Bio-engineered Dinosaur in the immortal world-Chapter 49: Giving up
Wei Long gritted his teeth.
His body ached in every possible way.
His muscles screamed, his bones felt as if they had been eaten a bit by bit on by the jaws of death, and every step sent a jolt of pain rippling through his frame. But he refused to submit.
The system’s message loomed in his mind:
Three more chances left.
Now, it has dwindled to two. His stubborn nature wouldn’t let him give in.
He still had options.
He needed food.
Now.
Wei Long’s sharp eyes swept across the savanna.
The golden-brown grass swayed gently under the warm breeze, rippling like a sea of molten gold.
The air was thick with the scent of earth and distant prey. His tongue flicked out instinctively, tasting the air. He was a predator—an apex one. He shouldn’t be struggling like this.
The lionesses had fled, vanishing into the depths of the sanctuary.
Their cubs?
Gone as well.
He had hoped to feast on the weaker ones, but they had disappeared like ghosts into the tall grass. He stalked forward, every movement sluggish but determined. His tail swayed behind him, dragging slightly as his legs threatened to buckle beneath him.
The pain was relentless, like molten iron seeping into his very marrow.
He stumbled across a trail—paw prints. Smaller than the Empower Lion’s but fresh. Lion cubs. His stomach growled in approval. Easy prey. They should be near.
He followed the tracks, weaving between the scattered acacia trees.
The shadows stretched long under the setting sun, the horizon painted in hues of crimson and orange. His breath came in slow, ragged gasps, but he pushed forward.

They couldn’t have gone far.
As he moved, his body protested. His wounds burned like open fire pits, his legs threatened to buckle, but he dug his claws into the dirt, grounding himself. He refused to fail.
Minutes stretched into what felt like hours. His patience thinned. The cubs—where were they?!
A scent.
His head snapped toward a dense thicket.
The scent of young flesh, of fear, of weakness.
There!
Wei Long’s body tensed, ready to pounce. His injuries howled at him, but he ignored them. Just one kill. That was all he needed.
He moved closer, slow, careful, each step deliberate. His golden eyes locked onto the spot. The air was still. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.
Silence.
Wei Long lunged.
The grass parted—
Nothing.
He snapped his jaws shut on empty air. His heart pounded. He sniffed furiously, searching.
The scent was strong.
They should be here!
A rustle.
Further ahead.
The cubs had moved.
A snarl rumbled deep in his throat.
His body was failing him. He should’ve been faster. Stronger. This shouldn’t be happening.
But he was still Wei Long. And Wei Long never gave up.
He turned sharply, forcing his wounded legs to move. He pushed forward, teeth bared, but the moment he took another step, his vision blurred. His body swayed. His legs gave out beneath him.
Wei Long collapsed.
The world spun.
His breath came in sharp gasps. His vision darkened at the edges. His muscles trembled, his tail twitched uncontrollably.
A message appeared in his mind. Ding! The host has wasted two chances. Only one remains.
His eyes widened.
One left. Just one.
For the first time, the reality of the situation pressed down on him. This wasn’t just about pride or hunger anymore. This was survival.
Wei Long’s claws dug into the dirt. His breathing was ragged. His chest rose and fell with labored effort. He had pushed too far, ignored too many warning signs.
His body was failing.
One more chance.
One last chance.
Not long after, Wei Long chose a new target. He prowled the edges of the murky river, his keen eyes scanning the waters.
The humid air carried the scent of mud and decay, and the occasional splash hinted at movement beneath the surface.
"There must be crocodiles in here," he prehistorically muttered.
After all, crocodiles will never disappear easily at some point and they couldn’t run that fast with their short legs—Wei Limb believed.
Soon, he took a slow, measured steps toward the riverbank, his bio-engineered muscles aching with every movement.
His wounds throbbed, and though his body screamed for him to stop, he refused.
He was determined to hunt. He had to eat, to heal—no matter what. But as soon as his massive form got closer, the waters erupted with motion.
Crocodiles, their thick scales glistening under the sun, surged away from the shore in a panic.
The largest of them barely hesitated before diving deeper into the murky depths, tails thrashing violently.
Wei Long stood still, baffled. He had expected a fight, a chance to overpower the reptiles with sheer strength and skill.
Instead, they fled at the mere sight of him. "Are you kidding me? Even you guys are running?" he growled, frustration mounting.
With a low hiss, he turned away from the river and trudged further inland.
How come they are so fast? They are like puppies but with speed.
It was too fast for the current injured him..
Soon enough, his eyes scan the golden savanna stretched endlessly, dotted with patches of tall grass swaying in the wind. He sniffed the air, searching for another potential meal.
His senses locked onto a distant herd of green-scale buffalo, grazing near the shadow of a lone acacia tree.
Their enormous bodies shifted lazily as they chewed on the dry grass.
Wei Long smirked. "Finally, something that won’t run."
But he was wrong.
As soon as he took a step forward, the entire herd reacted instantly. The moment his scent reached them, the buffalo bolted, their hooves pounding against the earth like rolling thunder.
Dust kicked up in massive clouds as they stampeded away, their sheer speed shocking Wei Long into momentary silence. Even the slowest of them moved faster than he expected, disappearing into the distance in mere moments.
Wei Long’s eyes twitched. "You’ve got to be joking. Even buffalo? What kind of joke is this?!"
His frustration turned to dread as a familiar chime rang in his mind.
Ding!
Zero chances remaining.
A system prompt appeared before his eyes, glowing ominously.
The host has reached the limit of survival chances.
Would the host like to continue refusing healing, or will the host accept death?
Wei Long’s breathing grew shallow.
The pain in his body was unbearable now. His bio-engineered abilities had always been a source of power, an overwhelming force that made him stronger, but now, they were the very thing forcing him into submission.
He gritted his teeth, staring at the message.
His mind screamed at him to resist, to push through the pain and keep going. But he wasn’t stupid.
His body was at its limit.
He could feel the weakness seeping into his bones, the exhaustion clouding his thoughts. If he kept going like this, he really would die.
He didn’t want that.
For some unknown reason, he didn’t want that!
For the first time, he hesitated.
Ding!
Final warning.
Will the host surrender to the Bio-engineered instinct and be healed or wait for death?
Wei Long exhaled sharply.
He had no choice.
