Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 119 - S-rank?!
Chapter 119: Chapter 119 - S-rank?!
As the truck drove them to the frontlines, Logan’s ears perked up as he overheard the conversation of a mercenary beside him.
’’It really is weird, isn’t it?’’ he said, shaking his head. ’’Sometimes they siege the city five nights in a row, and sometimes there are days without another attack.’’
A muscular man beside him shrugged.
’’Who knows,’’ he responded. ’’It doesn’t matter much anyway.’’
’’They keep coming, more money for us.’’
The other man laughed, patting him on the back.
’’That’s right,’’ he repeated several times, ignoring the uncomfortable gazes from the other mercenaries in the truck.
Logan wasn’t focused on their laughter though. His interest was piqued by the first thing they said. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
’Sometimes five nights in a row... sometimes nothing.’ He got quiet. ’That does not sound like a coincidence.’
The sea creatures aren’t meant to be highly intelligent, not even at higher ranks.
Alarm bells went off in his head as he thought deeper about the siege. More and more things started not making sense to him.
’None of the S-ranks or even SSS-ranks have stepped in to wipe out the waves,’ he thought, frowning. ’The only time they showed up... was when that S-rank Leviathan appeared.’
That wasn’t laziness.
That was restraint.
’They’re holding back... because they’re waiting for something.’
A chill ran down his spine as he thought about it.
He leaned forward slightly, his mind racing.
’They must’ve already realized these waves aren’t random. That something is coordinating these attacks.’
His mind wandered to the S-rank Leviathan, but he quickly shook his head.
’They wouldn’t need to worry about a single S-rank, not with the number of S-rank hunters here.’
This was about something else.
Something bigger.
’It could be more hidden S-ranks underwater,’ he hoped. ’Or... it could be a catastrophic class creature.’
Logan shivered as he thought about them.
The catastrophic class was a class solely created for creatures that far surpassed average S-ranks of their species—most easily capable of wiping an entire city off the map.
’The ones that have destroyed cities are named and tracked as closely as possible,’ he thought. ’But the ones that destroyed entire countries...? There were only a few. Each one was given an emperor rank.’
Logan exhaled deeply, clearing his mind.
’It can’t be an emperor rank,’ he thought, shaking his head. ’The city would have been evacuated if that were the case.’
He didn’t know what exactly the military was waiting for, or if he was just being paranoid, but his instincts told him it wasn’t anything good.
Hearing a metallic clang, Logan snapped out of his thoughts.
’’Frontlines up ahead!’’ a voice rang out from the front. ’’Everyone out!’’
The other mercenaries stood up, grabbing their weapons just as the truck’s back doors swung open.
Logan stood up with them, stepping out of the truck in the snow as mana turrets around him shook the ground.
Glancing at the hundreds of D and C-rank creatures, he couldn’t help but hope for a B-rank to appear during this siege.
’If one appears, it won’t be this early,’ he thought, stepping forward. ’But if it does... I’ll be the first to reach it.’
Jogging out of the city’s barrier with his glaive in his hand, Logan quickly scanned the vicinity for any groups of C-rank creatures.
Narrowing his eyes, he spotted a group of creatures with rock-like spikes sticking out of their backs, their complete bodies almost twice his size.
’C-rank Thornshells,’ he thought, dashing forward.
They noticed him too late.
By the time the first Thornshell let out a distorted screech, Logan already hung above it with his glaive glowing in red flames.
His glaive tore through a gap in its armor, slitting its throat with one flaming arc.
’I need to minimize the mana I use,’ he thought, calculating every potential move as he glanced at the next Thornshell.
The remaining Thornshells didn’t wait, conjuring several earth spikes dripping with purple liquid in the air.
Logan quickly dashed behind the slain Thornshell as the spikes flew toward him.
’Poison will always remain bothersome,’ he thought, jumping up from behind the body.
Quickly binding one of the Thornshells using his Ghoulbind chains, he landed on the ground and dashed toward it.
Dodging several poison spikes, his glaive burned brightly as he melted through the bound Thornshell’s armor.
The Thornshell let out a sickening screech as Logan’s glaive tore deep into its stomach.
’That’s two,’ he thought, his phoenix fire consuming the struggling Thornshell from the inside.
Glancing at the remaining two, he frowned as he saw them shuffling through the snow, retreating as fast as they could manage.
Dashing after them, Logan easily caught up to them and slashed through both of their shells, setting them on fire with his fire’s special properties.
Logan turned away, looking through the wave to see if any B-ranks were there yet.
Behind him, the two creatures let out horrifying screeches as smoke rose out of their shells, flying far into the sky.
’Nothing yet,’ he thought, narrowing his eyes as he looked through the waves of creatures.
Shaking his head, he looked at the nearest group of C-ranks, gripping his glaive tightly as he dashed toward them.
Just as he killed the first fishman from the next group, a loud horn echoed through the battlefield.
’’Retreat! Now!’’ a man from a nearby mercenary group shouted to his teammates.
Logan quickly jumped back, scanning the horizon.
The nearby mercenary groups retreated swiftly as Logan’s eyes narrowed.
’Three A-ranks,’ he counted, ’And fifteen B-ranks?’
Suddenly, the ground started shaking violently.
His eyes widened as he saw something else far in the distance.
’’What... is that?’’ he mumbled, water pooling off a massive creature in the distance.
More and more A and B-ranks climbed out of the water beside it.
That’s when the massive crab-like creature really got into view.
It was the size of several villas stacked together, with a massive, mountain-like rock on its back.
’’An S-rank?’’ Logan mumbled, taking a few steps back.
The massive crab stopped moving, its eyes, each the size of a small house, scanning the beachline.
Suddenly, it let out a loud roar, splitting the waves of water in front of it and crushing several low-rank creatures.
A massive water wave, similar to the one Logan had seen just a few days ago, appeared on the horizon.
’’Oh shit,’’ he mumbled, gripping his glaive tightly.
