Chapter 53: Ruined (4)

"I don’t see any reason to set it on fire. To me, it sounds like you just want to have fun with fire. Kill them if you need to pull them out of that home. I will personally strip the walls of what they have changed after you get them out. I don’t want it ruined even more than they have already ruined it," said Selene.

A fire would remove everything they have added but the home was too precious for Selene to go that far.

"So, I have your permission to kill them if I want to?" Xavier asked, wanting her to say it a second time.

Selene nodded her head. "You may. They did not care for me during the time I needed them so why should I care for him? I might be kind but I will not forget."

"Rather than kill them, I would love for their lives to be miserable as they made mine before they were to die. They made my days more terrible than the town did," Selene said, the memories of what she endured created an aching feeling in her chest.

"I can do that for you as well. It would be a wonderful wedding gift for me. You are already focused on avenging your maid. Leave your family to me," Xavier proposed.

"I will. So much time has gone by but I still do not have it in me to fight with them. There is a small home my parents and I fled to when the king called them traitors. That is still in my name. I always wondered if it would have been best to stay there. The moment we returned to this town, my parents were dragged off to be killed," Selene said, that day still fresh in her memories.

"So much was thrown on their name the second we returned. I do not know why my father wanted us to return. I lost them and the home in such a small window of time. I don’t know all the details about what the king found concerning my parents but I am certain someone framed them in some way," said Selene.

Why would her parents want to kill a pureblood royal? It was a suicidal plan from the start.

"My parents always spoke of seeing me getting married and settling down. Of enjoying their time with many grandchildren. Why would two people who looked forward to the future get involved in a plan to kill the king?" Selene wondered.

Though her father was once a count, her family were simple people who did not get too involved in the politics of the palace.

"Was I not paying attention to them enough?"

"It could be far more than what was found. There could have been other people helping them for your parents to be confident they would not die. If they did want to kill the king, I do not blame them." said Xavier.

Had he known of the plot, he would have taken part in it. Then the plan might have succeeded.

"I know that you and the king do not get along but isn’t it too much to want him dead?" Selene asked.

"The king is a fool who thinks vampires are all untouchable yet many of us are being wounded by humans who are growing tired of being our food. We must have control of the humans but not treat them like they are animals. We can coexist but the king doesn’t solve conflict before it gets out of hand," Xavier explained.

"I see. If he is not a good king, then he should be taken off the throne. I have a feeling it will not be long before we see the king again and it will be out of our control. There is this feeling of something brewing," Selene said, her gaze going to the window.

"There is always something brewing in this town. Has your planning started? How will you get back at Gabriel?" Xavier asked, curious about how far she was willing to go for her maid.

"I want the request he will make to the king out of the way. I don’t want him to have a way out of anything I will throw at him. I’m sure that news of my marriage will make his mother move fast to speak ill of me. I welcome her to do it. I have not lived there without learning some of their family secrets," Selene revealed.

She never spoke of what she heard to anyone since they were family at the time but if Lucinda would go low when speaking about her then Selene would go even lower. free𝑤ebnovel.com

"I will not have them speak about me and leave them be. I’ve bit my tongue for too long to be respectful. Once Gabriel has his wish from the king, I will use that ego he has to be his undoing. I will need your help at times," Selene said since it was likely Xavier would cross paths with Gabriel more than she would.

"I will gladly help," Xavier replied.

"I didn’t have an issue with Cassandra before. My anger was always to Gabriel but her lie got Elsie killed. It is only fitting that she bears the same fate. I will not rest until those two are dead. I have much more to plan so I do not fail. The wedding took up my time these last days," Selene said, feeling like she had not gotten far with her plans.

"You have plenty of time to plan their demise, Selene. The Darius I know won’t be interested in hearing about Gabriel for long. The town is praising Gabriel for the victory so only the right king will join but he will grow bored fast. Darius doesn’t care much for mixed-bloods," Xavier shared.

It was something Darius was warned not to let out.

"How could he not like mixed-bloods? They are still vampires and his elders are part of the reason mixed-bloods exist. Is it because they are below purebloods?" Selene asked, but she hoped it wasn’t so.

There was an order with status for vampires and even humans but mixed-bloods were still vampires. They were rarely accepted by humans since they were not normal. They should not be turned away from vampires as well.

"He acknowledges them as vampires. He would be more foolish than I said he is if he didn’t but Darius has a habit of not caring for anyone who is not pureblood. Yet the women he will sleep with are mixed-bloods and humans. As I said, he is a fool," said Xavier. No one could convince him Darius was smart.

"It would bring trouble if the queen killed a pureblood woman sleeping with the king so he takes other women to bed. Women he would not mind if they were killed. The queen can get away with killing his other lovers. The palace is not a place for you to be. One wrong look from the king and the queen would harm you. Do not get close to her," Xavier advised Selene.

Vivienne allowed her jealousy to get the best of her far too many times.

"I will stay away from her," Selene promised.

Being near the queen meant being near the king and Selene did not want that. Aside from her recent marriage to Xavier, Selene didn’t see any reason she and the queen should ever need to meet.
