Chapter 80: Impatient

Brent’s POV

I was becoming impatient as the days wore on. I asked Chelle as many questions as I could to learn more about her preferences and dislikes. Despite the fact that I’d prefer to see her naked and on the bed first, I had dinner planned for her. The conversation heated up as we discussed what we wanted to do to each other, and I was relieved that I would soon be inside her. For a night with her, I had grown tired of extending my hand, which was contrary to my usual behavior. I didn’t want anyone else for the time being. I doubted that we’d crash and burn once we met, but there was a chance. Some of her defenses had been down, but her appearance remained a mystery.

The more I looked at Lara, the more I wished she looked like her. My intuition told me he was a very fortunate man because she appeared to be falling head over heels for someone. Her clothes were getting sexier, but she remained true to her classic style with an edge. She had her hair cut short and a big grin on her face. Her dark blue eyes sparkled with excitement.

Before meeting Chelle I let go of her and prayed for her success. The Sunset Marquis was where we first met a few weeks ago. Since she had admitted that seafood was her favorite, I had reserved a villa and some of the best seafood in the area for us. Between long sessions on the bed, I prepared a snack spread for us to nibble on, which would be placed on the dresser as well as a nightstand. We had a small kitchen in the suite because I was prepared to go to great lengths to win her heart. Everything was in place for me.

I realized I was running on adrenaline as the week came to an end. Chelle and I were supposed to meet on Saturday at 4 p.m., and I was already in the room. Despite the fact that she sounded just as excited as I was when we spoke, I was terrified she’d cancel. Neither did I like the idea of this not working out.

I met Lara for lunch in my office while working on a report that was first thing in the morning. She tapped away at the MacBook I’d given her as she ate sushi, her hair pulled back from her face. When the deadline was pushed back yet again, "What’s the point?" Lara muttered under her breath as she sipped her tea. For the time being, "We’ll be fine." I could tell she was irritated by the way she looked at me as I sipped my coffee.

"It’s a fact of life in this industry." Yes, I am sure that you are aware of that. In front of my eyes, she was unraveling, and I could see it clearly.

"Yes, I see your point. My body just isn’t right. "I’m sorry," Lara said as she shook her head. It’s going to be a busy few days for me.

"You could work just one job," I suggested to him as I reached for another roll on the trays.

"I’m not as rich as you," she said. When she spoke, I looked at her and listened to her. "I’m sorry for the inconvenience. There is no one else who can help me and it takes a lot of effort. I’m not a fan of surprises."

"Do you think I’m not paying you enough?" Then she turned to face me and sighed.

"The pay is fantastic here. I just have student loans that I’m trying to pay off before I die, and I’m very particular about where I live. In the end, it’s up to me. The time has come for me to put an end to my whining."

"Don’t worry about it." The woman forced a smile on her face, but I assured her that I was there to listen. "There’s that smile. One of the best I’ve seen."

"How attractive do you find me?" Lara’s question came out of nowhere, and I was taken aback. There is no denying that I am a bit overweight and that I am not perfect.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" To which I replied, "What do you mean?" she looked at me, wide-eyed. It’s hard to believe that you’re so beautiful. That’s what I thought I’d explained to you. Even now, you’re even more beautiful than before. "Doesn’t your boyfriend compliment you? Why are you skeptical?"

I muttered under my breath, "Boyfriend," as I fixed my gaze on the road ahead. I thought I had one of those, but I guess I was mistaken. The answer is obvious: "Of course," I respond. He’s a great guy. She describes herself as "just a girl." If I told him the truth, he’d know I was lying to him. If Brent wanted, he could have any woman he desired, and I was sure they were all beautiful. For the sake of our privacy, we did not discuss that aspect of our lives. Simply put, he appeared to be in a good place, or at the very least on the cusp of one. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"It’s obvious that he needs to improve his communication skills." Even though we’d finished our sushi, we both grumbled about the fact that we still hadn’t finished our workouts before we left the building. After a few hours at home, my phone time with Chelle was severely limited. Before she came along, I had never been challenged by a woman in my life. "As soon as you wake up, I’ll be waiting for you. "It’s my turn to bring the donuts and the coffee," I say. I kept a wary eye on Lara as she walked down the street.

"Come along for the ride." Suddenly, as she returned my gaze, I screamed, "it’s pitch black." She was only a few blocks away, but it was still dangerous for a woman to walk these streets at night.

Then she followed me to my car, where she let me open her door for her. While driving down the road, I stopped to let her out of the car, and she smiled as I did so. I wondered if I should accompany Lara to her door as she approached the secure entrance to her complex. I had to let go of my feelings of loyalty toward Lara in order to move forward. Someone was watching out for her.

Sighing and driving home, I changed into shorts and took a hot shower before going to bed.. I sat on my bed and checked the time before calling Chelle. Despite the fact that I just wanted to hear her voice, the call went straight to voicemail when I ended the conversation. Even though we were only three days away from a meeting, I was already missing her at work. In particular, I missed the sound of her laugh and voice. I was exhausted and sank into my sheets, hoping against hope that I would be able to get some shut-eye before work. If Chelle and I hit it off, we could spend the entire weekend together. When Lara helped me get through this week, I was thankful for her support during a stressful time. She was aware of the situation and had a plan of action in place. An abrupt end to a dream in which an unseen woman was riding me and shouting my name made me groan when the alarm went off. I ran and showered before getting ready for work. I hopped in the car and drove while yawning and leaning back in my seat, all the while listening to the news. As the day wore on, I made a promise to myself that I’d make it to the weekend and get some exercise in.

A strong cup of coffee helped wake Lara up, as she had been feeling a bit under the weather. Her chair reclined before she finished the report from last night and opened a new document in Word. "So, here we go with number two, shall we?"

Her expression narrowed at me, and I cracked a smile at the joke. "Sorry. I find it amusing," he said.

A "knucklehead" is what I would call you. She gave a wry grin. "Sleep is a necessity for you."

We ordered takeout for lunch so we could keep working, and when I went to refill my coffee cup, I could see the looks I was getting. In spite of the rumors, no one on the team knew anything about my personal situation. Knowing that I was speaking to a phone sex operator was an entirely different experience for me. Even thinking about meeting her because I was in love with her sounded ridiculous, let alone saying it out loud. My assistant’s reputation, on the other hand, was in much better shape thanks to the rumors that circulated.
