Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 93: Was It Really Second Brother Who Saved Her 10 Years Ago?
Nina Thorne felt her body spin through the air.
Then, she landed in a warm embrace.
She then heard the sharp screech of tires on the pavement, like a cornered beast breaking free from its cage.
She was so frightened her body trembled, and a chill ran down her spine.
Immediately after, a large hand covered her ears, and a deep, strong, yet gentle voice soothed her from above.
"Don’t be afraid. It’s over..."
Nina Thorne trembled. Hearing the familiar voice, she slowly looked up and saw Justin Kane’s handsome, familiar face.
In that instant, she forgot everything else and threw her arms around him.
"That was... I was so scared..." Nina Thorne’s voice was choked, on the verge of tears.
Justin Kane’s dark eyes narrowed, filled with what looked like deep concern. He held her tightly, comforting her again and again.
Nina Thorne’s emotions finally settled.
Just then, Assistant Cheney, having called for an ambulance, walked over with a grim expression. "Sir, it’s Cole..."
Justin Kane followed his gaze.
He saw Cole Kane lying in a pool of blood.
Nina Thorne saw it too. She let out a sharp "Ah!" and her eyes widened in terror.

「Two hours later.」
The hospital.
Cole Kane received prompt medical attention. His life was not in danger, and he had already been moved to a private room.
However, after the truck had lost control, hit the guardrail, and crashed into a tree on the opposite side of the road, the driver immediately got out and fled.
Nina Thorne learned from Justin Kane that Cole had been hit while trying to save her.
He had rushed out to push her away, only to be knocked down by the truck.
In reality, Justin Kane had appeared just in time to pull her out of the way, which is why she wasn’t hit.
Nina Thorne’s feelings were complicated after hearing this. No matter what, Cole had been hit because he was trying to save her.
Even though Justin Kane had been a step faster in rescuing her.
"Now I owe you my life again."
Nina Thorne’s face was etched with exhaustion and helplessness. She gave a bitter, self-deprecating smile. "I owe him one too. How many life debts am I carrying now?"
"All that matters is you’re safe. Don’t worry about anything else."
Justin Kane reached out and stroked her head, his dark eyes fixed on her. "You must have been terrified today. I’ll take you home to rest."
Nina Thorne glanced toward the hospital room. Knowing there was no point in staying, she nodded obediently. "Okay."
Justin Kane put his arm around her, ready to leave.
They had barely taken two steps when Felicia Yates came hurrying down the end of the hallway, her face a mask of anxiety and distress.
Behind her was Serena Kane.
"Justin, how is Cole? Is he okay?"
Felicia Yates’s cold gaze swept over Nina Thorne as she anxiously questioned Justin Kane.
Justin Kane replied, "He was treated in time, so his life isn’t in danger, but he has a broken leg and will need some time to recover."
Felicia Yates’s heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled. Then she turned a fierce glare on Nina Thorne and gave her a hard shove.
"I knew you were a jinx! Wasn’t it enough that you got your own parents killed? Do you have to be the death of my son too?"
"It’s a good thing you two called off the engagement! Otherwise, who knows how you would have gotten Cole killed!"
"Mother!"
Justin Kane shot her a sharp, intimidating glare. "Do you have to be so cruel with your words?"
Felicia Yates was already furious, and his protectiveness over Nina Thorne only enraged her further. "Was I wrong? Why do you insist on defending her?"
"Even if you care about the partnership between our families, in this matter, Cole was indeed injured because of her! He was jinxed by her! Can’t I even say a few words about it?"
These words were like a thousand tiny knives stabbing into Nina Thorne’s heart, leaving her feeling numb, pained, and cold.
A chill ran through her entire body. ’She remembered how she, too, had once cursed herself just like this for causing her parents’ death.’
Nina Thorne’s hanging hands slowly clenched into fists.
"If it’s so easy to be jinxed to death, how are you still alive and well?" Justin Kane’s face was cold and stern, his words sharp and merciless.
