(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 579: Side story 9
Andrew knocked on the doorframe of Maxwell's office, pushing the door open more than the small crack he'd had open since he'd stepped into the office to work. Julies on his chest made a small gurgling, happy noise and Andrew glanced down at him and smiled before he looked up at his husband.
The room hadn't changed much in the ten years since Maxwell had set it up. The desk was an old, sturdy thing, still able to hold Maxwell's weight even after all of this time. Maybe the books had rotated and multiplied, or Maxwell's chair changed to one that would support him better, but it still felt like the warm space that Maxwell had curated when they first moved into this house.
Maxwell was sitting at his desk, typing away with a slightly furrowed brow, his appearance not much changed in the ten years that had passed. His body had shifted of course, the man had given birth to three children. Each new reminder on his body was worshipped by the man standing in the doorway, smiling as he watched his husband work.
"My love, the children are up and eating breakfast. Aren't you going to join us?" Andrew asked, watching as Maxwell's hands stilled and he looked up. Maxwell gave him a warm, open smile, showing off the laugh lines that Andrew had built, brick by brick. God, he was handsome.
"Mmm. Are you going to come over here and give me an incentive to stop working?" Maxwell asked teasingly. Andrew shook his head, his feet already moving. He bent, pressing a kiss to the man's smiling lips, unable to resist the man in the ten years since they got married.
"Is that enough of an incentive?" Andrew asked and Maxwell chuckled, wrapping a hand around his neck.
"Mm. Maybe I need a little bit more."
It was only the call of Ollie and the soft baby sounds that Julian made that forced the two men to break up. Maxwell licked his lips, looking like he wasn't fully satisfied and Andrew gave a shaky breath.
"We both have a busy day, Maxy." Andrew warned and Maxwell's eyes creased as he smiled. He got to his feet, stretching slowly and deliberately. He knew what he was doing from the little smirk on his lips before he leaned towards Andrew and kissed their little baby on the top of his head.
"We do, Daddy." Andrew felt his whole face go red.
That had been a rather alarming discovery on his part, and a recent one too. Andrew had kept it under wraps for almost 10 years since he'd figured it out, and it had all crumbled around him due to a small mistake that he had made. Maxwell had found out that Andrew liked being called Daddy.
Thankfully, he didn't call him Daddy in front of the kids, but it was still causing Andrew all kinds of heart problems.
"Maxy!" Andrew scolded quietly and Maxwell laughed, pulling Andrew down to kiss him again, his tongue quick and dangerous, making a mess of Andrew too early in the morning. Maxwell was good at that, stirring the other man into a fever pitch and then leaving him, swinging those damn, dangerous hips behind him knowing exactly what he had done.
"Mm. What are we having for breakfast today?" He asked and Andrew knew what answer he wanted to give him, but he had to be a responsible adult. They had a new baby, Andrew couldn't just abandon him to fuck his husband.
Maybe they could find a moment after their day today.
"You'll find out." Andrew said ominously, and Maxwell just laughed at him. Maxwell left the office first, giving Andrew a second to adjust himself so it wasn't so obvious that he was hard around the children. That meant that Andrew could listen to their children reacting to Maxwell joining them for breakfast.
The kids loved Maxwell. Flora was taking after her more quiet Dad, while Ollie felt a bit more of a copy and paste of Andrew. Both children were beautiful, a mixture of the two men in ways that Andrew couldn't even imagine before they were born.
Neither were as dark as Andrew, but that was to be expected. That's what normally happens when one mixes two different skin tones, but it was a surprise that both children ended up with the dark black hair from Maxwell's side. The reason being that it was straight, not a hint of a curl from either of them. They had Andrew's soulful brown eyes, the twins not being identical, but fraternal.
They didn't really look it though. Outside of personal styling choices, anyone could tell that the two were related and twins. Andrew watched as the both animatedly spoke to Maxwell, Maxwell's smile soft and caring as he listened to his children excitedly tell him about their plans for the day. What he should expect when he came for their parent teacher day, and what they were most excited for him to see.
They still went to the school that Noah's first partner worked at, and funny enough, both were in the same class with Noah's other partner's kid. Same with Amir's child, Ahana. The kids didn't seem to mind that everything was a little complicated and were just happy that they had so many cousins around them. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Andrew was glad that his positive outlook had influenced his children.
