’This is... a lot of weird magic mixed in. There is no way this is natural. It seems someone deliberately tried to target Shuu’s room.’

Nero looked around the room filled with the strange magic he was sensing. He was the only one allowed to enter Shuu’s room at the moment, and the guard waited outside.

He had specifically ordered no one to enter the room because of this potent magic, and he was glad to see that they were obeying him.

"Where on earth did all this magic come from? It makes my skin crawl." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

As a demon, Nero’s tolerance for magic was quite high. So anything that was making him react like this could not be normal.

He looked around for a bit before he found what he was looking for-the reason behind this intense magic.

It was a small pouch mixed in with the other items inside the room. It was inconspicuous and wrapped in a way that made it not stand out. The formula was not even fast-acting.

The only reason it had reacted so fast was because of the artifact’s power. It must have torn the seal apart and caused the unreleased magic to start getting purified.

"Hmm, now that I have this artifact, it is time for me to go back and report to Emperor Kaiden. I am sure he is curious about what is happening here as well."

Nero formed a barrier around the small pouch he had picked up and decided to exit the room. The magic in the air was slowly beginning to calm down due to his interference.

But he regretted coming out of the room as soon as his eyes fell on the new additions in the hallway.

"What is going on here? I felt a lot of dangerous energy coming from here. Gasp Don’t tell me... did ex-consort Shuu dabble in forbidden arts?"

Lady Elysia asked in a scared voice, but her eyes looked gleeful. She continued to glance at Nero’s pocket, almost as if she knew where he had kept the pouch filled with dark magic.

Behind her were Lady Canarie and Princess Danielle. They looked shocked at the sudden turn of events as well. But unlike Lady Elysia, they did not accuse Shuu of anything. It was a smart move on their part and likely done to maintain a neutral standing.

"I am sorry, my lady. But it would be impossible for Shuu to use forbidden arts. As you know, Shuu was born without a blessing from the goddess, so he has no power. And his relic also reacted, clearing his name from the suspect list."

There was just a hint of annoyance in Lady Elysia’s eyes after hearing those words, but she quickly returned to a neutral expression.

"I... see. It is good to know that there is not an obvious lawbreaker among us. It would be a shame if the royal family were to be connected with a forbidden-power user."

Lady Elysia announced without a hint of emotion in her voice.

The more he listened to her, the more Nero felt like she was the culprit. But somehow, a part of him felt like it was not her.

"Nero, what results did you find from the investigation? I would like to hear about them before I make a public statement."

Princess Danielle asked, and Nero almost answered her out of habit before he stopped himself.

He had no personal grievances with Princess Danielle, but something about her felt... different somehow.

Nero had not been back for long, but he had heard and seen how Princess Danielle seemed to be distancing herself from Shuu and Emperor Kaiden.

She was also spending too much time with her maids and Lady Canarie, showing that she silently supported her. And that was why Nero decided not to tell her what was happening this time.

"I am afraid I cannot leak any information about this case, even to you, Princess Danielle. Emperor Kaiden asked me to report back to him first. I will be taking my leave now."

He did not tell the Princess anything, and he noticed how she had gone still.

Princess Danielle was not someone he had a problem with until now, but it was clear that she was going through something he could not understand. Nor did he want to understand her.

But if she did not pull herself together, then he would make himself her problem.

There was a light knock at Emperor Kaiden’s door, and Shuu opened it, only to see Nero standing on the other side.

He looked a little startled to see the door suddenly open, and Shuu immediately gave him space to come inside.

"Nero, did you find out anything?"

Emperor Kaiden asked as he got up from the bed. His voice sounded sleepy, but Nero had been with him long enough to know that it was all an act.

’Shuu must have been in bed with him until now, so Emperor Kaiden pretended to be asleep. He’s so sly, especially when it comes to Shuu...’

Nero just shook his head as he watched the Emperor pretend. But it was not his place to expose the emperor, so he simply coughed and brought out his report.

"I finished investigating last night and found a few things. But the most important piece of evidence I found was this-!"

He handed over the pouch that was covered by his powers. Emperor Kaiden grabbed the pouch, and as soon as Nero pulled his powers back, strong magic started to seep out.

It immediately rushed toward the kids, but Emperor Kaiden destroyed the artifact before it could react.

"I see. It seems like someone is trying to play tricks on us. Should we see who’s responsible for this mess?"

The emperor asked before he concentrated his power into an array.

Shuu had not seen the emperor using his powers much, so this sudden burst of power excited him.

The needle in the middle of the array spun and spun before it stopped... right at the Emperor.
