Chapter 569: A man with a mission

Maxwell lay on his back in the semi dark room, Andrew’s hand in his own as the cool gel was placed on his stomach. The ceiling tiles above him was familiar and foreign at the same time. Andrew’s hand squeezed his own, forcing Maxwell to turn his head to look at him.

Andrew’s face was smiling, his eyes amber. Protective, caring, loving, the man had cried that morning over the act that they were doing right now, but had toughened up as soon as they had gotten into the car.

He had insisted on driving them on their own, not letting Maxwell call for a driver. He wanted to drive them together. He wanted to drive his family together to the hospital. That thought had made Maxwell melt inside.

His family. Their family.

Maxwell turned his gaze back to his Doctor, thankful that she was able to be with him during this moment. Her gaze was focused, working on getting her part of this set up before she turned to Maxwell, smiling.

"Are you ready, Mr. Beckett?" She asked and Maxwell exhaled slowly, then nodded. When the wand-like thing touched his stomach and pushed in, he winced slightly. Not in pain, but in discomfort. He squeezed Andrew’s hand tightly, meeting his gaze when he felt Andrew shift. He shook his head slightly, a little woozy with desire at the fact that Andrew was ready to fight for him over something so small.

Andrew was normally calm, composed. Let Maxwell take the lead. Watching Andrew get protective over him and the...baby inside of him? It made Maxwell want to reward him, but they were in the middle of a check up, the first check up, he couldn’t do that.

"Oh, looks like I’ve got it. Mr. Beckett, if you would please turn to look at the screen." She said, reaching up with her free hand to turn the screen to face them. She was beaming, her eyes warm as she did so. "Here is your first look." She said and Maxwell’s breath caught as he saw the tiny little blips on the screen.

As much as he had grown up with medicine his whole life, he wasn’t an expert on reading x-rays. However, he felt Andrew squeeze his hand as he let out a soft gasp.

"Is that-" Andrew started and his Doctor let out a warm chuckle.

"That is correct." She said. "It looks like Mr. Beckett will be eating for three." Maxwell didn’t comprehend what she was saying. Couldn’t.

"What?" Maxwell croaked and she moved the tool, getting a better angle so that everyone could see better.

"Mr. Beckett, you appear to be pregnant with twins." Maxwell blinked. Then sucked in and felt his pheromones leave his body in a rush. Andrew squeezed his hand, letting Maxwell freak out but gently comforting him, leaning in to press a warm kiss against his forehead.

"What does that mean for a male omega?" Andrew asked, his voice tender, but his question serious. Even at this moment, Andrew was protective. Careful, and Maxwell felt his breath catch. "How much stress is that going to put his body under? We just had my brother-in-law have to be on bedrest during a pregnancy with one child, so forgive me for being cautious." Andrew said.

His Doctor wasn’t upset in the slightest, smiling as she looked over the newly married couple. It was something she had never thought possible, Maxwell Beckett mated, happily mated, with children on the way.

"No doubt you know to be cautious. Of course, you’ll need to be even more cautious going forward. Mr. Beckett from the tests that I’ve already done, is probably just under 8 weeks along. It’s still early, and like you are concerned about, twins are a lot on anyone’s body, but particularly a male omegas. Mr. Beckett will have to have a lot of check ups, tests, just to make sure everything is going smoothly. Intercourse, at least penetrative, is going to be off the table for a while until our worry about the stability of the pregnancy is lessened." Andrew was nodding along to her words like he had anticipated them.

Maxwell wanted to frown.

He couldn’t have sex with Andrew? That was fucking torture. Then again, Maxwell realised, Andrew had been turning Maxwell down for sex for a while now. That damn man. Caring for him without Maxwell even being aware of it.

"Understood. Are there any foods or things that we should avoid? Anything that would help him feel better? Or vitamins or anything I can help him with that will make this easier on him? Lessen any concerns or issues?" Andrew was so serious and Maxwell just stared at his profile, smiling.

He’d chosen a good one, hadn’t he? It was wonderful that Maxwell hadn’t given up on him, had fought for him, and had told him the truth. The mark on the back of his neck throbbed as Maxwell let out a soft sigh.

"Don’t worry, I won’t let you two leave empty-handed. Thankfully, we’ve got a few brochures set up for male omega pregnancies, as well as for expecting parents of twins. I’ll give you some extra information that we’ve made for male omegas pregnant with twins and a little more for Mr. Beckett’s particular situation." His Doctor promised.

Maxwell found himself nodding along to her words while Andrew squeezed his hand.

"That would be helpful, thank you." Andrew said and she chuckled.

"You’re being very calm, Dr. Beckett. I appreciate your concern, but we’ll make sure that Mr. Beckett gets the best care. After all, it would not do us any good if the brother of the current head of the hospital had something go wrong on our watch. Plus, I’ve waited for this moment for a long, long time. I’ll make sure that he gets everything that he could need, and more. I also feel like you’ll make sure that happens." She teased, smiling. "Now, do you want some photos?" She asked and Maxwell found himself nodding without even confirming with Andrew first.

