Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So!-Chapter 122: Hybrid
Mina stared at him. She was biting her lips, seeming to be pondering whether to tell him what he wants to know, or not. ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ฃ๐ธ๐ซ๐ฎ๐.๐๐๐ถ
"To be honest, I donโt truly know what kind of a man you are, Lincoln, or why my sister even fell in love with you. I knew Darkwood better. But you.... She seemed to have also loved your brother and forgotten about you."
Lincoln balled his fists. "Why are you doing this? Things happen, so what? My brother got her in the end, but so what? I am still the one she had a child with. My daughterโ"
"Your daughter who doesnโt even know youโre her biological father? Your daughter who thinks of you as nothing more than her evil uncle?" Mina was amused, shaking her head. "Youโ"
"Enough of it, Mina. I didnโt come here for any of this, okay?" He gritted his teeth. "Your sister fell out of love with me, fine! My brother was the winner in the end, I get it. Donโt rub it in my face!"
"This girl should have been Darkwoodโs daughter, not yours."
"Well, she is my daughter. Nothing can change that." He snarled. "So just tell me what is going on. I want to understand what is wrong with my daughter, what exactly she is, and what it has to do with your sister."
Mina stared at him.
They held eye contact for a long while before she sighed. "Fine. Iโll tell you the truth, then."
Lincoln shifted on his seat, sitting up as he gazed deeply at her.
"My sister isnโt just one thing, but two. A hybrid."
He frowned. "A what?"
"A hybrid."
Mina shrugged.
"Our mother is a witch. And our father... Have you ever heard of a... werewolf?"
"Huh?" Lincoln was dumbstruck. "What the hell kind of a question is that?"
"If you donโt mind your language here, Lincoln, Iโm going to have no choice but to kick you out. You want to know what our daughter is, no?"
"Of course I do."
"Then keep quiet and listen!" Mina glared.
She stood up from the sofa and adjusted her suit jacket as she proceeded toward the kitchen. Lincoln got you as well and followed after her while listening attentively.
"Wereolves are half human, half wolf. Shifters who transform into both creatures if they want. Now, our father was one, while our mother was a witch. So, when we were born, what do you think?"
Lincoln wasnโt sure, but he answered, "You were half of both? A mix of a werewolf gene and a witch gene?"
"Exactly." Mina ground some coffee and proceeded to make herself a cup. "Do you want one?"
"No. But thank you."
She continued, "My sister who is half a werewolf and half a witch met you, a human, and fell in love with you. Now, what do you think happened when your child was born?" she asked.
The answer was clear in Lincolnโs head, but somehow, he found it hard to believe. "Youโre telling me that..."
"Yes." Mina took a sip of her coffee as she turned to stare at him. "Your daughter is three things. A human, a bit of a witch, and a bit of uh werewolf. But sheโs more human than any of these two."
"What?"
"Yes. Your gene was stronger. Sheโs more human than any of those two, therefore there really are no physical traits, except her blood. At least for now. She looks like her mother, yes, but her hair, eyes, everything is inherited from you." She chuckled. "Itโs funny how that girl has yet to realize youโre her real father. I mean, surely sheโs not blind? She looks nothing like dark wood. Every other sibling inherited something from their father, all except her. Doesnโt she find it strange?"
"How would she?"
Lincoln was growing irritated.
"My brother raised her like she was his. He even gave almost all his assets to her. Not even to his own biological children. I felt..."
"You felt what?"
"That he was trying to replace me completely in every way possible."
Mina turned her head and stared straight at him. She cocked a brow. "Have you ever thought that maybe he genuinely cared and loved this girl as much as you did? I mean, he was the one she called father. He raised her all through. Every step of her life, he was there. He taught her everything she knew, not you, Lincoln. You were absentโ"
"I wasnโt absent because I wanted to!" Lincoln lost it. "He made me do it, okay? He forced me to be absent from my own daughterโs life. Do you think I wanted this? That bastard was punishing me. He stole so many years away from me. And not once, not even once did I ever hear my own daughter call me father. But every single fucking day, I had to sit through the horror of watching her refer to him as father when I was and am the deserving of that title."
His face was painted with so much hurt.
"It wasnโt fair... Itโs not... fair."
Minaโs face shifted with sympathy. Pity glinted in her eyes and she exhaled. "You... slept with his wife though..."
"And Iโm sorry. I was angry at him, and in that state, I indulged her and everything happened. I felt sorry, I felt guilty okay? I apologized. He didnโtโ"
"Donโt you think he also felt hurt just the way you are right now?" Mina asked. "My sister was the woman he loved. She loved him too. But you indulged heed by... Lincoln you... You knew my sister was vulnerable to alcohol, no? She was intoxicated. You went ahead, letting her. Forgetting she wasnโt in her right senses."
She balled her hands. "Do you know how horrible she felt? She may have loved you once, but she loved Darkwood. An affair was not something she ever wanted. But even then, my sweet sister still forgave you and even... she even still kept you updated about this child. Why wouldnโt Darkwood be mad at you? Why wouldnโt he punish you? You didnโt just take advantage of his wife, you... You betrayed him. To be honest, you donโt deserve to be this girlโs father. If anyone did, it was your brother, not you. But you robbed him of it."
Mina made her way out towards the living room and to the door. "Lincoln, I have told you everything you wanted to know. You may leave now."
Lincoln couldnโt lift his head. He could only keep his gaze lowered as he approached the door, ready to leave.
But he didnโt. Instead, he looked at her. "Mina, I am sorryโ"
"Donโt apologize to me, Lincoln. I am neither my sister nor Darkwood. They have both forgiven you, have they not?"
Lincoln couldnโt answer.
"Let go of the guilt. Itโs been twenty-five years now. Move on and try to be a proper father to that girl. Also, tell her the truth. She deserves to know. At least you owe her that much."
She slammed the door shut.
