Chapter 248: Is this a new superpower?
Andrew was busy working away in the kitchen. He was making little quiches so that they could eat them quickly. They had run a little late after their stunt, especially when it came to clean up. They had both decided, much to Andrew’s dismay, that he should leave Maxwell to the bathroom first, let him get a shower, and then they would switch.
So, Andrew decided on quiches for breakfast. If the others arrived, they would still be able to eat them on the go, and Andrew had made sure their to-go cups, which they rarely used, were ready and clean. He even made sure that a little tray showing off the teas and the small coffee selection that they had was ready for when the others came over.
Maxwell, washed, cleaned, glowing, was lounging in the living room while he waited for breakfast. Andrew wanted him in the kitchen, and Maxwell wanted to be in the kitchen, but it wasn’t the best idea. Andrew was feeling a sense of possessiveness that was not okay, and had communicated that with Maxwell.
Andrew didn’t like that Maxwell was finding humour in his behaviour, but Maxwell had made a good point. If he didn’t find humour in it, there was a chance that he could get scared, so Andrew shut his mouth and let Maxwell feel his feelings.
When knocks sounded at the door, Maxwell looked up from his phone, where he was sitting on the couch, and was about to get up to answer it. Andrew panicked.
"I got it!" Andrew shouted from the kitchen where he was finishing up making breakfast and raced out, wiping his hands on his apron before he went to the door. Maxwell looked surprised by Andrew’s reaction, but Andrew couldn’t help it.
He knew that Maxwell was capable. He could answer the door. But after what they had done, it was an unfortunate side effect that Andrew hoped would fade once they went outside. Andrew knew he wasn’t a delicate flower that shouldn’t raise a finger and should be protected, but here Andrew was, answering the door after checking it because he just couldn’t bear the thought of Maxwell getting snatched away by someone else. Especially at the door.
It was just Luis and Thomas, and when Andrew opened the door for them, they smiled.
"Ah. Good morning Andrew. I hope we’re not intruding. We’re a little earlier than we said we would arrive." Andrew waved his hand dismissively at Luis’ words.
"It’s perfectly fine. I’m just finishing up making breakfast. Did you two want anything?" Andrew asked, stepping back and letting them enter before he closed the door behind them. He saw another car pulling up, and sighed.
Maybe he could let Maxwell answer the next door. With Luis and Thomas here, the chances of him being kidnapped were lower. There was also the security team that was around. They were fine. They were okay. No one was going to steal his omega.
Andrew turned, heading towards the kitchen.
"Oh, maybe just tea or coffee?" Thomas called and Andrew raised a hand, showing that he heard him. Andrew was thinking about the little tray he had made, and wondered if he should just bring it out a gasp had Andrew freezing. He spun, about to ask about what had happened when he realised Luis had rushed towards Maxwell and was pulling down the neckline of his shirt.
Andrew felt his stomach drop. He wasn’t sure if he should pale, or flush as Luis stared in shock at all of the bite marks. Maxwell’s cheeks were bright red as his Mom manhandled him.
"What on earth? Did this happen last night?" Luis demanded, her gaze wide as she turned towards Andrew, worry in her expression. Thomas looked shocked as well, and his gaze was a little harsh when he looked towards Andrew. There was an accusation in his expression. "Did you bite him?" Luis asked, throwing the accusation towards Andrew.
He didn’t know what to say. He was flustered, and there was another knock at the door. Maxwell put down his phone, struggling to get to his feet as he placed his hands on top of his Mom’s.
"I asked him to do this." Maxwell told her, not even hesitating in lying. Or was it? Andrew couldn’t quite remember, but he did know that Maxwell had liked every second of it. He’d even-
Jesus Andrew, not with his parents around, and especially not right now!
"And Andrew didn’t mark me. They are all on my shoulders." Maxwell said. He hesitated. "This was all Friday. Andrew didn’t touch me like that last night. He was...very good." Maxwell sounded quite proud of him. "I didn’t even think about it. I’ll go put on a turtle neck." Maxwell got his Mom to release him as he, with a smile, headed for his room.
"Uh, wait! I didn’t-" Luis stuttered, and Maxwell laughed.
"No no. I’m not upset. I just don’t want to be teased by the others about this. Andrew is already on edge, I don’t want him to be even more upset." Maxwell stuck his tongue out at Andrew. He was stood frozen in the doorway of the kitchen. "Shouldn’t you be keeping an eye on breakfast, Baby?" He teased and Andrew jerked, tearing his gaze away from Maxwell’s shoulders and turned, darting for the stove.