"Yes please." Maxwell said quietly. Then, in an even softer voice, "when can we tell others?" He asked and his Doctor turned to him, smiling kindly.

"I would say that you could start telling people now, or wait another month. Whatever feels right for you. Again, we can’t say for certain at this point that something couldn’t go wrong, but Dr. Beckett is going to take good care of you." She told him kindly. Maxwell swallowed, appreciating that she wasn’t just telling him he could do anything without warning him.

Maxwell swallowed, turning his gaze away from the black and white screen to the tool pressed against his stomach. He let out a shaky breath.

"What do you think, Andy?" Maxwell asked softly. He felt the soft lips against his forehead, the warm breath against his skin.

"Angel, whatever you want. If you want to tell people, you can, I would just suggest we keep it to our family for now. Despite how excited I know Maria will be once she finds out." Maxwell felt his lips curl up slightly. Yeah, he knew that too.

"I think I want to tell our parents." Maxwell told him. "And Kim and Jenny. And our siblings." Maxwell’s voice grew stronger as he spoke as he grew more confident in his words. Andrew let out a soft noise of agreement.

"I think that’s a great idea. That way we’ll have support no matter what." There it was. Andrew letting Maxwell know that even if things didn’t go as planned, he would be there. Maxwell had to close his eyes against the tears that wanted to flow.

Maxwell turned his head to the side, noticing how his Doctor turned her head away to give them some privacy as Maxwell tugged Andrew down and kissed him softly, quietly. Andrew stared at him with open love and affection as Maxwell felt his heart stutter in his chest.

He had made a child with this man. Two, in fact, and Maxwell couldn’t wait to get home and get his hands on him.

"Should we do it today?" Maxwell asked and Andrew let out a soft breath.

"Tomorrow. Today, I want to cuddle you and celebrate on our own when we get home." Maxwell thought that was a great idea. Couldn’t find a way to argue with him about it in the slightest.

"Let’s go to your favourite restaurant tomorrow then. It’s the weekend. I’ll see if I can book it." Maxwell breathed and Andrew let out a wide smile.

"You just want to eat what I like to eat." He accused, not upset in the slightest and Maxwell felt his face warm. He was right. As soon as Andrew pointed it out, Maxwell had realised that his tastes had changed to that of Andrew’s, but he wasn’t even upset about it. Andrew’s cooking was delicious before and after now, and it just meant that Andrew just had to cook for himself, but times it by two.

"Is that a bad thing?" Maxwell asked, pouting, and Andrew laughed.

"No, Angel. Not at all. I just think it’s sweet that the-the babies both like my food more." Andrew teased and Maxwell took his free hand and gently tapped it against Andrew’s arm in protest. Andrew laughed, squeezing Maxwell’s hand tightly.

"I have good taste." Maxwell protested and Andrew grinned.

"I know. You like me, don’t you?" He was too mushy for his own good, Maxwell thought, his face burning.

"I’ll get you all cleaned up here, Mr. Beckett, and then you two can take your time before meeting me in my office, alright? I’ll make sure that I have everything ready for you once you come in." She was clearly brimming with happiness as she cleaned Maxwell up, and once she left, Maxwell climbed into Andrew’s lap, holding onto the man like a lifeline.

"Two? You put two babies in me?" Maxwell muttered. "What kind of super sperm do you have?" Maxwell made the joke, and then froze. Andrew, however, laughed loudly.

"Well, you can blame my family twice for my super sperm. It’s monstruous." Andrew said with a laugh. "But, are you feeling alright? Are you okay with this?" Andrew asked and Maxwell pulled the man down, kissing him deeply, sucking on his tongue when Andrew wanted to pull away.

"Baby, I’m just shocked. I thought we would have to do this at least twice more, but you and your genetically modified sperm not only got me pregnant right away, but also gave me two babies for the price of one. It’s...It’s a little scary that I didn’t get pregnant earlier." Maxwell muttered.

Andrew puffed up his chest, grinning.

"That’s because I put in the work. My hubby comes before I do, especially during love making. Especially when we’re trying for a baby." Andrew’s eyes shifted slightly, glinting in the darkness of the room. Maxwell sucked in.

"We’re in the damn hospital. You better not make me want to jump you." Maxwell warned and Andrew laughed.

"Why not? I’m the only one who can smell you." He said proudly, and Maxwell huffed. He felt his face warm at his words before he leaned in and nipped at Andrew’s bottom lip.

"Behave for my sake, alright? I need to focus. I feel like my head is going to explode. I’m blaming the pregnancy." Maxwell muttered, annoyed.

"Of course you can blame the pregnancy. You can even blame me. I’ll take it all." Andrew promised and Maxwell felt his chest squeeze. Damn it, he wanted to devour his man.