"What am I? Chopped liver?" Andrew said as he came up behind his two kids, leaning in to press teasing bites against both of their necks, tickling them at the same time. All three began to scream happily, laughing and giggling as Flora and Ollie screamed ew.
"You're gross Papa!" Ollie told him, his eyes glowing with happiness. Flora's eyes, however, were glowing in a completely different way. A way that had Andrew freezing momentarily before his mind started racing.
Holy shit.
Holy fuck.
Andrew jerked towards Maxwell, wondering if he'd caught it, but from the stricken look on his face, he'd noticed too. Both men composed themselves before either child noticed and breakfast continued. Neither man spoke to each other, focusing on getting the kids out of the house and off to their driver. They promised that they would see them soon, having to drop Julian off personally to the daycare before they could be at the school.
The drive to Maxwell's company was quiet. They could have spoken about it, but they wanted to remain silent while Julian was in the car. He might not understand it, but he would be able to feel the pheromones that wanted to tear out of Andrew.
Maxwell disappeared upstairs to speak to Ellis while Andrew saw Julian off and saw the other children at the daycare. He saw most of them in his private practise as well, most employees more comfortable going to Andrew then any other Doctor. Andrew didn't mind. He loved kids, and that was reflected in how all of the children were excited to see him, even if he gave them shots.
Andrew eventually had to go up and drag Maxwell away from work, greeting Ellis when he saw him. Ellis had matured in a good way, turning into a handsome beauty, a more dignified air about him that suited him more as a secretary instead of the air that he'd had before. He'd been invisible before, his own personal choice. Now? No one would be able to ignore him.
Andrew waved goodbye to him and the others, greeting everyone who greeted him as they left the building. Then, the two sat in the car outside for a moment, both of their curated smiles dropping from their faces.
"Isn't it…too early?" Andrew asked softly and Maxwell's hand landed on his shoulder.
"Baby, you know it's not too early. It was probably around this age that your Mom started worrying about you and putting her plan into place." Maxwell reminded him softly and Andrew gulped. It was probably earlier, but that didn't make Andrew feel better.
Andrew bent, pressing his face against the wheel of the car, his body shuddering as his emotions ran rampant. Maxwell said nothing, rubbing and patting Andrew's shoulder as Andrew came to terms with the fact that Flora, his baby girl, was going to be just like him.
Andrew shuddered.
He'd been working through this idea for a long time, something that Maxwell had suggested when the kids were around two because of an offhand comment someone had made at the Christmas party that the Becketts still hosted every year. Someone had made a comment about how it would be good if both kids turned out to manifest and how it would be good if the Beckett's became the new family that had true alphas in their line. That had been an extremely rude and triggering comment for Andrew, Noah and Nicole.
Obviously that was supposed to be the Knox family, but that wasn't even the point. It was the fact that someone had said that, that Andrew had to face the face that one, if not all of the kids could become true alphas that had really fucked with Andrew's mind.
So, this wasn't something new for Andrew to grapple with, it was just the fact that he'd had to come face to face with it so suddenly that had shaken him so much.
"Her eyes went amber." Andrew mumbled and Maxwell let out a shaky breath.
"I know."
"They've never done that before." Andrew mumbled.
"I know." Maxwell replied softly.
"What are we going to do?" Andrew asked, feeling a little hopeless.
"We support her." Maxwell told him kindly. "We don't know what Ollie or even Julian is going to turn out to be either, Baby. They could all be true alphas." Andrew felt his emotions swirl at his words. He couldn't speak for a long moment, choked by his own fear and worry for a moment. It was made better simply because Maxwell was at his side. "Baby, we have to go. Or else we're going to be late. Do you want me to drive?" Maxwell offered kindly but that was the kick Andrew needed.
He shook himself, shaking off the fear that was trying to consume him and composed himself. Shortly after, they were on the road, on the way to their school. Andrew was a lot of things, but he did his best to not let down his children. Or Maxwell.
The man watched him with concerned eyes from the passenger seat, his hand on Andrew's thigh in support. Andrew was grateful for the other man. He wasn't sure how he would make it through the day without him at his side.
