Beta Complex-Chapter 69: He’s Fucking Crazy
"Don’t even worry about it." Chris leans forward, his hands resting on the arms of the chair and his blonde hair falling forward. Where Zander usually smells like laundry detergent, Chris smells like thick hair products that make Ethan’s nose twitch. "I was concerned about you anyway." The omega sighs. "I actually wanted to ask. . ." He shifts in his spot, as if he’s unsure of whether or not to keep going.
"What is it?" Ethan asks after a yawn. He really just wants to go to sleep, but asking Chris to leave will just be rude.
"Well, my dad’s a politician, you know?" He tucks his hair behind his ear and taps his finger against the chair. "He receives the best care and treatment. I can take you to his primary care doctor if -"
"Oh, no," Ethan furrows his brows, his free hand raising to wave the idea away. "Im already burdening Zander, I really don’t want to do that to you too." He feels guilty enough. Ethan isn’t paying Zander or his doctor for what they’re doing. Zander is doing it out of the goodness of his heart. It would be wrong to up and leave because someone else is offering him care. How would that look to Zander?
He would think that Ethan was ungrateful, or that he thought Zander’s help wasn’t enough. Besides, Chris and the dominant alpha don’t seem to be on good terms. If it’s a matter of pride, then Ethan should stick with Zander. Not that the beta has the courage to say that out loud, to either Chris or Zander.
"Is that what he’s telling you?" Chris frowns, his nose scrunching up in distaste. The leather on the arm chair creaks when he grabs at the arm a little to hard. "That you are a burden to him?"
"What?" Ethan laughs, is that what it sounds like he said? "No-"
"Isn’t that all the more reason to come with me?" Chris cuts him off. He stands up and moves to sit on the edge of the bed, his hand gentle on Ethan’s thigh. "You’re not a burden to me, Ethan."
The beta shifts his leg, hoping Chris gets the hint and moves his hand off of him. "You’re misunderstanding, he’s not telling me that." He doesn’t want Chris to think that Zander is forcing him to stay, because that isn’t the case at all. Zander wouldn’t do that. This is Ethan’s choice, "It’s just how I feel at the moment."
Chris frowns, his lips pursed as he blinks down at the beta. "Please say yes," he continues to push. "It’ll make all of this so much easier."
"What? It will make what easier?" Ethan frowns when Chris sighs as if he’s disappointed in him. The omega stands up and turns his back to him, his hand lifting to run through his blonde hair.
"I tried to get you to change your mind." Chris goes on, not bothering to answer Ethan’s question. "You left me with no choice but to do this the hard way."
Ethan’s eyebrows furrows, "What are you talking-"
The door to the bedroom opens, and the betas confusion only grows when a large and burly stranger comes in. He doesn’t recognize him, but based on the pressure the fills the room, Ethan can guess he’s an alpha. His aura isn’t as strong as Zander’s, but it’s still uncomfortable all the same. His monitor skips a beat when he sees the needle in the man’s hand.
"What’s going on, Chris?" Ethan asks, his gaze shifting to the omega a few feet away.
"Well," he finally turns around to face Ethan once more and smiles, "it’s actually a new medicine that a pharmaceutical company is working on. My dad has invested billions of dollars on it." Chris explains as the man pauses a few feet away. "It allows betas and omegas to heal as quickly as an alpha does."
Ethan’s eyes widen and Chris chuckles. "Amazing, right?"
Ethan eyes the thin needle, the deep purple liquid inside bubbles at the top and it doesn’t look like any medicine he’s ever seen. "It sounds too good to be true. And expensive." he whispers. If Chris is right, and this can truly accelerate a lower dynamics healing process, then it could change the world. Those with chronic pain wouldn’t have to live day to day wondering when it will stop. Does it even apply to cancer?
"It is expensive, I’ll admit that." Chris nods his head and crosses his arms over his chest. "But it does work. I promise. We’ve done many tests already and we’re almost set to go public with it."
"Really?" Erhan asks, shifting his gaze to look at the long haired omega.
Chris doesn’t reply right away. He bites his lip, as if he’s debating something in his head. "There’s something I haven’t told you." He shuffles nervously on his feet. He peaks at Ethan through his lashes, "The truth is, I asked Zander to give this to you, to help you."
Ethan arches an eyebrow, "You did?" Zander never told him this.
"Mhm." Chris nods his head. He reaches up to rub the back of his neck, "But Zander refused. He didn’t want to give you the drug because the alpha has a fetish?" He scrunches his eyebrows, "I’ll call it a fetish. To keep you trapped in his home. "
Ethan sucks in a breath, "You’re not making any sense." He mutters. Zander wouldn’t do that. Why would he trap Ethan in his room? And is it a trap when Zander is trying to help him get better? Zander said his doctor is better than anyone else at the hospital.
"What else could it be?" Chris scoffs. He leans forward, his knee raising to rest on the matress. There’s a gleam in his eye, one Ethan hasn’t seen in them before. "The longer you’re injured, Ethan, the longer you’ll have to be in his care. The longer you’ll be by his side. He’s fucking crazy, I tell you."
