Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 63: Fool (1)
Chapter 63: Fool (1)
"I knew you wouldn’t take it well at first but I’m sure you will come around to see why this is good for us and our kind in time. My children will wield many talents. It is not all about sleeping around. I have done that freely for years but this is more about my bloodline," Darius pleaded his case.
He showed he had some respect for Vivienne by not letting her hear about it from someone else. Wouldn’t that have hurt her more?
"I told you to get out. I don’t want to hear about your bloodline or how you think I will feel once I think it over. I want you out of my sight!" Vivienne yelled, not caring about who overheard the queen being loud with the king.
Darius sighed, annoyed by her temper now but at other times, it was that temper he liked to see. He knew she would come around which made this part of their conversation useless. Vivienne would always be his obedient queen.
Darius exited the room and stopped before Theresa. She truly was a beauty Vivienne kept too close. "Take care of the queen. See to it she gets all that she needs."
"I will, Your Majesty," Theresa promised. It wasn’t uncommon for the king to order her to take care of the queen but Theresa didn’t enjoy how long it took for him to look away from her.
Theresa’s body was more tense than usual and when she looked up, she avoided her gaze going wherever the king walked so he could not claim she showed interest in him.
Once the king and his servants were out of sight, Theresa entered the queen’s room and closed the door.
"The nerve of that man to want to officially take mistresses to the palace and expect that I will be fine with it. I knew my husband was a fool but this has opened my eyes to how much more of a fool he is. It is all his doing. It isn’t something his elders would just accept," Vivienne said, letting her frustration out.
"If I may speak freely-"
"Speak!" Vivienne raised her voice.
"I think this means it is time you invite the king back to your room. Pushing him away has not worked in your favour since he continues to meet with ladies but now you must get back to making an heir. It has been too long since you’ve visited each other’s rooms,’ said Theresa.
Theresa believed there would be some comfort in knowing it was Vivienne’s child to be the next king.
Theresa continued, "Your family is important to our kind but there will be others bold to question why there isn’t an heir yet. You have your two daughters but it is a prince they want. You must take the king to your bed and be the first woman to have a prince."
"It is not as easy as you think to lie with that man. I’ve tried to convince myself that I love him so I can get through our intimate times but it is always unbearable. I think of the women he laid with and how he is not the man I want. I have given him two children. Why couldn’t they be boys?" Vivienne asked, annoyed she had to try again.
"I have a good feeling the next will be a prince so it will be your last. It will silence anyone who tries to pick a fight with you. I do not wish it but should something happen to the king, it will be your children to rule the palace. Then you can send away all those women and their families," Theresa said, noticing the queen’s interest in this part. freewēbnoveℓ.com
"You must build a close relationship with your children before the king or anyone fills their head against you. You must think of the future," Theresa advised Vivienne. "These women will enter the palace with their egos and heads high but unless they become pregnant, they are nothing more than the king’s mistress."
Vivienne wasn’t concerned about anyone carrying a royal baby. Her father was always helpful in taking care of the women Darius laid with to ensure there wasn’t a baby. For all the years Vivienne had been married, she never had to face the embarrassment of there being a royal bastard.
What bothered Vivienne was Darius’s need to keep another woman at his side. He wouldn’t be the first king to do this but she did not expect it with her.
Vivienne walked to her bed and fell back on it. The palace life was draining.
"I could have settled down outside of the palace and then it would have been someone else to put up with him. If only I didn’t carry my last name. I still think of what could have happened had he decided to marry me. I would be happy," Vivienne said, her mind wandering to a dream she had more these days.
Theresa approached the bed to fix the bottom of Vivienne’s dress since it rolled up.
"It isn’t fair," Vivienne muttered. She could not understand his choice. "I am the queen."
"You are," Theresa answered.
"Who I call upon should be here. It doesn’t sit well with me that a woman like that has taken his side. Her family plotted to kill royals and had they not been killed, they could have been after my life. I cannot sit by and allow her to do as she wants. To send me flowers and think that is all," Vivienne said, changing her mind about Selene.
Vivienne abruptly sat up causing Theresa to let go of her dress. "If I allow her to respond like that then other ladies will think they can do the same. The arrival of mistresses will have others question my authority. I must show that they are to do as I say. Get me some paper and ink. I need to send invitations again and call upon my father."
"I have been too kind," said Vivienne.
Theresa searched for what the queen needed. "Will you invite other ladies for a visit to the palace?"
"Not that," Vivienne shook her head. "Xavier hates the palace so he will not allow her to come here so easily. I hadn’t thought of that with my first invitation. I will invite his new wife elsewhere. Make her feel that other women around the town care to get to know her and then show her what they think of her."
Theresa preferred the queen would focus on having a son with the king or visit her daughters who rarely saw their mother but she was still happy to see Vivienne wasn’t lost in being angry with the king. Instead, she was taking her anger out on Lord Blackthorn’s wife.
"Your friends will be kind enough to allow you to sit back and watch as they question her. I do not understand why she was spared. Surely she was aware of her parents’ actions," said Theresa.
Vivienne sat down to write the order she would have the servants send out to ladies across the town.
"In a couple of days, we will get the answers to your question. How much did she know about her parents and what trick did she use to marry Xavier?" Vivienne wondered, excited for the gathering which would come soon.
