Chapter 995: Damian and Casira

A group of ten warriors moved swiftly through the broken terrain of the Dark Land. The air shimmered faintly with lingering energy from countless past battles, and the ground was scarred with the ruins of ancient strongholds, grim reminders of the devastation left in the wake of war.

Each warrior bore the unmistakable features of the Faelaras: elegant, sharp ears that marked their elven heritage and translucent wings that glowed faintly in the moonlight. They were a proud and noble race, renowned for their beauty and mastery of energy control. But tonight, there was no trace of their usual grace; exhaustion and tension lined every face.

At the forefront of the group walked two figures, a young man and a young woman, both with golden hair and eyes the color of the sky after a storm. Their resemblance spoke of blood: they were siblings, Damian and Casira, scions of one of the great noble houses of the Faerathia Empire.

Their mission was simple in theory but daunting in practice: to locate the enigmatic figure that had shaken the balance of the Dark Land: the Shadow Sovereign.

For months, he had been striking from the shadows, destroying the Vorometallicae strongholds one by one, crippling their influence, and giving the Faerathia Empire a fighting edge. But no one had seen his face, nor did they understand his methods.

Even now, as they moved through yet another ruined fortress, not a single clue could be found. Every structure was leveled with surgical precision, every trace of life erased, leaving only silence.

By the time night fell, the group set up camp within the remains of a dead forest. The trees were ashen and hollow, their bark still humming with corrupted energy. Though all of them were Legends, even beings of their strength needed rest after days of ceaseless marching and reconnaissance.

A short distance from the others, Damian and Casira sat side by side on a fallen boulder, sharing a drink that gave off a faint golden fragrance. The rest of the team gathered around a dim flame, eating quietly but keeping their distance. Among the Faelaras, caste still mattered, even among equals in power.

Casira broke the silence first.

"You’ve been frowning for hours, brother," she said softly. "What troubles you?"

Damian’s expression tightened. He stared into the dark horizon, his voice low and uncertain. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

"I don’t understand how he’s doing it. The Shadow Sovereign might be powerful, but he’s no Lord. Even an extremely powerful Legend could not destroy this many strongholds alone. He must have an army—a large one—but we’ve found no trace of it. No energy signatures, no footprints, no magic residue... nothing. It’s as if they simply ceased to exist once the fight is over."

He paused, frustration crossing his face. Then a quiet, unfamiliar voice cut through the night.

"It’s not magic," the voice said calmly. "It’s a biological feature of my forces that keeps them hidden."

Both siblings froze. Their eyes widened in shock as they turned toward the source of the sound.

Atop a jagged stone just above their heads stood a man. He was tall—perhaps two meters—with hair as white as snow and eyes that glowed faintly with radiant light. His presence was overwhelming yet strangely tranquil, and his energy... it was unlike anything they had ever felt. Not oppressive, not divine—but utterly alien.

Neither Damian nor Casira had sensed him approach. That realization sent a cold shiver down their spines. They were both Superior Legends, masters of their senses and energy, and yet this man had appeared among them undetected. If he had wanted them dead, there would have been no chance to resist.

Damian’s instinct took over. He reached for his sword, but Casira reacted instantly, throwing him a sharp glare that made him freeze. She glanced toward the rest of their companions in the distance. To her horror, they were still laughing and eating, oblivious to what was happening.

"An illusion..." she realized. Whoever this man was, he had concealed not only his presence but the entire interaction from everyone around them. That kind of mastery was beyond comprehension.

Casira took a steadying breath and turned back toward the stranger.

"I assume you are the one they call the Shadow Sovereign?"

The man smiled faintly.

"That is the name you have given me," he replied. "But yes, I am the one you’ve been searching for. You’ve shown great persistence—crossing rivers, mountains, even a volcano—to find me. I thought it only proper to finally show myself."

Casira’s eyes narrowed as his words sank in. He had been watching them all along. For how long, she couldn’t guess—but it was clear that if he chose to leave now, they would never be able to find him again.

She quickly composed herself, clasping her hands before bowing gracefully.