Andrew could hear the others in the living room, another round of knocks from the door that hadn’t been answered yet, and if he listened very carefully, the sound of Maxwell in their bedroom. He tried to tune that out. That was a weird thing to be able to hear, even if he was now an alpha.
He shouldn’t listen in on someone like that.
"It’s okay Andy. It’s fine." Maxwell’s soft whisper had Andrew freezing, about to pull out the little mini cupcake tin quiches from the oven. Andrew was able to get the quiches out and onto the stovetop, but he was definitely rattled. He hadn’t expected Maxwell to talk to him. He pressed his hand against his chest, his heart racing.
He had to take a minute to gather himself, taking a few deep breaths to manage his pheromones before he just couldn’t. That was too damn much for his rut muddled mind to handle right now.
He moved through the kitchen, not even greeting who had just arrived and headed for the bedroom. He flung open the door, didn’t catch sight of Maxwell, before he turned towards the walk in closet.
Maxwell was in there, a little smirk on his face as soon as Andrew entered. Andrew frowned, crossing his arms as he stood in the doorway. He was confronting the man, not stupid enough to step in any more in the tiny, tight space with the omega.
"Why would you do that?" Andrew asked quietly, and Maxwell’s smile widened.
"You were able to hear me? I wasn’t sure if you were." Maxwell responded, before he looked a little proud of himself. Andrew had been so focused on confronting Maxwell that he had forgotten that the other man had gone to change. He had barged in on him while he was naked from the waist up, and Andrew stumbled back.
Damn it. Any inch of flesh the other man revealed was deadly to Andrew right now. His skin was so creamy, so smooth, and then, all of a sudden, there would be the marks that Andrew had left on him. Just smooth, soft skin as far as the eye could see, and then the claiming marks Andrew had left on him. Someone have mercy.
Andrew stared at the man who was just casually going through his clothes while Andrew had to pick his jaw up from the floor. The red marks left on his skin by Andrew did something to him. It wasn’t quite desire, but it was something deeper. A mixture of desire and possession, maybe throw in some good old obsession in there as well. He couldn’t tear his eyes off of him. It was a good thing that Maxwell had kept his top on this morning. Things could have derailed quickly otherwise.
"Andrew. You aren’t supposed to be alone with me right now." Maxwell teased, his blue eyes sliding towards him. Andrew was barely able to stop himself from wrapping his hands around Maxwell’s waist, hoisting him up in his arms and slamming him against the wall. Kissing him with an urgency that made his body quiver.
Andrew turned, clearing his throat. He ran a hand through his hair, adjusting his glasses as he tried to control himself.
"I shouldn’t be alone with you." Andrew repeated, echoing Maxwell’s words. Maxwell’s chuckle was soft, filling his ears and only made Andrew’s desires worse. "Just...don’t do that again, okay?" Andrew told him, glancing over his shoulder at Maxwell and Maxwell shrugged.
"I’ll try. But now that I know you can hear me when others can’t? That’s a hard thing to not abuse." Maxwell teased and Andrew groaned. Damn it. He should have ignored it. He was just so surprised that he hadn’t been able to stop himself from responding. Andrew felt like anyone else in his shoes would have done the same.
Who the hell thought that they would be able to hear their partner’s voice from not just another room, but through several walls? Andrew wondered if this was just the approaching rut, or if this was his new normal. It wasn’t like Andrew and Maxwell had tested this before.
"It might just be rut related." Andrew muttered out loud and Maxwell made a soft, thoughtful noise.
"Huh. I hadn’t considered that. Let’s test it when you’re out of it, hmm? Now you should go before the others get worried you’re having your wicked way with me." Maxwell teased and Andrew sighed.
"It’s too quiet for me to be having my wicked way with you. You aren’t moaning enough." Andrew told him, his face serious, and his eyes amber. Andrew slid his gaze towards Maxwell again, to find him frozen, his face warm, before a silly grin crossed his face.
"Oh. You’re right about that." He replied cheerfully. "Is breakfast almost ready?" Maxwell asked, as if to ignore the words they had just spoken. Andrew sighed, shaking his head before he felt his lips pull up for the first time in a while.
"Almost. I’ll get you a plate ready." Andrew muttered as he left the room, more flustered than before, but now relieved.
