Chapter 83: He Drew Me Closer

Lara’s POV

The room was thick with our heat and scent as we relaxed, and I was trying to make sense of it all. He’d been my boss since the beginning. Even though I was aware of the similarities, it never occurred to me to put two and two together until now. In recognition of the feelings in the room and the incredible attraction that surrounded us, I laughed as he drew me closer.

As much as I would have liked him to be Brent, logic won out in the end. In the end, I caved into my feelings and needs after a long battle, feeling better than I had in years. With all the sex we’d done together, I had a complete picture of him. As friends, potential lovers, and people in love, he was right in front of me at all times. He appeared to be in love with someone else every day, and I wished that I could undo my decision, but it was always me.

I was certain that Brent was the love of my life. In thinking about the next day or even the next week, I was both excited and terrified at once. When Brent said we were going to concentrate on tonight, I rolled in his arms and buried my face in his broad chest. He was exactly what I’d hoped for in a man: strong and muscular. I pressed my lips firmly against his skin and tasted the dampness of his sweat as I heard him take a deep breath. It wasn’t the first time I’d gotten him to perspire in such a way. My mind was filled with memories as I licked his small, hard nipple. Brent groaned and tightened his grip on my back as I gently bit him.

Despite our hunger, we were able to make love one more time before it became too much for us. In the bathroom, I slipped on one of the robes and noticed Brent’s knowing grin as he called down to order our meal. "What?" How did he feel about the shorts he was about to put on? It was a pleasure to see the man in his natural state. Looking at him, I played with my hair for a few moments before pulling it up into a messy bun.

"Are you happy with what you’ve seen?" Brent teased me as I felt the heat wash over me.

After following him into the living room and taking my first look around, I said, "I always have. Brent, you have to see this room."

His words were comforting: "Only the best for you," as I smiled at him. During the time we were waiting for food, we sat on the couch and talked while getting cold water from the fridge.

He drank a sip of water and sat down. There is a good chance, however, that you are not the kind of person who enjoys sleeping with strangers.

She denies it, saying, "I’m not. Because I have no other choice."

What was it that drew Brent’s attention? I wasn’t sure how dating a coworker would affect things because I hadn’t dated anyone since starting my new job. Brent’s expression was one of pure curiosity and warmth, and he didn’t seem to be judging me.

"That’s what my friend told me about; it was a good way for me to get ahead when I graduated and realized how much I owed on my loans. I didn’t have this job at the time, and it seemed like a good way to get ahead." I simply shrugged.

"At first, it was humiliating to me. Having regular clients and getting to know them made it easier to earn a living, and it felt great to be able to support myself."

"Does your family have a lot of members?" Brent inquired as someone knocked on the door. He stood and let them in, telling the young man to leave it by the table with a view of the city before slipping him a bill. When we were alone, he asked me to join him, and I walked across the room to the window to see what was outside. "Is this all connected somehow?"

"There you go," he says in agreement. "Now my mother and I are the only ones left, and she is a professional artist in San Diego. Despite the fact that we spend a lot of time together, she appears content with her life." I responded to his nod and stare as I spoke. Because of my job, I was privy to important information about his family. Because of our conversations, I had a better idea of who he was. Do you believe that what you’ve just said is true? Nodding his head slowly and solemnly, he seemed to expect my verdict on him.

We talked about how he thought about it every day and wished he could have done more, but life is unpredictable, and it gets messy at times. "It dawned on me tonight that I’d never felt anything like it until I felt your arms around me. Regardless of who or what I’ve done in the past, this is a new experience for me."

As I inhaled him, the addiction took hold, I confessed, "I felt that, too."

He said, "Let’s eat." when he felt my stomach rumbling against him. To his delight, there was delicious seafood pasta, salad, and crusty bread waiting for him when Brent removed the lids. Before placing the plates on the table, he put a generous amount of food on each of them. Brent poured some wine for us from the bottle on the tray and looked across the small table at me as he sat down with us. My preference for being so close to him over a larger one that was in a room off of the kitchen was clear. As I savored a bite of pasta with a fork and a taste of the white sauce, I moaned.

Before he finished his wine and cleared his throat, we had a short conversation about the city and his job. "You’re welcome to stay with me over the weekend if you’d like, Lara."

In response to the question, "How about Monday?" I inquire. I had a question for him as he licked his lip. This is unacceptable, Brent.

"I get it," I respond.

Brent said, "I agree with that, but I think we could keep it between ourselves. In other words, I don’t want to simply fuck you and move on. I’d like to see a little more for us," he said. Brent’s gaze returned to mine as he combed his hair with his fingers. A few moments ago, I was talking to Danny.

As you know, he’s expressed an interest in moving you to his office, and you’re aware of this. I’m not sure when, but it won’t be too far away now. "Given this new development, I thought it might be possible. I’m not sure how you feel about that idea initially."

"Would you like to visit New York City?" Upon hearing my question, he smiled and replied.

"The city is beautiful," I agreed.

Brent exclaimed, "You’d learn so much with them." My eyes widened.

When we see each other in this light, what do you think? My curiosity was aroused by his chuckle.

"I, too, have two residences in the area. There’s also a brownstone and a house on Long Island. To supervise the company from afar, I could simply relocate there. "

"Isn’t it something you’ve thought about?" I inquired as he leaned his head back and smiled at the table. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"This night, I’m not taking myself so seriously. However, I like to keep my options open whenever possible, so I didn’t recognize you. Let me introduce myself. My name is Lara and I’m a new employee here at the office." His response to my glare: "Moving isn’t an issue for me, not to be with you. I’ll be returning to see them in Colorado for the first time since they announced they were expecting their first child. I don’t have any ties apart from him and the woman I’m seeing."

"Would you like to have sex with me?" I inquired as he smirked at me.

"Do I not understand what you are saying? As he stood up to finish his wine," Brent inquired. He left the room for a moment, and I looked around the room and out at the lights of the buildings as I pondered his words.

There was no upper or lower limit on the number of participants. I didn’t know Brent’s exact age, but he was at least fourteen years older than me. He was in good physical shape and looked good for his age, which was something I was looking for in a man. He had a lot of money, but I wasn’t in need of it. I craved sex as I sat here waiting for my meal to be digested with him. With his toned upper body rising to meet my gaze, his handsome face smiled back at me as he walked back into the room. When Brent walked over to the couch, he said, "I prefer this to you not looking at me at all," as I sat down with my wine.

"It was a little unnerving for a while, wasn’t it?" As he nodded and sat down next to me, I inquired. "When I told you there was no future for us, I nearly died. No matter how happy I am, I’ve always been terrified of losing my job. My intuition tells me that fate has bestowed this upon us, and it’s too good to resist."

Brent said, "I agree," as I leaned in for a kiss and gazed into his eyes. As he dragged me over his body, he tasted like wine and dinner spices as I opened my mouth to let him in. A new urgency gripped us as we dashed back to the bedroom, cleaning up the food and placing the tray in front of the door.

We must have lingered in each other’s company for several hours, dozing intermittently. I’d either wake up with Brett inside my mouth or between my legs, depending on who woke up first. I had a minor ache, but I wasn’t going to refuse him now that we had laid such a solid foundation for our relationship. To tell anyone the story of how we first met made me blush. As he drew me closer to his body, I pushed the fear of stumbling into work on Monday from my mind.