"If this ’jinxing people to death’ thing is real, then does that mean Mother was the one who jinxed her own parents to death?"
"You!"
Felicia Yates was so angry she nearly coughed up blood. Her face contorted with rage, and she stomped her foot. "You’re siding with an outsider now, protecting your former future sister-in-law against your own mother!"
Justin Kane shot her a cold glance and sneered, "Now that you’re bringing that up, aren’t you afraid of being jinxed to death?"
His voice was chillingly detached. "They only had an engagement. There was never even a real relationship between them. Yet you bring it up constantly. Aren’t you just desperate to be her mother-in-law?"
Every single word from Justin Kane was a defense of Nina Thorne, not even hesitating to mock his own mother for her sake.
Nina Thorne stared at him blankly, truly feeling what it was like to be protected. Her nose tingled, and her eyes welled up with tears.
The death of her parents was a pain she was most unwilling to remember.
But Felicia Yates tore at her scars again and again, as if wanting to rub salt in her wounds until she was bleeding and in agony.
She bit her lip, her eyes red as she faced Felicia Yates and said, word by word, "Cole was injured trying to save me, and I’m very grateful. But, Miss Yates..."
"My parents are already gone. Please stop using their deaths to insult and hurt me."
"Even if I’m nothing in your eyes, I was their treasure, the apple of their eye. If you keep insulting me like this, aren’t you afraid they’ll come haunt your dreams?"
As she spoke the last words, Nina Thorne clenched her fists to stop her body from trembling.
Felicia Yates stared at her with a shocked expression, only now realizing she was a wolf in sheep’s clothing—fierce to the core.
Actually, she had always known that Nina Thorne was a wolf at heart.
As the sole heir to the Thorne Family, she had lived a free, unrestrained, and willful life. That changed when she fell for Cole Kane.
For the sake of marrying him, she had spent years trying her utmost to please Felicia, acting humble, obedient, sensible, and compliant.
That’s what had led her to mistakenly believe that Nina Thorne was a pushover she could bully as she pleased.
"Nina, Mother was just worried about Second Brother. That’s why her tone was a little harsh. Did you really have to say something so ominous?" Serena Kane said, feigning injustice.
Only then did Nina Thorne notice her. It was a pity her face wasn’t injured, showing only faint pink marks.
Over time, they would fade.
"You have no right to speak here." Justin Kane shot a sharp glare in her direction, and Serena Kane immediately fell silent.
She quickly lowered her head, not wanting to ask for trouble.
For all these years, Justin Kane had never once given her a proper look.
Before, it was just disregard, but now, because of Nina Thorne, it could be considered aversion and even hostility.
’Damn it!’
’She couldn’t understand why Justin Kane’s attitude toward Nina Thorne had changed so drastically.’
’In the past, he had been so cold to Nina, and he always liked to argue with her.’
’On any occasion, including when Nina came to the old family estate for dinner, no matter what Nina said, Justin Kane would always contradict her.’
’For example, one time, when Mr. Kane said Nina and Cole were a good match, Justin Kane had coolly remarked, "Not necessarily."’
’After all these years, who would have thought Justin Kane would now be protecting Nina Thorne!’
Thinking about this, Serena Kane gritted her teeth in anger, her fists clenched tight with hatred.
’She felt their relationship now was definitely not ordinary.’
’She silently swore to find evidence and destroy Nina Thorne!’
Nina Thorne then sneered mockingly, "I remember Mr. Kane kicked you out of the Kane Family. You’re still calling her ’Mother’?"
"Are you just shamelessly clinging on, or does Miss Yates simply refuse to listen to Mr. Kane?"
"It’s none of your business!"
Felicia Yates’s expression changed abruptly. She was solely concerned about Cole’s injuries and also a little afraid of this matter reaching the old master’s ears.
So, she didn’t argue further and pulled Serena Kane into the hospital room.
