Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 67: I Will Break His Legs!
Chapter 67: I Will Break His Legs!
Sophie wants to attend Abigail’s wedding and see her only Granddaughter happily ever after.
...
After moving her Grandma to the two-seater sofa, Abigail gently held her hand while observing her condition. She felt worried that something might happen to her bones again.
"Granny, are you alright? Why do you look like you’re in pain?" Abigail asked, concerned clearly in her voice when she noticed her grandmother’s stiff expression.
"I’m fine, dear. Please stop looking at me that way..." Sophie smiled as she gently tapped Abigail’s hand. "My doctor told me to keep doing my usual activities and move around as much as possible to help my bones heal faster."
Sophie continued to explain patiently, noticing the worry in her granddaughter’s eyes. "Even though I feel a bit of pain, I won’t complain. I want to heal quickly to make you less worried."
"Please don’t hurt yourself, Granny. I would be alone in this harsh world if you left me, too. How could I go on without you?" Abigail expressed her fear, her eyes brimming with tears as she imagined life without her grandmother.
"I won’t!" Sophie Lewis replied, a smile beginning to form on her lips.
"So, please, Granny, take care of yourself and stay healthy. Promise me?" Abigail urged, trying to hold back her tears.
Sophie’s heart warmed at her granddaughter’s words.
"I promise, dear. I promise. Your old granny isn’t going anywhere. I’ll stick with you until you have many children with Ryland..." A smile crossed Sophie’s face at the thought of that future, filling her heart warmly.
However, when she noticed Abigail’s gloomy expression, Sophie’s smile quickly faded. Abigail seemed to lower her gaze to avoid eye contact with her.
"What happened? Why do you look so sad?" Sophie tilted her head slightly, trying to see her granddaughter’s face. "Abby, are you alright?"
After struggling to adjust her expression and suppress her worries, Abigail slowly lifted her head to meet her grandmother’s concerned eyes.
"Are you fighting with Ryland?" Sophie asked after giving Abigail a moment to speak. When Abigail remained silent, Sophie continued, "Oh dear, you’re no longer a teenager. It’s time to stop fighting with him. He is kind and loves you. You both will be husband and wife in just a few months. Please, stop fighting...huh!?"
Abigail tightened her grip on her grandmother’s hand and said, "Grandma, please never mention his name again!"
Upon hearing Abigail’s words and seeing the anger flash in her eyes, Sophie’s relaxed expression vanished. Her granddaughter was clearly upset.
Her heart was beating slightly faster. "Abby, my dear, tell Grandma what happened," she said, trying hard to calm her racing heart.
Abigail could sense Grandma’s hand growing cold, and her eyes were shaking, even though she was making a solid effort to appear calm.
"Granny, I love you and never want you to be hurt or shocked when I tell you about this."
"I will try, my dear, I will try..." Sophie replied, now believing something terrible had happened to Abigail.
"I caught him making out with another woman. And it hurt me so much. It made me so mad, and I immediately called off the engagement. I dumped him right then and there," Abigail finally confessed.
"WHAT THE! Cough! Cough!" Sophie couldn’t finish her sentence; her throat tightened like something was choking her. She was too shocked to fully absorb Abigail’s confession.
"Granny..." Abigail was taken aback to see how red Grandma’s face had become. She rushed to the pantry and brought back some water. "Please drink this, Granny..."
Abigail felt guilty for telling Grandma the truth. She had anticipated that Grandma would be shocked, and here it was happening.
Once Grandma seemed to feel better, Abigail added, "This is why I was worried about telling you, Granny!" She took the empty glass from Grandma and placed it on the coffee table.
Abigail decided not to share more details with Grandma. She worried that Grandma wouldn’t handle the news well if she learned that Ryland was making out with Vanessa, her sister.
"How dare that scoundrel do this to my sweet Abby? How dare he?" Sophie’s angry tone broke the silence, surprising Abigail.
She looked at Grandma, shocked to see the anger radiating from her eyes. There was no sadness or shock left—only fury.
"Granny..."
"Call him now! Call that bastard for me!" Sophie gritted her teeth in anger. "I know you have a soft heart, Abby. Let me scold that scoundrel for you. How dare he break my little Abby’s heart? How dare he?"
Abigail felt her heart swell as she watched Grandma wanting to seek justice for her. She had thought Grandma would scold her for breaking up with Ryland, but her assumption was utterly groundless.
"Granny..." Abigail’s eyes slowly filled with happy tears. She squeezed her grandmother’s cold hand gently. Her smile grew as she said, "You are wrong about me..."
Sophie frowned slightly. "How so? Look at you—you’re even crying! Call him now! If she dares to show his face before me, I will make sure to break his legs!"
"These are my happy tears because you love me," Abigail replied, wiping her eyes.
She continued, "I scolded him badly and that woman, too. I called off the engagement right in front of them and left him. I moved out of his house and no longer worked for him. I cut ties with him, so please never mention his name again. I really don’t want to hear about him anymore."
"I’m glad to hear that, dear..." Sophie smiled at Abigail and opened her arms wide to offer a warm hug. "You did well, my dear. You did well," she said as gently patted Abigail’s back.
"Thanks, Granny..."
"So, what are your plans now? Do you have work? How about home?" Sophie asked after loosening her embrace; her concern for Abigail’s future could be seen in her worried gaze.
Sophie was also aware that Abigail was working hard to pay for her stay in this place. Although Abigail never spoke about her struggles, Sophie could sense the effort she was putting in, and it made her feel guilty.
