[BL] Mr. Romano Contracted Husband-Chapter 69: Something In The Photo
"You think I don’t know your motive for coming here?! Whatever it is, I won’t let you get what you want! You’ll never get it!"
She pushed Arcane hard enough that he crashed into the wall behind him. He desperately wanted to fight back, his hands clenched tightly around the bag he had been carrying.
Arcane’s eyes narrowed sharply, as if he was trying to digest what the witch meant. He tried to hold back his anger, knowing he couldn’t take it out on her even though he really wanted to smash her face in.
Amidst the tension, the front door opened and Donald walked into the house. He was shocked to see the scene before him, where his wife was currently holding one of the teachers who worked at his school.
"Alina! What are you doing to him? I told you to stay away from him, he’s just teaching Stefano!"
Even so, Alina was still unhappy with his presence.
Without saying anything, Donald pulled his wife away from Arcane. His face looked so angry, as if he was fed up with his wife’s behavior. He then looked at Arcane and his gaze softened.
"Are you okay? I’m sorry. I didn’t know she would be like this again. But believe me, we really need you for Stefano’s sake," he said.
"It’s okay. I’m fine, and besides, we only talked a little. There’s nothing to worry about," Arcane replied, shrugging his shoulders.
The middle aged man nodded contentedly when he heard this, then turned back to his wife, who looked angry.
"You’re lucky he’s still willing to teach our son. Because of your attitude, Mr. Romano might not want to come here anymore and Stefano will have trouble passing the entrance exam for the school he wants to attend. Do you want to see your own son disappointed because he failed?!"
He scolded his wife in front of Arcane. He knew he shouldn’t have done this, but if he didn’t, Alina wouldn’t stop.
However, instead of feeling guilty, Alina stomped her foot on the floor.
"I don’t like him being here! Especially his face, it really makes me feel very annoyed to see him! Have you forgotten that he—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Donald told her to go to their room.
"Now I want you to go to the room and we’ll talk there."
"But— Ugh! Whatever!"
Feeling annoyed, the middle aged woman then went to their room. Donald took a handkerchief from his jacket pocket and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Even though it was so cold outside, arguing with his wife had made him sweat like that. He then looked back at Arcane, who had been watching their commotion.
"I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, but I’m sorry you had to witness that commotion. Especially with Alina acting like that, I’m sure you felt uncomfortable watching it," he said.
"It’s okay. I’m actually more worried about you continuing to fight with her because of my arrival," replied Arcane.
The principal shook his head. He said that this was a common occurrence, even since Stefano was born. His wife had always acted like that towards him and even towards their children.
He knew it was very difficult, but that’s how marriage is. He couldn’t just leave, especially not his children.
Arcane understood that. He probably didn’t understand the struggles his father was going through right now. Considering his marriage to Julian was still very new and they didn’t have children.
For a moment, he realized that it wasn’t just him who was living in difficulty, but his father too, even though the problems they faced were clearly different. And that’s why he wanted to stop trying to find out about Donald, feeling that he didn’t want to add to his father’s burden.
"Then I have to talk to Alina right away. You should go home now too, I’m worried there will be a snowstorm if it gets too late to go home," said Donald, because it was still snowing that day.
He walked to his room to see his wife, and Arcane watched his father’s back until he was out of sight.
Walking toward the front door, he accidentally stepped on something on the floor.
"Huh, what’s this?" he asked, confused.
He realized that what he had stepped on was a photo lying on the floor. He didn’t remember the photo being there before, but since only the white part was visible, Arcane decided to pick it up and see what it was.
"Could this have fallen out of his coat pocket?" he muttered as he bent down to pick up the photo.
Just as he was about to look at the photo, Donald returned to the front door, causing Arcane to pause with the photo still behind him. Seeing that the man was holding a photo, Donald immediately checked his coat pocket and realized that it was his photo.
Without letting him see what was in the photo, he immediately snatched it from him. This prevented Arcane from seeing the photo he had stepped on earlier.
"That’s my photo. I’m glad you found it. Did... did you see what was in the photo?"
The red haired man shook his head. "No. I haven’t had a chance to look at the photo yet. Is it something very valuable?"
He noticed that Donald’s eyes glanced at his face and then looked at the photo in his hand for few times. He seemed to see a resemblance between Arcane and the person in the photo.
Then Donald quickly nodded his head, saying that it was a very precious photo to him. Since Arcane felt he couldn’t ask any further questions and had to go home immediately, he left Stamford’s residence and headed for his house.
Watching him leave, Donald looked at the photo in his hand and sighed. He looked at a photo of himself and a red haired girl sitting on a park bench, right under a tree at school.
His eyes lowered, as if expressing his longing for the girl. But it had been more than 20 years since he had last seen her after graduation day.
On the other hand, Arcane was very confused by Donald’s reaction when he held the photo. It was as if the man didn’t want him to see it.
"What photo is that? And why is he looking at me as if I have something in the photo?"