Justin Kane held Nina Thorne’s arm, looking directly into her eyes. "Are you upset? Don’t let those malicious words affect you. You did nothing wrong."
Seeing how concerned he was, the tightness in Nina Thorne’s chest instantly eased. She pursed her lips into a smile. "I was pretty upset, but you already stood up for me, so I’m not sad anymore."
"That’s good."
The tension in Justin Kane’s brow relaxed, and he then led Nina Thorne away.

「The villa.」
The study.
Assistant Cheney stood before Justin Kane, reporting the results of the accident investigation.
"We’ve checked the traffic cameras for that section of road and investigated the driver. It seems the crash was deliberately aimed at Madam."
Justin Kane’s fingers, which had been lightly tapping on his leg, paused. He lifted his gaze. "Have they found him?"
"The police have taken him into custody and are continuing the investigation. He claims it was drunk driving, but it’s clearly not that simple."
"Intervene."
A frigid chill flashed in Justin Kane’s eyes. "He touched someone he shouldn’t have. There’s always a price to pay for that."
Assistant Cheney was long accustomed to his defense of Nina Thorne. He nodded. "Yes, Sir."
-
After washing up, Nina Thorne lay in bed, her heart still pounding as she recalled the day’s events.
She called Macy Lynch to tell her what happened, which scared Macy so much she shot up in bed. "Oh my god, thank goodness you’re okay! Otherwise, there’d be no one left in this world to love me."
"But then again, what’s the deal with Cole Kane? A prodigal son’s return? A crisis of conscience?"
"But no matter what, Justin Kane was the one who saved you. Even if Cole has had a change of heart, don’t you go soft on him."
Nina Thorne wasn’t going soft.
It was just that Cole Kane was indeed in the hospital because he tried to save her.
No matter how terrible his past actions were, in this one instance, he had at least acted like a decent human being.
"Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing."
Nina Thorne gave a slight smile, her tone firm. "I won’t be foolish like I was before. Actually, thinking back, if he hadn’t saved me ten years ago, I never would have fallen in love with him."
Or rather, who she had fallen in love with was the boy from ten years ago, the one who had recklessly saved her.
Not the Cole Kane of later years, who repeatedly blamed and ignored her.
Macy Lynch was relieved to hear this. "Okay, I believe you. Besides, I think Justin Kane is much more worthy of your affection."
Hearing this, Nina Thorne suddenly remembered what Cole had said in the coffee shop, and her heart sank.
After hanging up, Nina Thorne’s mind filled with thoughts of everything Justin Kane had done for her recently, and her heart was thrown into turmoil.
It felt like something was stuck there, an uncomfortable feeling of being caught in limbo.
’She felt that she might have, without realizing it, started developing different feelings for Justin Kane.’
’But if what Cole said was true—that Justin had someone he loved deeply—then she was undoubtedly just asking for heartbreak.’
-
「The next day.」
Nina Thorne went to the hospital to see Cole Kane.
Just as she was about to push the door open, she heard Serena Kane’s delicate and aggrieved voice from inside. "Second Brother, are you really going to be so heartless to me, all for Nina Thorne?"
"Grandpa doesn’t want me, Mom and Dad don’t want me, and now you don’t want me either?"
Cole Kane’s tired voice replied, "Your heart is crooked. You can’t blame anyone else. Mr. Kane wasn’t wrong to kick you out of the Kane Family."
Serena Kane immediately started crying. "Yes, I admit I was wrong in this matter, but have you never done anything wrong?"
"What are you trying to say?" Cole Kane frowned impatiently.
Serena Kane wiped away a tear and said through gritted teeth, "You haven’t forgotten when Nina Thorne fell into the water ten years ago, have you, Second Brother? Were you really the one who saved her back then?"
Standing at the door, Nina Thorne’s eyes shot wide open upon hearing this. Her heart began to race, and she instinctively gripped the doorframe, holding her breath to listen, afraid she might miss a single word.