"Then allow us to greet you properly. I am Casira of House Elara, and this is my brother, Damian."

Damian hesitated for a moment, then followed her example, bowing deeply.

The stranger tilted his head slightly, his expression thoughtful.

"I had heard your people were insufferably arrogant," he said, a hint of amusement in his tone. "But your manners do not match the rumors."

A faint, bittersweet smile touched Casira’s lips.

"The war with the Vorometallicae has taught us many lessons. It has cost us dearly—but it has also shown us humility. We once believed ourselves untouchable. Now we know we are not as high in the cosmic order as we once imagined."

The True Depravita’s smile deepened, though his eyes grew distant, contemplative. He understood that truth all too well. It was easy for a race to grow arrogant when no one could challenge them—but when faced with extinction, pride burned away, leaving only reality.

"Good," he said at last. "That realization will serve your people well in the days to come."

Silence fell for a moment, broken only by the faint hum of corrupted wind. Then, with calm finality, he added:

"I am Vlad Xaos, Ruler of the Xaos Kingdom, and Archduke of the Graecia Empire."

Secrecy had always been vital. The Xaos Kingdom could not allow the Vorometallicae Race to discover their movements too early. Every strike, every infiltration, and every alliance had been orchestrated with precision and silence. Yet, Vlad knew that such secrecy could not last forever.

By this point, the actions of the True Depravitas had already caused cataclysmic shifts across multiple Doomsday Worlds. The very balance of power that the Vorometallicae lords had maintained for centuries was beginning to crumble. They might not yet know who was behind the relentless destruction, but even the most arrogant Lords of that race were not fools. Sooner or later, they would connect the dots.

And once they did, there would be no hiding.

That was why Vlad no longer bothered with deception. There could be no alliance built upon shadows. To gain trust, he had to step into the light—even if it meant exposing his identity.

The siblings froze. Their eyes widened as if lightning had struck the very air between them.

The Graecia Empire—that name alone was enough to silence armies. It was one of the great superpowers of the universe, a civilization so vast that entire star systems paid tribute to it. Even after enduring a brutal civil war, its strength had only grown. Dozens of new Legends were said to rise every month, each more formidable than the last.

But what truly made their blood run cold was the mention of the empire’s ruler—the White Death, Alexandro, whose name inspired both reverence and terror.

Rumors claimed he had transcended even the limits of Lordhood. After the civil war, some rival Lords had attempted to take advantage of the chaos, believing the empire was weakened. Instead, they were erased from existence—entire fleets vaporized, cities turned to dust. The White Death had not simply survived; he had ascended.

And this man before them—this calm, smiling figure—was his right hand.

The name Vlad Xaos was not unknown to them. His feats during the past few years had spread across the realms: the man who broke the siege of the Voroes in the Land of the Three Calamities, who led a rescue force into Valhalla itself, who faced the armies of Heaven and Hell without bowing to either.

Even the White Death himself had once declared publicly:

"There is no one stronger within the empire than Vlad Xaos—save for me."

Hearing that from a being like Alexandro was enough to send ripples through the entire cosmos.

And yet... as Damian and Casira looked at him now, confusion clouded their awe. The sensors of the Doomsday World had detected no surge of Lord-level energy. No disturbance, no spatial collapse—nothing that would signal a being of that magnitude.

Could this man truly be the same Vlad Xaos? Or had the legends exaggerated him into something greater than he was?

Vlad, of course, noticed their hesitation. A faint smile crossed his face, neither offended nor surprised. He did not waste time trying to convince them. There were far more important matters at hand.

"Tell me," he said, his voice calm but commanding, "do either of you possess the authority to forge an alliance?"

The question broke their trance. Damian and Casira exchanged quick glances before shaking their heads in unison.

"No," Casira admitted. "We were sent only to locate you. Once that task was complete, we were to escort you to our stronghold. There, a member of the Imperial Family will meet you and discuss the terms directly."

Vlad nodded slowly, his expression unreadable.

"I see," he murmured. "Then let’s go."
