said, his lips curling into a half-smile.

Nina Thorne wasn’t a greedy person, nor was she in the habit of prying into others’ privacy.

She was already more than satisfied with his answer.

She smiled sweetly. "No need. As long as you don’t have any illegitimate children out there, that’s fine."

She turned to walk away, then paused, looked back at him, and added, "And you can’t cheat on me during our marriage either."

The curve of Justin Kane’s lips widened, and he let out a low laugh. "Alright. Whatever you say."

His words were doting, the kind that could easily make one’s imagination run wild.

Nina Thorne suppressed the urge to overthink and dove onto the bed.

「The next morning.」

The two were having breakfast face-to-face when Justin Kane suddenly spoke. "About last night, you did a good job."

Nina Thorne looked up, puzzled.

"Last night?"

"You knew enough to protect yourself. You even used a tool."

Justin Kane praised her, took a sip of black coffee, a satisfied smile on his handsome face.

’So that’s what he was talking about.’

Nina Thorne said nonchalantly, "She deserved it."

After a moment’s thought, she worried Justin Kane might find her too heartless and looked at him with concern.

"Was I too harsh? Did I make too big a deal out of it?"

After asking, her heart was in her throat.

The fear of being blamed by Cole Kane in the past instantly filled her heart.

Justin Kane’s brow furrowed slightly, his gaze resting firmly on her. "Legally, that’s called self-defense. Don’t go looking for fault in yourself."

"You’re not the one who did wrong. You were just protecting yourself. There’s no fault in that whatsoever."

In that instant, it was as if a beam of light enveloped Justin Kane, shining right into Nina Thorne’s heart.

Nina Thorne’s face was frozen in a daze, an indescribable feeling in her heart.

This wasn’t the first time she had asked Justin Kane something like this.

And it wasn’t the first time Justin Kane had answered this way.

What she had always needed was unconditional support.

Someone who would protect her, trust her, and be on her side.

But all Cole Kane had ever given her was blame and disapproval.

"Of course, in my eyes, you are always right."

Justin Kane’s eyes were deep, his sharply defined, handsome face revealing a powerful tenderness. "Whatever you want to do, just do it. I’ll be right behind you."

A pang of emotion hit Nina Thorne.

She felt like a child who had been constantly scorned, suddenly receiving encouragement and validation.

A hundred emotions welled up inside her at once. Her eyes grew hot, and tears almost fell.

She quickly lowered her head, forcing the tears back. When she looked up again, she managed a grateful smile. "Thank you, Justin."

Hearing this, a flicker of emotion crossed Justin Kane’s dark eyes, and his pupils contracted slightly.

-

After breakfast, Assistant Cheney brought in the latest model of a cell phone.

Justin Kane handed it to Nina Thorne. "Didn’t you break yours hitting someone? Good job. This is a reward."

Nina Thorne didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but she was touched that he was so on her side.

"You’re always giving me gifts. It looks like I’ll have to get one for you, too."

Nina Thorne suddenly remembered that his birthday was coming up soon.

"As long as you like it, that’s all that matters."

Justin Kane’s lips curled up in a teasing smile. "But if you’re going to give me a gift, I’m not picky. I’ll be waiting."

After speaking, he gestured toward the new phone with his chin. "You should be able to handle the data transfer from the old phone, right?"

Nina Thorne was taken aback.

’He actually remembered what she majored in.’

"I can."

Once Justin Kane left, Nina Thorne wasted no time. Using her formidable computer skills, she quickly transferred all the data from her old phone to the new one.

After taking care of everything, a text came in from Cole Kane: "Serena’s face was almost disfigured, Nina Thorne. I know you were angry, but you were way too harsh this time."

Seeing these messages, Nina Thorne felt nothing at all.

She simply deleted them and calmly put her phone down.

Then, she changed her clothes and went out.

If she didn’t go see that person soon, she was going to be buried under a mountain of complaint messages.

-

Dressed in casual clothes and a baseball cap, Nina Thorne discreetly arrived at an esports cafe with private rooms.

It was a trendy, internet-famous spot, so it was quiet during the day.

She pulled open the glass door and saw a man sitting on a sofa to one side.

His bleached-white hair was particularly eye-catching.

Nina Thorne sat down on the sofa across from him. The man’s lips curved into a smile. "Well, if it isn’t the little spitfire."

"..."

Though Nina Thorne had heard him say that plenty of times, she still frowned and retorted, "Yeah, and you’re old. Twenty-five years old with the face of a fifty-two-year-old."

Albert Locke didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "You’re certainly sharp-tongued with me. Back then, Master said you were obedient. I think you’re more like a little firecracker."

The kind that explodes when lit.

Nina Thorne froze for a second.

’Justin Kane even called her a gas leak.’

’Is my temper really that explosive?’

"I’m his biological daughter. Of course, he thought everything about me was perfect."

’It’s just that Father is gone now.’

’He left me behind to be reunited with Mom.’

A pang of bitter pain shot through Nina Thorne’s heart, and a longing that wouldn’t dissipate settled in her chest.

In the blink of an eye, her father had been gone for almost five years.

Albert Locke was the son of one of her father’s subordinates. Her father had sparked his interest, and he had fallen in love with IT.

After Mr. Locke ran into trouble, Albert studied IT with her father for a while. Later, seeing his talent, her father sponsored him to go abroad and specialize in computer science.

Her father certainly hadn’t misjudged him.

Over the years, he had long since become a leader in the field.

Noticing Nina Thorne’s somber expression, Albert Locke patted her hand and changed the subject. "What are your thoughts on the partnership? Right now, in Vistara, the Grahams and the Kane Group are the strongest contenders. We can basically ignore the other companies that have approached us."

"What do you think?"

Nina Thorne’s voice was light. "You can decide. I have no objections."

’In any case, Albert Locke would never work with the Grahams.’

’That left only one option.’

"Alright, then I’ll be the one to choose."

Albert Locke thought for a moment, then looked her in the eye and asked, "The news about you and Cole Kane breaking off your engagement made quite a stir. Pretty much everyone in our circle is talking about it."

"But what’s the deal with you and Justin Kane?"

At the banquet last night, he could tell at a glance that their relationship wasn’t as simple as it looked on the surface.

Nina Thorne lifted her clear eyes to meet his gaze.

She would have to tell him about their marriage eventually.

So she didn’t plan to hide it from him. She gave a slight, wry smile and confessed, "Mr. Albert, I married Justin Kane."
