Beneath the Red Dragon-Chapter 267 - 98: Mage’s Wealth (Part 3)
Amidst the vast continent stood these towering energy absorption devices, while all other structures had long turned to ruins. Judging from the scale of the ruins, a considerable city once existed in this half-plane.
Yet, over thousands of years, under various influences, the city turned to ruins, leaving the entire continent barren, desolate, weathered, and devoid of life.
Like travelers passing through the relics of ancient civilizations in a desert, Karon and the others pressed on, heading towards the continent's center, where a massive Elemental Pillar connected to the entire light screen towered.
After journeying with the frail mages for half a day, they finally reached their ultimate destination.
But all the mages, even the usually composed Karon, were left speechless.
For even with the mages' immense wealth, and Karon's riches as the master of the Dragon Group, they were astonished by the wealth left behind by the Ancient Mage.
Before their eyes, the soaring Elemental Pillar supported another intensely compact light screen, enveloping the center-most area of the continent.
This area spanned only a few miles, yet the entire region was covered with a thick layer of pure Magic Crystal.
These various attribute Magic Crystals had already submerged the bases of several sporadic buildings within, leaving a thin layer elsewhere, with diverse Elemental Crystals sparkling brilliantly across the region.
"Hiss," even Karon, who always regarded his greed and desires as insignificant distractions, found his pupils flushed with heat, although the Red Dragon's eyes were already red.
But indeed, Karon's eyes grew redder, as if about to spew fire—not from the greed of Dragon Blood dominating him, but from the greed inherent in his nature surfacing in his mind.
"Such astounding wealth, compared to these Ancient Mages, we might as well be beggars," other mages gaped as they marveled at this incredible wealth, no longer able to measure its value, as their shock made them forget the nearby dangers. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
In the face of such astounding wealth, the Red Dragon posed the greatest risk.
However, Karon's will swiftly dispelled his worthless greed, knowing such idle emotions could sometimes act as a driving force, but more often, they led to failure.
He ignored the still-dazed mages, instead, surveying the surroundings before him.
This intensely concentrated protective light screen appeared exceptionally thick, and Karon perceived its protective capabilities, undoubtedly strong enough to fend off a legendary attack.
Nine towering spires emitted terrifying energy waves; the soaring Elemental Energy Beam shot from the pinnacle of these towers, sustaining the entire light screen.
In front of each spire stood two grand humanoid statues, sculpted in a form resembling diamond.
Countless Elemental Crystals overflowed from beneath these nine towers, which appeared akin to some form of an energy absorption device, though more potent, capable of converting absorbed energy into Elemental Crystals.
Within the enclosure of these nine towers stood a solitary building at the center, resembling a library or Library Pavilion, seemingly isolated and relocated. Only one floor tall, it was not expansive, akin to the size of two ordinary rooms.
At least Karon's sight could vaguely discern rows of bookshelves through the windows, indicating no spatial expansion magic employed within this Library Pavilion.
At the front stood a singular grand statue guarding this building, shrouded in darkness, looming taller than any other statue.
"How to get in? With such intense protection and virtually endless energy, even an Ether Controller, a legendary powerhouse, could hardly sway it in a short time,"
Karon wandered around but refrained from hastily testing the protective light screen, as he indeed found no method of entering past the barrier, returning to the mages.
These mages had finally calmed down; although they sought the knowledge left by the Ancient Magic Empire, the overwhelming wealth influenced them nonetheless. After all, greed was not a trait exclusive to Dragons; every creature possessed it.
"Haha, of course, I have a way in; otherwise, I wouldn't be searching for these mage relics," chuckled the white-haired old mage Lapus as he retrieved an unusual Magical Alchemy Creation from his Mage's Robe pocket.
This magical creation resembled a badge engraved with a slightly open golden eye, alongside ancient magical script spelling a few words—True—True Sight, which Karon saw from the mage's palm—True Sight.
Lapus's magical creation seemed like a token bearing information, gradually glowing under Lapus's magic power, causing the entire protective screen to vibrate slightly.
A stiff, non-human voice suddenly came from within the protective light screen, "Inheritors of the mage, descendants of the Eye of True Sight, I've waited countless years for you to arrive!"
Crack, crack; the grand statue before the Library Pavilion in this central region suddenly came to life, twisting its form and emitting its voice.
As its form twisted, it resembled a human long inactive, moving its limbs and bones, creating peculiar sounds.
