(BL) Mafia Love; He who falls the hardest loses-Chapter 108: Do I know you?
Walking into his car, Haruki could not help but wonder what went wrong with the secretary he knew. It was as though she was possessed by a ghost or an alien. She was acting weird like he had never seen her act and for her to request to be his wife?
He exhaled tiredly as he felt as though he went to the gym rather than a restaurant and as though he went to burn calories not replenish them. With a sigh, he drove out of the driveway into the gradually darkening sky of the night.
Her offer was not bad but it did not ease the feeling of suspicion he felt. She has worked with him for so long and never made such an offer so what gave her the courage to do so now?
He decided he didn’t want to think about it much as he drove to the bar he usually frequented. It was quite early but he was there mainly for the drinks and did not see the need to call any of his drinking buddies After all, it had been a while since he went out drinking with them.
He was not lacking alcoholic drinks at home nor was he lacking the opportunity to invite a bartender over to his house to mix drinks for him but he went there also so for the ambience. Those feelings of freedom came with relaxing to the music. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
He did not go to the private room he usually stays in with his friends but sat at the table right before the flustered bartender. He was young and had served Haruki drinks in the past but this was the first time the boss was so close to him and watching him mix his drinks.
It wasn’t long before the place began getting crowded with the music getting louder and the smell of alcohol, perfume and sweat filling the space despite its large size.
Either that or Haruki had been so focused on the sweetness of eating a mouthful of drink he had that he did not even notice a few hours had passed. A lady bold enough sat down next to Haruki since the two seats on either side of him were left respectfully empty and the crowd somehow stayed away from him.
She lifted her glass towards him a small cheer and took a sip before resting her elbow on the table and staring at him with a slight blush on her cheeks.
"Why do you look so familiar?" she asked him after clearing her throat lightly.
Haruki shook his head before taking another sip. For the past few hours, his mind had been cleared of almost every thought as he sat downing one drink after the other.
Haruki glanced behind him and he noticed one of his guards watching not too close but not too far to intervene in case of an emergency. It made him sigh wondering why they needed to watch so closely as though he was a child if they were going to let the lady disrupt his peaceful drink.
"But you look a lot younger in the picture I saw," the lady continued. She looked at him intently although her eyes twitched slightly in fear when she noticed his expression getting colder.
Haruki did not wish to hear what she had to say nor did not want to talk to her or leave the place where he sat down peacefully before her arrival. He glanced at the guard signally to him to take her away when the man met his gaze.
"You were even a lot prettier in the picture although it could be possible that I am making a mistake," she said.
Haruki felt his grip on the glass tighten. Either this woman had a death wish or she was threatened with death to speak to him in such a manner. Pretty? Did she just call him pretty?
He felt his hands tremble as he released his grip on the glass just before he could crush it with the amount of force he had put into that grip. He didn’t want to kill a woman with many witnesses.
He did not want to stain his hands with her filthy blood as he could only guess that someone must have made her approach him. Feigning calmness, he leaned backwards slightly and gave her a cold once-over before asking, "Who sent you?"
"Why do you think someone sent me?" she asked as she leaned closer smiling seductively as her bosom pushed forward becoming more obvious under her blouse.
"I don’t want to believe you have a death wish I might have to grant," he told her his voice even colder now.
She leaned backwards and laughed softly before tilting her head slightly as though to get a very good look at Haruki’s face before she told him, "To be killed by your hands, what a great accomplishment, I guess."
Haruki held back the urge to run his fingers through his hair as his gaze got colder and he was not certain he would be able to keep from sending her too early to the grave.
He could not help but wonder what these women were consuming recently that made them throw away basic etiquette as well as their fear.
Firstly, it was Satomi, now a strange woman he felt an even stronger urge to avoid women at this point because he could guess who he would meet next.
He glanced at the guard and he could not help but wonder what was wrong with the man who remained in his position even after receiving Haruki’s signal and the man was not looking in his direction anymore, he wondered what was wrong as he decided to go back home for the night after all, he had stayed out long enough.
He rose having nothing to say to her.
"Haruki, don’t you remember me?" she asked her smile broadening as she also rose up. "It was not a picture if I remember correctly. Rather I knew you in the past," she said pretending to think deeply. She raised her head to look into his eyes as though she were fearless or had nothing to lose.
Haruki looked down at her smaller frame. He was certain she was not one of his ex-lovers because if she were, she wouldn’t have the guts to speak to him in such a manner.
"We were classmates . . . Tsubaki, don’t you remember? I was the class monitor." Her smile got broader as Haruki’s face slowly got paler.
